Work Text:

Many people have asked Two, "Why do you love Gaty so much?". Not as an insult to Gaty herself, but almost as a test of Two's intentions.

Two never liked that question though. It wasn't so simple. In all honesty, even if Two tried to compile a list. There would be an infinite number of things they'd be forgetting. But the main reason is a lot simpler than you might expect.

Gaty had been…a friend.

It seemed that friends were rare for someone like Two. For years Two had tried to find new ones after all that had happened with One. But it seemed like not many people were itching to gain a new companion.

Even at the Equation Playground, they were seen as kind of a drifter. Innocent. Then they had been burdened with this abundance of power, and life became lonely.

Changing their own personality didn't get them anywhere. And they had visited so many different planets that they all sort of blurred together, the only thing Two getting from said visits being rejection after rejection.

Four and X didn't remember them. So what was the point anyway?

Two continued looking, they did. And with how long they had been doing this for, it was inevitable that they would see the other algebraliens. But when they did, Two just left. Leaving some of their former friends feeling a little confused as to why Two had just shown up at their new home, only to leave as soon as they saw them.

It was a lonely life. Two missed that old feeling of home.

They hadn't felt it in nearly two decades.

So one day when they got the idea to go back to Four and X's new planet and take more drastic measures, they didn't hesitate.

A few months later, Two started hosting TPOT.

Sure, Four wasn't all too happy with them for "stealing their show" but hey, they had gotten what they wanted. They didn't have to change who they were. Two had something to do. People to talk to. Even friends.

Even though some of said friends weren't always the nicest to them, they had that community they had sought for so long. And it felt nice.

Then, Gaty had come along. She was friendly, and during their first conversation, she genuinely wanted to tak to Two instead of doing the challenge with her teammates.

Now, it wasn't that Two had never had a close friendship with someone, it was just that their relationship with Gaty was different, and had been different from the start.

Eight and Gaty were fairly similar in the fact that they were both nonchalant and mature.

Eight had kept them company and appreciated how carefree they were. Gaty did the same, but Two felt a level of comfort with her that they hadn't really ever felt before.

Two was one to run away from negativity. Eight's annoyed? Whatever. One wants to hang out? No thanks! Off they go! Three was just shattered then recovered with a broken value? Run. Away.

But with Gaty? It felt natural to talk about their problems. About their doubts. About the sense of belonging they had searched for for so long. The only thing they hadn't gone into detail about with Gaty was the incident with One. All she knew was that an incident had lead to Two's acquisition of infinite power and them being forced out of their home.

Gaty listened. Gaty sympathized. Gaty offered advice. It was refreshing. One friend had changed everything. She knew Two better than anyone else, and as their relationship had evolved from friends to lovers, that fact didn't change.

Two had seen love take many different forms during their time hosting TPOT. From Coiny and Pin to Four and X, they had watched many people fall in love.

And Two was sure that this was it.

This was love.

After such a long period of loneliness, Two found love and companionship.

Now, they had just helped Four bake a cake for X. The occasion? Something called Valentine's Day.

Well…Two didn't know what they could possibly gift Gaty that could show the level of admiration they had for her, but they could always show it how they expressed all of their feelings to Gaty, through talking, of course!

"So, what did you want to talk about, Two?" They had invited her over to their favorite couch. After all, this is where they always spoke.

Gaty was swinging her legs cheerfully, looking at Two with that familiar sparkle in her eye, the hands of her prosthetic arms resting close enough to Two's own natural ones that their stomach fluttered.

"Well, you're from Earth, right?"

Gaty nodded. "Yep. Sure am."

"Do you celebrate Valentine's Day?"

Gaty smiled, a light blush coating her cheeks, already knowing where this was going.

"Well, I only learned about it the other day but, I wanted to tell you why I love you so much." Two met Gaty's expecting eyes and took a deep breath.

"Now if I told you every reason I loved you we'd be here all day, I fear," Gaty laughed. That was a good sign. "but I'll try to simplify it.

"Ever since I had to leave my first home, I struggled to find a new community. You know this. And when I am reminded of my…past. The loneliness, the hopelessness, all of it. I remember that it all brought me here. Every decision, every event, it was weaving an invisible string that pulled me to you. What I would do without said string, I'm not sure.

"I love how you stay calm when chaos surrounds you. I love how you make me feel heard. I love that look of satisfaction when your team wins a challenge. But I think it's most important to say that I love you not for the individual things that you are, but for the person that those things create. And that person is Gaty. I love Gaty. I love you."

Gaty was practically a blushing mess at this point. It was rare for Two to manage to get her like this, so they worried for a moment that something was wrong. Then, Gaty grabbed their face and pulled Two into a kiss. They leaned into it, placing a hand on Gaty's neck.

She finally pulled away, stroking Two's cheek. "I love you too." Gaty leaned her forehead against Two's and they mirrored the action.

The couple wasn't aware of it, but not too far away, hiding behind the bushes, One watched them and their fluffy shenanigans, questioning her life choices greatly.
