Just the typical disclaimer that this is real person FICTION! This is not speculating on anyone’s actual relationship. This is just a fictitious story based around the personalities of our favorite goofballs.

Work Text:

Courtney sat at the Board AF table as Shayne and Amanda started the video. She loved being on Smosh Mouth, always enjoying the excuse to have a conversation with her husband and one of their closest friends. Beside her sat a stack of her old journals, as they were planning to do another journal reading podcast today. Courtney especially loved these videos, excited to learn more about a younger Amanda and Shayne.

Today, Courtney had brought in some of her journals from her first few years at Smosh. She was excited to see what she had thought about everyone back then. So, as the journal reading began, she quickly became engrossed in the conversation. “So, Courtney,” Amanda began, “Would you like to go first?” “Sure,” Courtney responded, grabbing one of her journals, “This one is from 2017. I’m excited to read these and see what I have to say about my early Smosh days.” Shayne nodded in agreement. “What if we all switched around? Amanda reads your journals, I’ll read Amanda’s, and you can read mine,” Shayne suggested. The three quickly agreed, passing around their journals and beginning to flip through the pages.

Courtney began flipping through Shayne’s journals, rolling her eyes at the seriousness of some of his entries, when Amanda gasped loudly. “Did you find something juicy?” Shayne asked. Amanda looked up at Shayne, then slowly looked towards Courtney with a large grin on her face. “I sure did, so buckle up.” Courtney giggled, wondering what Amanda could have possibly found to elicit such a reaction.

“I’m in deep trouble, and I’m not sure how to get out of it,” Amanda started, and Courntey immediately knew where this was going. When choosing her journals, she hadn’t thought about the fact that 2017 was the year she started having feelings for Shayne. She felt her cheeks warm as she groaned and covered her face. Unfortunately, Amanda continued. “I can’t deny it anymore. I have the biggest crush on Shayne.” Everyone in the room gasped, and Courtney sank lower in her chair. Shayne bursted out laughing.

“That’s so embarrassing, dude! Now everyone knows you like me!” Shayne joked, causing Courtney to give him a death glare while trying to hold back her own laughter. “Is it okay if I keep going?” Amanda asked her. Courtney straightened up while nodding to Amanda. “Yeah it’s fine. I guess the cat’s out of the bag now about my feelings.” Amanda laughed and continued. “I can’t help from staring at him every time he enters a room. When we’re in videos together, I always want to sit next to him. He’s just so sweet, smart, kind, funny, and handsome. Today, we accidentally touched hands and I felt like my heart was going to explode. I’ve got to figure this out before he realizes I like him.” With that, the entry was over and Amanda closed her journal.

Shayne leaned back in his chair laughing, a pleased smile on his face. “Wow you had it bad for me. That’s so embarrassing.” Courtney rolled her eyes and shoved his shoulder. “As if you weren’t just as down bad for me. You just didn’t write it down.” Courtney covered her face again, making Shayne and Amanda burst into laughter once again.

Once the shoot was over, everyone began packing up to leave, Smosh Mouth being their last shoot of the day. As Courtney was gathering her things at her desk, Shayne came up behind her. “Hey, there’s a rumor going around that you have a crush on me.” Courtney rolled her eyes. “Shayne, I’m no longer going to have a crush on you if you keep this up.” She turned around to look at Shayne, trying to keep her expression stern, but failing, a small smirk playing at the edge of her lips. “Well, since you have a crush on me, I thought I could take you on a date tonight. What do you think?” Courtney pretended to ponder the question, stroking her chin. “Well, I guess I don’t have any plans tonight, so I think I can squeeze you in.” Shayne dramatically wiped his forehead and blew out a breath. “Whew, I was really worried you were going to turn me down.” Courtney swatted at his arm before looping her own arm though his and walking towards the door.

“So, sir, where are you taking me?” Courtney asked once the two were settled in the car. “It’s a surprise,” Shayne said conspiratorially before pulling out of the parking lot. As they drove, the two shared anecdotes about their days, Courtney continually thinking back to the journal entry that had been read earlier. “You know,” Courtney began, “Sometimes I can’t believe how lucky I am to be married to my best friend. Who knew when we both started at Smosh that this is where we would end up.” Shayne smiled softly at her and took her hand. “I love you so much.”

Soon after, Shayne turned into a restaurant which Courtney immediately recognized, causing her to burst out laughing. “I can’t believe you’re taking me to the diner where I took you to tell you we’re ‘just friends’,” she said, tears forming in her eyes from the laughter. “Well, I thought it was a perfect way to end our day after walking down memory lane.” Courtney once again took Shayne’s hand and gave it a firm squeeze. She couldn’t agree more.
