Work Text:
Mike sat next to Will on his sofa, a bowl of popcorn between them. He pulled the blanket over the both of them, making sure to tuck in the corners.
“Are you warm enough?”
Will nodded, leaning back against the sofa. Mike started the movie, quickly getting into a cozy position.
Halfway through the movie, he felt a weight on his head. Will was asleep, completely slumped over Mike's form. A sudden rush of nervousness slammed into him. His heart started beating frantically against his chest.
The movie ended, after a full hour of Mike suffering with a fluttery heart. Mike woke him up lightly and said,
“Will, it’s time for bed.”
He grasped his hand and led him upstairs. His parents were already asleep, so he had to make sure to be quiet. Their first stop was the bathroom.
Will let out a tired groan when he realized Mike was going to make him brush his teeth, but Mike wouldn’t back down.
“Shh, it’s okay, gotta make sure you don’t get cavities.”
Mike forced the toothbrush that he kept for Will into his hand. Mike brushed his teeth fast, making sure he got to his room first.
He needed to put some distance between them.
He remembered his dad’s words, haunting him whenever Will was around recently,
“What Karen! We need to stop this before that child turns our boy into a fairy!”
Mike felt panic rise in his chest.
He hoped Will wouldn't get upset.
Will yawned as he entered the room. Mike was already getting extra blankets and sheets out for him.
When Mike turned away from the closet towards his best friend, he caught him rubbing his eyes tiredly. His hair was messy sticking every direction.
Mike felt a smile cross on his face before he could stop it.
When Will saw the extra sheets in his hands, he frowned for a moment before looking up to Mike in confusion.
Will always shared Mike's bed with him.
Will reached out towards him, arms open, moving forward slowly.
He was giving Mike the time to dodge, watching his face carefully. He knew there was something wrong.
Mike felt his lips wobble as he felt himself cave in.
He put the blankets down quickly, accepting the hug Will had offered. He felt Will's fingers curl into the back of his shirt.
They crawled into Mike's bed quickly feeling exhaustion creep in. They faced each other curled completely in each other's space.
He whispered words of affection in the night, he knew Will liked listening to him talk.
He laid there listening to Will's breathing, slow and even.
Mike reached up to comb through Will's hair. Fixing any strands that had fallen out of place.
His mind wandered to how his father started to treat Will in the past month. Would he try to take Will away from him?
His eyes watered as his thoughts spiraled, only to be pulled out of it by sudden movement. Will was nudging his nose deeper into the hollow of Mike's throat.
Mike closed his eyes for a moment, feeling the most relaxed he had been since he heard those horrible words.
