The Nag

Summary:

Class 1-A overheard Aizawa complaining about his wife. Naturally they have to investigate.

Notes:

I posted this on Tumblr years ago and thought I'd add it here. Its based off a request submitted to my writing blog and likely has typos. Also my work is never beta read 🥲

Request: "Hi! Could I request a scenario with Aizawa? Where he sometimes talks about his wife (the reader) and he’s constant saying stuff like. “She constant yells at me. And nagging at me.” And so all of the students and the rest of the teachers get the impression that she’s exactly like Aizawa. Ya now all mean and stuff. But actually she’s really sweet and kind, and all of the “yelling” and “nagging” was her being worried about his health. Like “Shota you go to sleep!” Thank you!"

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It wasn’t that Mina had wanted to put off all her homework until the last minute... more that other things had sounded a lot more fun than sitting down and struggling through the nightmare that was English. And, maybe if Bakugo would’ve quit being a dick and just agreed to help her, she wouldn’t have been in this situation. But here she was, papers in hand and trudging towards the teachers’ lounge with a sour expression.

Stopping in front of a giant door, Mina looked down at the papers and let out a frustrated groan. “Let’s just get this over with…” she muttered, reaching out and opening the door.

“-can be so pushy sometimes.”

Mina paused, hearing the all too familiar voice of Aizawa. Though, she was quick to notice that he sounded different than his usual tone of indifference. Along with the sense of exhaustion that always accompanied him, he seemed to be frustrated. If she hadn’t known better, it was almost as though he were venting about something. What could possibly cause the resident lord of no-fucks-given to do that though? Well… a little eavesdropping couldn’t hurt, right?

Peaking in, Mina spotted the overly tired man in question. Facing away from her, he sat wrapped snuggly in his yellow sleeping bag while Yamada and Kayama sat nearby, the three of them surrounding a coffee table littered with empty juice pouches and two empty coffee cups.

Letting out a low whistle, Kayama grinned and stared at Aizawa disbelievingly. “She must be a real ball buster to have you complaining.”

Snorting out a laugh, Yamada shook his head. “I think you might be overreacting, Eraser. ______ never struck me as the nagging, ballbuster type.”

Eyes heavy, Aizawa grunted and shook his head. “You don’t live with her.”

Letting out a sigh, Yamada rolled his eyes before spotting the slightly agape door. “Hey… I thought I closed that…”

Holding her breath, Mina quietly ducked behind the door and began scurrying away as the other teachers looked towards her hiding place. Phone already in hand, she rapidly typed as she made her escape.

Pinky: You guyswill NEVER believe what I just overheard!!

It wasn’t much later that all of Class 1-A had gathered together in the dorms common room for an emergency meeting of the utmost importance. Everyone was abuzz at the news Mina had brought them. Aizawa was living with a female counterpart who was terrifying enough to have him complaining to the other teachers. Who this woman could be was the main topic of conversation.

“Maybe he’s married?” Kirishima offered.

That suggestion raised some eyebrows. It wasn’t impossible but the very idea of Aizawa dating or engaging in any sort of interpersonal relationship seemed like a foreign and unlikely scenario to many of the students. But they also couldn’t completely rule it out either.

“He seems like the type to see relationships as a waste of time,” Sero argued.

“Yea… what kind of person would Aizawa-sensei even like enough to marry?” Kaminari asked.

“Someone just as scary as him, no doubt,” Mineta shuddered, the mental image of a feminized Aizawa staring meanly now haunting his imagination.

“Scarier even from the sound of it,” Mina murmured.

“We shouldn’t even be discussing our teacher’s personal life!” Iida motioned wildly as he reprimanded his peers.

Paying the overly eccentric class representative no mind, the others continued their discussion of who could possibly want to date their sleep deprived homeroom teacher. With each theory becoming increasingly more outlandish than the last, it soon became impossible to make out a word as they all started shouting over each other. But alas, everyone involved needed to make their ideas and opinions known. Those who weren’t actively contributing were:

A) Bakugo, Todoroki, Ojiro,Shouji, and Tokayami: who didn’t really care in the first place.

B) Midoriya: who was muttering to himself and feverishly writing in a notebook.

C) And Uraraka: who seemed to be lost in thought.

“I’ve got it!” Uraraka suddenly squealed, jumping up excitedly.

Everyone quieted down and looked towards her as she stared back with bright eyes. “What if we do a covert mission and follow Aizawa-sensei around!? Try to catch a peak at this mystery woman and settle it once and for all!”

“Absolutely not! That’s a complete invasion of privacy!” Iidas houted, appalled at the very suggestion.

“I can’t believe we’re doing this!” Iida whispered angrily, standing in an alley with Uraraka, Midoriya, Toru, Mineta, and the Bakusquad minus Bakugo.

