"Sapphy, this isn't a good idea."

Candy Apple Cookie was sitting on Black Sapphire Cookie's bed, watching him pack sweets and neccessities into his bag. He just rolled his eyes.

He'd done this a million times before. Sneaking out to meet up with his boyfriend, Silverbell Cookie, was definitely a risk. But it was a risk he'd taken so many times before that it barely felt dangerous anymore.

Although honesty wasn't exactly Sapphire's field of expertise, in truth, he had always felt that it was a tremendous risk to his and to Silverbell's safety to let Candy Apple know. After all, she was always kissing up to Master Shadow Milk Cookie in hopes of winning his seemingly unreachable favor.

Silverbell and Black Sapphire Cookie had been dating in secret for a few months by the time Silverbell agreed to let Sapphire tell Candy about their relationship. They had plenty of experience by then with clandestine dates and nearly untraceable letters to each other.

Telling Candy Apple Cookie could ruin everything.

But telling her had gone over better than expected. Of course, she'd told him that she thought it was foolish and idiotic to even consider going behing Master's back with something like this, but she had told him that she didn't want anything to happen to Sapphire, so she'd keep her mouth shut.

And Black Sapphire Cookie felt extraordinarily grateful for that fact.

But now, preparing for a midnight tryst with Silverbell Cookie, Candy Apple was…worried. It was a different side of Candy Apple Cookie that he didn't get to see very often. It felt very raw, in a sense. Through all of the lies that she told, Candy had those feelings deep inside of her. And they were revealing themselves now to warn Black Sapphire about something he didn't feel like he had to be warned about anymore.

"Candy Apple Cookie, it's fine. What makes tonight any different?" Sapphire fussed with his hair.

She crossed her arms. "I dunno. Just a feeling I guess."

Black Sapphire rolled his eyes and threw the bag over his shoulder. "A feeling? Well I might just cancel my plans right this instant." He straightened his jacket in the mirror, even though he knew Silverbell probably wouldn't care even if he showed up in pajamas.

Candy Apple sighed, her posture drooping slightly in defeat. "Fine. I guess there isn't anything I can do to stop you anyway. So what does it matter?" She grumbled something to the effect of "since when was I the rational one?" before all but stomping out of Black Sapphire's room.

Black Sapphire didn't watch her leave. He mussed with his hair one more time before being satisfied.

He grabbed his microphone, which had been leaning against the desk while he was getting ready. Sapphire closed his eyes in concentration. This wasn't a trick Master Shadow Milk had taught him. He'd learned it on his own, not wanting to have to travel all the way through the mountains to Faeriewood every time he met up with Silverbell Cookie.

Black Sapphire raised his microphone and pictured the lake they always met at. He muttered a few words under his breath and drew a door large enough for him to get through in the air. Every time Sapphire did this he worried that it wouldn't work. And part of him hoped it wouldn't work so he could remain loyal to his master.

But Black Sapphire Cookie was in too deep with Silverbell to suddenly return to being at Shadow Milk Cookie's side 24/7. Sapphire didn't have much—or any at all really—experience with love, but this was surely it. No doubt about it.

Sapphire stepped through the portal to find Silverbell already waiting for him, sitting at the lake's shore barefoot with his feet in the water. Over the months they'd been meeting up, Sapphire had learned to note the little things. Silverbell Cookie wasn't exactly the most open person emotionally, so sometimes those seemingly nonexistent patterns were the only tell that something was up with him.

So what does feet in the water mean? That he needed a distraction. It must've been a long day, or maybe he was nervous.

"Bell."

Silverbell turned and offered Sapphire a tired smile. "You made it."

Sapphire smiled back. "How are you?"

He shrugged. "Fine. Better now that you're here."

Black Sapphire Cookie approached Silverbell and took a seat next to him, leaving sufficient space should Bell decide pull away. He didn't. Instead Silverbell closed the space, scooting over so his leg brushed Black Sapphire's.

Sapphire smiled. Every time he met up with Silverbell he worried that the faerie knight would realize that nothing was worth the risk of dating a follower of the Beast of Deceit. His fears never came true, though. Each time, Silverbell Cookie welcomed him back with love.

Black Sapphire slipped his bag off of his shoulder and pulled out the container holding the sweets Candy Apple had helped him bake earlier that day.

Silverbell smiled. "What do you have for me today?"

He had always tried to make a habit of bringing Silverbell Cookie some kind of pastry or baked good. Something sweet that he could remember Sapphire by and enjoy when they were apart.

For today's treat, Black Sapphire had spent this morning and the night before baking pain au chocolat, chocolate croissants, from scratch. They were a perfect flaky golden brown, lightly dusted with powdered sugar. As soon as they had come out of the oven, Black Sapphire had placed a time slowing spell on them, so the pastry was still warm.

Silverbell, while typically a serious person, practically melted at the combination of pastries and Black Sapphire Cookie. He chose one and took a bite, unable to stop a satisfied smile from creeping onto his face.

"I assume that you like it?" Black Sapphire chose one and took a bite himself, having the same reaction.

Silverbell shrugged. "I like everything you make."

"Even those muffins?"

He laughed. "Maybe not those."

They sat in silence for a while. Silverbell finished his croissant and leaned forward, swirling a finger in the water. It was cute. It was lovely. And peaceful moments like this reminded him of why he was so in love with Silverbell. That quiet strength that just radiated from every pore.

And Silverbell didn't even know it.

Black Sapphire Cookie wasn't so good at honesty. It wasn't exactly in his nature as a loyal follower of Shadow Milk Cookie, the Beast of Deceit himself.

But for Silverbell Cookie? Maybe he could try.

"Bell?"

He looked over.

"I love you."

Bell's face jumped in surprise, then softened, a light blush painting his cheeks. He leaned into Black Sapphire, resting his head on his shoulder.

Sapphire held him close. Silverbell didn't say anything for a while, and he started to worry that the faerie knight wouldn't say it back then, barely audible:

"I love you too."

And for a moment, everything was as it should be in their world.

But far away in the Spire of Deceit, a nonplussed Shadow Milk Cookie watched the scene play out from the comfort of his study.

He turned and left. Time to take action.
