Summary
The world has ended and the Gods have taken over. Once every ten years, the gods host the Cycle, a performance competition where selected human pets must sing for their survival.
Anaxa has loved Phainon since they were children. When he was eight, Phainon had given Anaxa the tiniest gift: a flower crown that fell apart with the slightest touch. Phainon thought of it only as a passing kindness, but to Anaxa, it had been his salvation in this cruel world.
On the day of the competition, Anaxa makes the ultimate sacrifice to save Phainon. Phainon, devastated as he realizes his own feelings too late, declares his victor’s wish to the gods: “Let me see him again.”
