Javier was bad at love. Or maybe just bad at staying in it. Either way, he'd never made a relationship last.
Though perhaps the fault wasn't his. Perhaps it lay with the one who was never truly his to lose.
Their years as rinkmates had been a whirlwind, there and then gone, like breath on cold ice. The Cricket Club burned and froze as they swung between fire and ice themselves. Yuzuru was beautiful and kind. Until he wasn't. Until something shuttered behind his eyes and Javier could only watch him recede into something ethereal, unreachable.
The tango built. Yuzuru gathered speed for a jump…
And fell.
It happened so fast Javier barely registered it. One moment Yuzuru was in the air, rotating, perfect form, and the next he was down, hard, his body slamming into the ice with a crack that echoed through the empty arena.
Yuzuru didn't move.
Javier did.He pushed through the door, stepped onto the ice…
Yuzuru looked up.Their eyes met.
“Javier.” His voice was steady, as if he hadn't just been splayed on the ice like a broken doll. “You came.”