“You can leave if you want, class rep,” Mina whispered back, an excited smile on her face as she peaked around the corner to see their homeroom teacher walking down the street. “But I’ve gotta see the woman who married Aizawa-sensei!”

“We don’t even know if he’s actually married yet!” Sero exclaimed.

“Shhh!” Uraraka hissed. “He’ll hear you!”

Everyone settled down as Toru handed her clothes to Uraraka and hurried after Aizawa. “It’s all clear!” Toru chirped happily moments later, making everyone jump in surprise as she took her clothes back and got dressed.

Quietly, they followed and soon found their selves squished and crouching behind some bushes. Peering out, they quickly spotted Aizawa as he walked up to a building and began waiting outside. A few minutes later you walked out and, spotting Aizawa, a sweet smile appeared on your face. Walking up, you placed a soft kiss on his cheek and gently brushed his hair out of his eyes. Narrowing your eyes, you sighed as you noticed the bags under his eyes. Everyone stared in shock as you stared up and began talking to him.

“N-no way!” Mineta and Kaminari both shouted as despair overtook their features. “She’s so cute!”

“Shhhh!” Mina and Uraraka both hissed.

But it was too late as Aizawa turned and stared at the bush, eyes aglow and hair floating. Fear induced paralysis overtook the students as they averted their eyes from the all too well-known glare. Maybe if they didn’t move or make a sound he might keep going on his way.

“This is bad…” Mineta whimpered, though he quickly shut up as a quick elbow to the side came from Kirishima.

Looking over, a confused expression formed on your face as you glanced from the bush to Aizawa and back to the bush again. Cautiously, you began to approach. Lives flashed before each of the kids’ eyes as Aizawa held out his arm, shook his head, and went ahead to inspect.

“Please don’t kill us!” Mineta sobbed and held his arms up in defense as Aizawa parted the bush. “It was all Uraraka’s idea!”

“Hey!” Uraraka shouted as Aizawa sighed and deactivated his quirk while everyone else glared at the crying mass of purple balls.

“Are these some of your students, Shota?” you asked, the kindness in your voice immediately putting the kids slightly at ease.

“Mm,” Aizawa grunted, nodding as he glared at the children.

“Hello, it’s nice to meet you all! I’m _______,” you beamed, offering a hand.

The group stared at you in unsure silence. Could you really be the ball busting, nag of a woman Mina had described Aizawa complaining about? You seemed so sweet and warm. So… un-Aizawa.

“I promise I don’t bite,” you joked, hoping to to lighten the mood. Though, all this comment accomplished was making both Mineta and Kaminari blush as their minds went to places that would’ve gotten them detention if Aizawa could prove anything.

“H-how do you know Aizawa-sensei?” Midoriya finally spoke up.

You looked at them and then towards Aizawa, making sure he’s okay with revealing this facet of his life to his students. Being such a private person, he wasn’t one to usually disclose this type of stuff to many people. The only pro-hero you knew and saw on a regular basis beside him was Mic. They'd they’d been friends for longer than you’d even known Aizawa and even then, he'd been reluctant to introduce the two of you.

“She’s my wife,” Aizawa said plainly after a few moments, grabbing your hand and turning to leave. “I’ll see you all in class tomorrow.”

A light laugh left you as you turned back and waved at the group of shocked students. “It was nice meeting all of you! Have a nice day!”

Looking back up, you stared at the bags under his eyes and squeezed his hand. “Will you please take the night off?”

“I already told you,” he sighed. “I’m fine, I promise.”

“I worry though.”

“I took a nap earlier.”

“That’s not what I mean,” you sighed, looking up with a pleading expression. “You can’t keep going on like this; it isn't healthy. And what if you were to get hurt?”

“I won’t.”

“But if you did…" you murmured, biting your tongue as you thought back on the recent attacks on the USJ and training camp.

You were well aware of the risks that came with your husband's profession before you'd even gotten involved with him. But you were also aware that bringing up these recent instances would only lead to an unwanted argument. Though, as proud as you were towards Aizawa dedication toward his students wellbeing and drive to protect others, you wished he would take better care of himself.

Glancing over, Aizawa stared at your unsure expression for a few moments before sighing. Pulling out his phone, he quickly typed a brief message and sent it out. Not even a minute later, his phone dinged and alerted him to a newly recieved text.

"Hizashi says he’ll cover my patrol tonight."

Eyes lighting up, a warm smile grew on your face as you nodded and hummed happily at the outcome. He may not have always appreciated it, but you really were just worried and wanted the best for him. And nothing made you feel more at ease than seeing him peacefullysleeping out on the couch when you came out later that night to let him know that dinner was ready. Sitting and cuddling beside him, you decided he could sleep a little while longer before you woke him.

Notes:

I'll say, I remember having a tough time with the idea of Aizawa calling his S/O a nag/complaining to coworkers about it. Feels ooc to me, but I think this came out cute. And as someone that always "nags" people I care about similarly, I like how this turned out 🫣
