Cold, dark nights at the lot were normal for Johnny. Pavement on his hands as he slept, still having to be vigilant in his sleep in case someone decided to jump him. He couldn’t shake the feeling of paranoia tonight, like something really bad was gonna happen if he stayed in the lot. Of course, that was just his brain but either way he wanted to go somewhere else. He could go to the Curtis house but frankly he just wanted to see Dallas.
Of course Johnny always knew how he felt about the the other, and he knew it wasn’t just admiration. Something far more. He pushes the feelings down normally, but sometimes he can’t help but let them slip through like beams of sunlight shooting through clouds during a rainy day.
As he stands to start walking over to bucks, he can’t help but let his mind wander to thoughts of Dallas again. His dead, blond hair that was far too long was one of the main physical attractors behind him, and Johnny loved it no doubt, but his teeth, animal like, sharp teeth. That was what Johnny loved about his appearance the most. They were filed down and very well taken care of despite this though. He has a golden cap near his molars, probably on his canine but you couldn’t tell when all of his teeth were canine shaped -(besides his front teeth). It was real pretty to Johnny, makes Dallas all the more special. And when he grinned, god, Johnny could fall in love all over again.
He has one specific memory that he dwells on a lot. Him and Dallas were in Bucks car, just going out for a drive and grabbing food. At one point Dallas was cut off by another car and he got real frustrated, he was about to start yelling but he looked at Johnny, remembered how his daddy is always hollering at him and sighed, resting his head on the steering wheel for a moment, and after a few seconds starting up to drive again.
Johnny thought it was real sweet Dallas cared about him enough to stop himself from yelling, because that’s a lot to ask from Dally.
Johnnys thoughts get cut off when he arrived at Buck’s. He knocks softly.
Buck opens the door, immediately starting to shut it as he muttered a curse and spoke “Kids ain’t allowed.” Johnny puts his foot in the door, this was an endless battle that he had to face every time he showed up. “I’m not a kid, where’s dal’?…”
Buck looks him in the eyes and sighs, opening the door. “…upstairs, sleepin’ prolly.” Johnny nods and starts to walk through the blaring lights and loud music. God he hated having to do this to get to Dallas, but it was worth it to see him. He sneaks through the people, managing to steal a 20 dollar bill from a guys pocket in the process.
He walks upstairs and knocks on Dallas’ room.
Johnny hears the floorboards creak as the taller walks towards the shut door. He opens it with a sigh and lets Johnny in, speaking with a slight tired undertone which makes him feel bad for waking, or stopping Dal’ from sleeping.
“Folks kickin’ you out again?…”
Johnny sits on the edge of the crappy bed, which was bad even for a greaser, nodding. “My old man smashed a bottle over my damn head… again.”.
Dallas sits next to him, pulling out a pack of Marlboros and offering one to johnny, who gladly accepts. His momma had taken the last of his and he hadn’t gotten around to stealing a new pack yet. Johnny puts it on his lips, checking his person for a lighter, but Dallas beats him too it and lights the cigarette for him. They were awfully close and Johnny hopes he doesn’t notice the crimson color of his cheeks. Dallas pulls away.
He takes a deep drag and sighs, enjoying the content silent that settles in the room, and also enjoying watching Dallas light his own cigarette. He was always such a pretty smoker in Johnnys eyes.
“…Sorry if I woke you.” He just above whispers, but it was pretty quiet, despite the music below them. “You didn’t, wouldn’t care either way.” Dallas lies back on the bed, taking another drag. “Yknow, I won’t care if you come here any time your old man gets too rough.”
Johnny looks over, a little shocked at that. “..really?” He asks quietly, his voice slightly hopeful. “Yeah. Where else are you gonna go when it gets too late and you don’t wanna wake no one? The lot so you can freeze your ass off?” Johnny lets a small huff of amusement, but shrugs.
“…thank you dal’.” There was another short pause before Dallas hums in a silent ‘you’re welcome’. Johnny lies back next to him, tapping the cigarette on the side of the ash tray before taking a drag.
