Work Text:

Avoidance

It started with Steve running into the back and whisper-yelling at Robin.

Shit! Rob, you gotta take this one! It’s-” “Is it another random ass ex you have? You can’t make me serve the whole female population of Hawkins, Steve.” Robin interjects because ever since she started Steve has been trying to pawn off half of Hawkins onto her because he’s dated them. It’s not like she doesn’t believe it, she’s seen him with almost a new girl every week ever since she moved here in middle school, Nancy was the only one that was actually worth being called an ex since they were together for a weirdly long amount of time. Nancy always struck her as some prissy rich kid which Robin supposed Steve was as well but Nancy seemed less… dumb? Probably rude to think about her co-worker but he’s kind of a whore so…

No! It’s-!” Steve starts to finish his griping when he gets interrupted by a tentative tap of the small bell on the front counter. That bell was the bane of Robin’s whole work experience. Then she hears the voice…

Excuse me? …Steve? I saw you run...” Nancy’s voice, which is no longer as mousy as Robin remembered, was speaking from behind the wall. The comment on Steve running away was enough to make Robin snort slightly. Guess it makes sense why Steve freaked his shit seeing her, they seemed like they had a pretty messy breakup from what Robin heard, which wasn’t much considering she wasn’t really included in the rumor mill but regardless.

“Fine, I’ll help you out dingus.” Robin concedes with a smirk as she leaves the backroom and is met with the sight of a new Nancy Wheeler, her hair is short and curled and she looks pretty in her business attire. Steve was keeping her slightly up to date because he was practically stalking Nancy via her brother coming into the shop and Steve letting them use the back as a shortcut to the movies in exchange for Nancy info. She’s working as an intern at the newspapers with her current boyfriend, John-something, based on the insider info Steve got. She really is even more beautiful up close…

“Hello, sorry for the wait! Welcome to Scoops Ahoy, what can I scoop ya?” Robin greets with a grin as she slides up to the counter in the ridiculous uniform, her hat was forgotten in the backroom since she was SUPPOSED to be taking her break before this. Robin never really knew Nancy and only ever noticed her from afar, she seemed like a stuck-up priss in Robin’s eyes.

“I’ll just get a small cup of strawberry… Thanks.” Nancy said in an aloof manner while she crossed her arms and seemed like she was checking Robin out, not in a romantic way obviously because that girl seems as straight as an arrow, she must be if she dated Steve. She’s probably taking in the weird uniform. Robin just grins as she grabs the small cup and scoops up a generous amount of strawberry ice cream. She didn’t mind the standoffishness since maybe she thinks her and Steve are “involved” or something, ridiculous but obviously Nancy doesn’t know that Robin could never like Steve like that. Strawberry was an interesting flavor choice, the bin was practically full since pretty much nobody picked it over the other classics or their weekly flavors… She seemed like a strawberry person though. Though maybe it’s just the pink sweater she’s wearing…

“That’ll be $1.13. Thanks for joining us on this journey of flavor.” Robin said their annoying ass slogan mockingly because it was idiotic to have someone already in a very degrading sailor outfit say dumb shit like that. Nancy reaches into her purse that probably cost as much as Robin’s paycheck and pulls out a small midnight blue coin purse before placing out the exact correct amount of change as Robin sticks a plastic spoon into the strawberry mound. Of course Nancy Wheeler would make sure to not have any change-

“Also here’s a small tip since you took my order after your ‘co-worker’ ran off to the back.” Nancy said in a teasing tone, probably knowing that Steve would be in the back eavesdropping. Nancy Wheeler has a nice smile, her eyes crinkle up at the edges and she actually has dimples… Robin realized she had forgotten to notice the couple dollars that were placed on the counter for her as a tip supposedly.

“Uh- I- Uhm- Y-Yeah! Thanks! C-Come again!” Robin stumbles over her words as she yells after Nancy had already walked away from the counter and was halfway out of the shop. Robin isn’t sure but she thinks she hears a soft giggle from her as the curly haired woman leaves finally so Robin can take the breath she didn’t realize she was holding. She’s left for a second feeling shocked out of her usually fidgety nature and is just stood there staring at the space Nancy’s crinkled smile once occupied.

“Thanks, Rob. Go back to your break, sorry for tearing you away from your… super interesting looking book.” Steve was speaking but Robin just stays frigid before she snaps out of it and fumbles out some words that might form something relating to a cohesive sentence as she runs to the back. Maybe there was more to ‘The’ Nancy Wheeler…

What the fuck did Nancy see in Steve.

