This was either going to be the worst thing he would ever do, or something that guaranteed his rival's heart became his.
He had a flawless plan. Just some simple heart-shaped cookies coated with a healthy dose of hemlock glaze. Freshly baked with a simple hand-typed note to accompany them in a bag that looked remarkably similar to his rival’s carrier bag. All that was needed was an opportunity to swap the bags, and he'd be on the fast track to something special.
He'd managed to track his rival to a nearby park, where he was relaxing on a bench, a box of indistinct sweet treats right next to him. Perfect.
As quietly and discreetly as he could, he approached the bench, quickly swapping the box with the decoy bag. Once that was done, he bolted off, getting a good amount of distance from his rival. After coming to a stop, he decided to see just what sort of paltry pastries he had gotten away with. He opened the box, certain there was something worthwhile in there-
BAM!
But all he got was a spring loaded boxing glove to the face. He stumbled backwards in disarray, dropping the box and falling over. Stars spun around his head as he laid on the ground, completely incapacitated. He really should've known it was a ruse.
By the time he came to, he managed to make out the face of his rival staring right back at him. Great.
“Funny seeing you around here, Jackal. I was just looking to say thanks for the cookies. They were delicious,” his rival told him, that smug smile as present as ever. “Maybe go easy on the hemlock next time though. Made it taste kinda bitter.”
The black spy couldn't think of anything to say, still partially dazed from the blow to the head.
“Oh, and before I forget, I accept your confession note. It was cute. I'll send you one soon at a time we're both free so we can meet up. Call it a date.”
With that, his rival walked away, humming to himself as the black spy continued to lie there, helpless, useless, and just a little lovestruck.
