Notes:

This is a rewrite of a fic I wrote four years ago when I was 14. I'm hoping this turns out better :)

Chapter 1: A New Beginning

Chapter Text

Keith stared at his dagger. He couldn't believe that his most prized possession, the last gift he received from his mother, was alien.
He was alien.
What was worse, Allura had refused to speak to him since the group discovered the truth. He was her worst enemy now, Gaulra. Keith wished they'd never discovered the Blade of Marmora. He wished that no one had been there when he'd realized what his knife meant.
Suddenly a lot of things made sense. When they first found the Blue Lion, it was because of him. He'd sensed the energy, he'd known exactly where to find it. He'd known that the first Gaulra attack was going to happen before it happened.
His mother's choice to live in the middle of nowhere for years, to send him to an interstellar academy. His sister-
Violet.
Keith was ashamed, he'd forgotten his younger sister. She was still on earth, living in the house they'd shared together as if she was human.
"She couldn't know." Keith whispered, horrified, "She's Gaulra like me, and she doesn't even know!" Anger balled his hands into fists. Keith struggled to contain himself, red flashing in his vision. His parents lying to him was one thing, but Violet was a separate matter. It wasn't right.
"And I left her..." He choked, "I left her just like they left me." Tears threatened to fall, this was not the time.
"Keith?" Allura's quiet voice broke through his thoughts. "I need the Red Lion." Keith didn't reply, making a point of looking at the floor.
"We need energy crystals and the closest planet is volcanic-"
"Wouldn't Lance be better?" Keith bit out. "He's safer...being human and all. He's not a volatile monster from a genocidal race." He glanced up to see her face, wincing at her hurt expression. He noticed that there was no surprise at his anger. She expected him to be upset. She didn't trust him, and he didn't even know if she was wrong in that.
"Keith," Allura pleaded, "can we talk about this? I need your help, and we can't just avoid each other forever. Voltron still needs you, and I need your help." Keith was silent for a long moment.
He couldn't say no to her. No one could...well except Pidge-Katie.
He couldn't let her go alone either. Zarkon would easily kidnap her and everything they'd worked for would be lost.
"Fine," Keith frowned, "but we are not talking about this. Suit up." He stood left the room, brushing past her, careful not to touch her. They were not going to talk, so help him.