A Planned Pursuit

Nancy can’t deny that she was a bit ticked off when Steve ignored her (like a child) by pushing out his new co-worker when Nancy finally came to visit the town's famous ice cream shop. But the girl named “Robin” (based on the nametag) was a pretty enjoyable surprise, she did get oddly shaken up at the end of their interaction though…

Not important! Nancy has been mulling over their interaction for the past week and has been jumping between not going back since Steve would just ignore her and she didn’t really know much about Robin but the ice cream was pretty okay, even though she didn’t particularly like ice cream in the first place. Nancy decided since Mike and his friends went there all the time she had an excuse to be there so she just drove Mike to the mall on the way to Will’s house since it was so conveniently on the way, they could get ice cream since they were ‘already there’.

As they walk in Steve is sat on the window area leading to the backroom and Robin is leaned back against the counter back facing the entrance and joking around in that carefree way she seemed to hold. Steve looked like a deer in headlights when he saw her which Nancy thought was unwarranted considering she wasn’t being a bitch about their breakup or anything… She did hear that he was grasping at straws for a rebound which she honestly did find a bit funny! He wasn’t exactly "boyfriend of the year” when they were together so to hear he wasn’t doing great in the dating scene wasn’t a horrible thing… Nancy can’t help but wonder if Steve and Robin were dating. They seemed close and Steve didn’t have many female friends since she last talked to him so they definitely could… Robin doesn’t seem like the type to date Steve though. If she did it would kind of make Nancy disappointed, she’s not sure why because it’s not like she would want Steve… Nevertheless, Steve jumps into the backroom and Robin glances back to see her and Mike which causes her to fully face them and dawn on that playful grin, she had on that ridiculous yet simultaneously very adorable hat this time.

“Welcome to Scoops Ahoy! Let’s sail the seas together.” Robin says the slogans in that raspy voice of hers and struggles like it’s physically impossible for her to not mock them, the idea alone almost makes Nancy laugh again. Mike is being a little prick so she slaps him on the back of the head and tells him to shut up which leads to Mike mocking her and sticking out his tongue like a toddler and Nancy refusing to indulge him.

“Sorry about my brother, he’s a prick. I’ll have a small strawberry in a cup again please.” Nancy tells Robin pleasantly as she leans her hands on the counter and watches when Robin’s face twists from her casual playful grin to disbelief when Mike gets a disgusting combination of flavors that are a disgrace to the existence of ice cream. Robin just gives a disapproving look and sighs before scooping their ice cream. Nancy’s thoughts stick to the question of if ice cream scooping would make someone’s arms more muscular… She’s not sure why they stick to that but she’s actively attempting to ignore it.

“That’ll be $1.13 for the cup and $2.47 for the abomination of a cone.” Robin jokes with a smile as she glances to Nancy as if for confirmation she thought it was funny. Nancy smiles at her again, she seems to be the only one getting her to smile at the moment with her shitty internship and Johnthan acting as if being treated like dirt just because she’s a woman isn’t a problem. Then Mike looks at her as if he didn’t have his own money.

“I’m already driving you, you have your own allowance! Use it, asshole!” Nancy hisses with annoyance at her brother who scowls and digs into his pockets for change, he needs to get a job soon because at the moment he is a literal leech of money. Nancy is knocked out of her hatred of her brother when she hears Robin laugh lightly while setting down a cup and holding out a cone of disgusting ice cream. She’s got a cute genuine smile. Mike slams down his change with a glare at Nancy as he grabs the cone from Robin’s hand before walking off. Nancy mutters ‘little shit’ under her breath as she digs in her purse for her coin pouch.

“You’re really different than I thought you’d be, Wheeler.” Robin informs her with a gentleness that provides closure that it’s meant as a compliment. Nancy places down what she’s owed plus a bit extra since she did think she was starting to enjoy talking to Robin. As Nancy takes a spoonful of her strawberry ice cream into her mouth, lingering a bit longer than fully necessary, Robin makes another comment.

“Do you always get the same thing? You should become a bit more adventurous, Wheeler.” Robin gives unprompted advice with a teasing grin as she collects the money and puts all of it apart from the tip into the register. As she walks away Nancy just gives one of those classic knowing grins that she seemed to always pull out at the right moment to just make someone second guess themself. “Have a good day, Robin.” She says sweetly to finish off the conversation while she walks.

“Y- Yeah! Have a good one! See you next time, Wheelers!” Robin stammered again while Nancy left, she had the urge to glance back just to see what Robin’s reaction was but she knew better and Mike was the most impatient person ever especially when it pertained to Will so she knew he’d be annoying about it.

