Beastars: Korean Fire Noodle Challenge

Summary:

One day in Cherryton Academy, Legoshi is shopping for snacks at the commissary near the dormitory, suddenly as he is picking up some of Jack’s favorite cup noodles, he spots one that catches his attention: Buldak Fire Noodles. He decided to experiment with them and see what it was all about…little did he know that would be his most biggest regret later on.

Notes:

I was inspired by the KoreanEnglishman YouTube channel and their Fire Noodle videos, turns out they are the original people who started the challenge in 2013 and since then it has grown quite popular. Also shout out to Korean Englishman and their amazing content!!!

Chapter Text

One late afternoon in Cherryton Academy, Legoshi was walking around the main area and heading towards the commissary.

suddenly his phone rang. He turned to look at it and saw that it was his best friend, Jack calling him.

”Hello?” Legoshi answered

“Hey dude, are you almost there?” Jack asked

”I should be there in a few minutes, have you thought of something from the commissary yet?”

“Collot wants some strawberry ice cream since we ran out again, Durham and Miguno are saying to get some rice crackers and chips and the usual snacks we usually get, Voss wants a new notebook and a new drawing pad and some snacks for his classes tomorrow and I’ll just take my usual cup noodle. You getting your egg salad again?”

“Yeah. I’m gonna get it soon. I’ll see you soon. Bye.”

”Bye” Jack hung up the phone and Legoshi grabbed a small basket for him to get the food in, as he walked in, he saw a middle aged Doberman at the counter.

”Hello.” Legoshi waved to the cashier who politely waved back, a bright smile on her face.

“Hello, how may I help you today?” The female Doberman asked in a polite tone

”I was wondering if you had any egg salad sandwiches today.” Legoshi asked, wondering if his favorite snack was on the school menu

“Oh, sorry. The last person took them for his friends. We don’t have anymore.”

Legoshi was a little bummed out. His love for egg salad sandwiches started when he was a little puppy when he and his grandfather, Gosha would walk together and eat lunch at the park, it was like a family memory to him.

“Oh ok” Legoshi said a little disappointed and then walked over to the aisles to pick out some snacks, he got some rice crackers and candies for Collot, chips and some drinks for Durham and Miguno, and for Voss a little notebook, some cookies, a cup ramen, and some erasers as well as a weird gummy snack since Voss loved the taste of a red bean sweet Jack gave him two days ago.

As Legoshi moved to the aisle where the cup noodles were, Legoshi spotted something he hadn’t seen before. It was a ramen noodle cup but black and had flame prints on it with a picture of a chicken breathing fire and the words were printed in Korean. Legoshi didnt know Korean or any friends who even spoke the language but luckily it had some English words on it.

“Buldak?” Legoshi said in a confused tone, he looked at the contents of the noodle and saw that it was a popular spicy noodle soup. Usually Legoshi never ordered spicy food since it was a bit weird for him and he didn’t know what made spicy food so great but he was not someone who would back out of trying something new.

He placed at least 5 of the noodle containers for him and his friends to try and walked up to the counter where the elderly Doberman lady was reading a magazine on dog fashion and some flowers. The Doberman looked up and nodded and began to ring up his products

”Excuse me, what can you tell me about this noodle?” Legoshi pointed to the Buldak noodles that were sitting next to the Cherry flavored water and the boba fruit tea

”Oh that. That’s the famous Buldak noodles the kids talk about these days. They are really popular among kids but they are also very spicy.” The Doberman lady said “There’s this online challenge that people eat these noodles without drinking anything and people have tried them and it usually doesn’t end well.”

“Oh really? What happens to you when you eat it?” Legoshi asked, curiously and a little hint of nervousness flowed in his tone of voice.

”Well, my nephew tried it with his friends and it said it was so hot that he and his friends couldn’t feel anything in his mouth and they felt like their mouths were on fire. I don’t risk anything like that, my mouth just burns when I think about it so I recommend you be careful when trying these noodles.”

“Ok. I will.” Legoshi pays for the snacks and waves the lady goodbye, as he is walking back to the dorm, he takes a look at the noodles and gulps, thinking about what the lady said earlier.

“Oh. The guys sure are gonna be using the bathroom a lot after this.” He thinks out loud.