Ice cream is slowly becoming more appealing…

An Unexpected Appearance

Robin honestly didn’t expect it when both Wheelers came in during her shift last Sunday but Nancy was even more interesting that time around, she was cursing more around her brother and she seemed more comfortable which was amazing news in Robin’s mind. Nancy hadn’t come in a few weeks which made Robin a bit depressed since her job kind of sucked apart from her regulars that she enjoyed. Erica was a pain in the ass every other day so that was always something to look forward to.

Robin has resorted to Steve measures and started asking mini-Wheeler about Nancy since she obviously didn’t have Nancy’s number so she was kinda fucked. Steve didn’t seem to catch onto Robin’s very annoying crush that was forming on little miss perfect but he was clueless and pretty idiotic most of the time so it was unsurprising, he didn’t know she was gay of course so that also made sense why his mind didn’t really go there…

She still wished she had someone to talk to about this! Last crush she had was Tammy Tompson which was a shit show and Steve would definitely be the wrong person for that conversation since he’s kinda the reason she has been damned to forever like girls that are for sure straight. Nancy also has a boyfriend… This was totally screwed up! Why can’t she be happy?! There’s literally no other gay people in Hawkins! It sucks! Robin saw that Will kid once and she sensed a bit of something from him in how he looked at Mike and how Mike acted like anyone who touched Will was to be publicly hung but she obviously couldn’t just go up to the kid and ask, ‘Hey, are you closeted and super in love with your best friend? Because I can tell!’ That’d probably be a bit on the nose.

The next time someone she knew from school came in it was Nancy’s boyfriend, who she’s been corrected is named “Jonathan Byers”. Steve pawned this one off on Robin as well for a similar reason and because they haven’t had a productive conversation with each-other ever since Nancy got with the guy she told Steve to not worry about. She understood this was screwed up and she was a bit curious about Jonathan as well, she didn’t know him much either and last time she ever noticed him was when his brother went mysteriously missing- also how the hell did that kid show up again? Seriously. There was a body and all so how the fuck did his brother just ‘show up’ again and nobody questioned it? Nevermind.

Robin stepped out from the back and was met with a similar looking yet more aged Byers, his bangs look even shorter and more bowl-like than the last time she saw him and he almost (somehow) looks more tired than before as well- which is hard to believe since the last time was when his brother was supposed dead, and he’s a lot taller now, like, skinny lightpole tall.

“Hey there! Welcome to Scoops Ahoy and hop aboard this ship of flavor with me.” These one-liners are horrible, they somehow get worse and worse every time she has to say one. Byers looks at the options and seems to be in a very indecisive way- not that she had room to talk, glass houses and whatnot. He sits there silent for a bit just reading over the menu when he seems to finally make a decision.

“A small cup of coffee flavor for me and a small cup of strawberry please.” He requests in a very polite manner while he’s already reaching to get his money ready. Robin scoops up the ice cream and makes the connection that the strawberry one is most likely for Nance.

Damn.

“That’ll be $2.62 please!” Robin gives her award winning customer service smile as she places down the pair of ice cream. “Damnit ‘pair’, fuck me.” Robin thinks to herself and fights back a wince at the verbiage in her own mind. Jon gives Robin a set of three bills which means she has to count change… Ugh.

She gave him back the 38 cents with a smile that was entirely fake since she was now feeling like dog shit but old Byers didn’t do anything to her apart from being with “Nancy’s-fucking-perfect-Wheeler”. Not his fault Nancy is entirely too straight to even consider Robin.

Jonathan gives a hesitant and awkward smile as he picks up the cups, like he’s unsure if that’s the right thing to do in the scenario. He turns away and walks out of the shop with coffee and strawberry flavored ice creams… They are a horrible flavor combination. Maybe it’s a sign! Or maybe Robin is just looking for anything to get validation that her crush is not entirely pointless…

Steve finally creeps back out from the backroom and he is met with the sight of Robin hunched over the counter with her elbows holding her up and her hands sliding down her face before she groans loudly in emotional pain.

Liking straight girls sucks hard.

An Invitation

Nancy had come to Scoops Ahoy a few more times sporadically over the next month after she’d found out Jonathan went there to get the two of them ice cream. Steve probably ran into the back again since he couldn’t confront his problems even if he was held at gunpoint, it was kind of a big point of contingency in their old relationship. But Jonathan was probably served by Robin and Nancy had come to the realization that going to Scoops and talking to Robin was like a refugee from her horrible workplace and Jonathan who sometimes got on her nerves just a bit. It was nice to come and get her regular scoop of strawberry with Robin’s arrogant yet playful smile greeting her and Steve had slowly started to stop hiding fully in the backroom, he was still not serving her but he was at least staying in the front if he was already there when she walked in. That was a win in some way.

Nancy was walking into Scoops Ahoy on her day off because she wanted an excuse to be alone for the day and she just told Jonathan that she needed to go to the mall to shop since it felt rude to say she needed a break from… him for a little while. Robin was in the back this time when she walked in but Steve just knocked on the wooden shutters that separated the backroom and front a couple times probably to alert Robin, she peaks out from behind the shutters hesitantly before her eyes settled on Nancy and maybe it was just her small ego talking but Robin’s face lit up at the sight of Nancy from what she could tell. It was really sweet…

Steve had stepped to the side by now and Robin opened the shutters all the way before she hoisted herself up and over the small counter and entered the front counter of the store. Nancy’s suspicions were right, scooping ice cream does seem like it’s pretty good for the arms… Shit. Staring.

“Welcome to scoops! Would you like your usual, madam?” Robin greets in a cheeky manner with that teasing smirk that was so often on her face that Nancy wondered if it was permanent. Nancy gives a soft smile as she nods, she is a creature of habit in her food preferences which she knew not many people preferred strawberry over something like vanilla or chocolate but she’s always loved strawberry flavored things, even her chapstick is strawberry flavored.

“So, what are you up to, Nance?” Robin asks conversationally while she scoops up her usual flavor with a gentle smile. Nancy has actually stopped wincing internally like when Robin had started calling her that, it always reminded Nancy of Steve or Barb when someone called her that but she’s started to enjoy the nickname again from the cute ice cream scooper.

“Not much. I’m off today-” “Oh! You should totally come hangout with me! I was just about to take my lunch break when this dingus-” Robin interrupted while pointing to Steve who seemed like he was trying to not be perceived. “Called me up for some pretty girl that he couldn’t handle on his own.” Robin explains with an almost… flirtatious grin? The comment was already flirtatious but the look on Robin’s face looked like when someone was embarrassed by the fact they attempted to flirt. Nancy herself didn’t do that, she didn’t exactly ‘flirt’ with dudes, but she had seen plenty of guys that were trying to flirt with her have made that face. Could Robin be…

“Nance?” Robin interjects her thoughts curiously because apparently Nancy was totally zoning out and forgot to answer Robin’s invitation. Nancy feels her face flush a bit with embarrassment, she never zoned out like that!

“Uh- Yeah! That sounds fun! We could check out some shops I was planning on going to anyway?” Nancy questioned curiously as she scrambles to pull her money from her purse, she just wanted an excuse to not look into Robin’s eyes after stammering like that. Nancy did actually plan on going shopping since Jonathan was unhelpful as a buddy since he obviously had an aversion to pink which happened to be her favorite color so it was not a great match. Robin seemed back at ease with Nancy stumbling over her words a bit as she placed down the cup of strawberry ice cream onto the glass counter with a soft tap.

“Cool. I’ll have to grab some of my stuff but you know how much your ice cream costs!” Robin seems genuinely excited to go shopping with Nancy, she wouldn’t have anticipated that since Robin always struck her as one of those girls who act like they’re too good to get excited to shop. Nancy places down the usual balance and Robin doesn’t even count it, she’s come in often enough that obviously she’s not gonna underpay, she always adds a little extra for Robin anyway.

“Wanna come in the back while I grab my stuff?” Robin asks as she walks away from the register and toward the door leading into the backroom which Nancy is almost fully sure she’s not allowed to be back there since she’s a customer but if Robin invited her it should be fine… She thinks. “You.” Pointing at Steve. “Man the register while I go on my shopping date.” Robin concludes to Steve who just sighs and avoids eye contact with Nancy as she walks into the back with Robin.

The backroom was barely lit, there was a small dim light on the ceiling but it was shockingly horrible for such a new building. The backroom was a stark contrast to the bright and colorful exterior of the parlor with more grey and concrete, it was also somehow colder back there… Nancy notices what looks like a scoreboard on a whiteboard on the wall that had considerably more ticks to one side than the other.

“That’s where I keep tally of when Steve strikes out with the female customers, as you can see, he’s shit at it.” Robin jokes with that toothy grin while pointing to the board Nancy was already looking at. Damn, Steve fumbled flirting with a girl that many times? Freshman year her would never believe it. Nancy laughs softly at the thought of Steve “the hair” Harrington being that bad with the ladies, Robin seems to share that sentiment.

Robin grabbed a small leather wallet that looks old like something inherited and makes a motion for them to leave. Nancy smiles softly and follows her out of the backroom, as they leave she sees a big group of kids that- wait. That was Lucas’ sister! She seemed like she was giving Steve a hard time but from the look on Robin’s face this was a regular occurrence, customer service seems like it sucks.

“So… Why strawberry? It’s not exactly the most beloved flavor so why do you only ever get it?” Robin had asked when they were off the premises of Scoops Ahoy and were now well into the mall walking while Nancy ate her ice cream. Nancy mulled over it in her mind, she didn’t really know why, when she was a kid she loved the color pink more than anything and then she tried strawberry ice cream which was pink and one of her favorite flavors of food and it was match-made in heaven.

“I guess I liked pink and I liked strawberry so when I saw pink ice cream and it tasted like that I just… stuck with it?” Nancy shrugs while they enter the shop she was planning on going to in the first place, she wanted to get a new pair of pants and maybe a new light jacket. Robin glanced around curiously like a kid at a zoo, she must’ve never been here before which surprised Nancy because Robin worked in this mall all summer so she thought Robin would know most of the shops here by now. Nancy settles on the jeans aisle and starts sifting through her size, Robin walks off for a bit to probably look around and when she comes back she’s got a look of shock on her face.

Holy shit, Nance! This stuff costs a small fortune!” Robin was attempting to whisper which was appreciated but it wasn’t working very well, she seemed appalled by the prices which Nancy could agree were a bit much but she always just went for stuff that had sales like the jeans today. Nancy didn’t mean to but she laughs pretty hard, it was just so adorable how Robin seemed genuinely distraught at the new information.

“Sorry- Sorry! You don’t have to get anything, I just wanted some input!” Nancy tries to stifle her laughter but it’s not succeeding, she honestly didn’t expect Robin to get anything anyway but she can’t lie that she was a tad curious what Robin’s style was like since she’s never really seen her outside of that silly uniform. Nancy pats Robin’s shoulder as if soothing a child which makes Robin join in her laughter, absurdity aside. Nancy was realizing that this was such an odd scenario, she’d probably never talked to Robin back in freshman year but now they were shopping and laughing together… She never really noticed Robin before this but she is very pretty in an effortless yet kind of messy way.

Nancy had picked out a couple clothing items and they made their way to the dressing rooms with Robin standing outside to give input on the ones Nancy deemed worthy to walk out in. Nancy had picked out a couple pairs of pants, a pair of shorts, and one dress that was on sale and looked just her size. Nancy goes through the pants and the shorts deciding collectively to put back the shorts and one of the pairs of pants that was too tight around her crotch. The dress was beautiful but the zipper was hard to do alone so Nancy unlocks the dressing room and calls out to Robin behind the door.

“Could you come help me zip this?” She asked loudly which didn’t stand out since there were tons of people at the mall and a good amount in this shop so the chatter was pretty loud to begin with. Robin didn’t come in for a moment before opening the door and entering the dressing room with Nancy’s back to her, her hand was holding up the newly short hair that was more curly and frizzy than her old style. Robin hesitates and even takes what looks like a calming breath and holds the zipper and slides it up Nancy’s back. Nancy lets her hair fall back down as she looks at herself in the mirror…

“What do you think?” Nancy wonders as she turns to face a slightly flushed Robin, odd since the dressing rooms were cold if anything. Robin swallows thickly and shakes her head as if to snap herself out of a trance, her lips stretch into the most gentle and tender smile Nancy has ever seen.

“Y-You… You look beautiful, Nance…” Robin tells her softly, almost inaudible with the loud talking in the shop if they weren’t so close to each-other. Nancy is struck by how genuine Robin sounded saying that, it almost felt like her heart was speeding up… shit, it was… They don’t say anything and both stare at each-other, like they both don’t want to break this intimate silence between them in this dimly lit dressing room. Robin steps slightly closer and glances down at Nancy’s lips which accidentally draws Nancy’s own eyes to Robin’s lips, they were a deep red like she wore lipstick… Robin kisses her.

Nancy has no clue why but she’s about to lean into the kiss when Robin practically jumps away from her as if Nancy’s the one that sprung onto Robin. She looked like a deer in headlights and froze for a moment before opening the door and actually running away. Nancy is frozen to where she stood for… she doesn’t even know how long. Nancy was just kissed by another girl. She has a boyfriend!

Why the fuck did Nancy almost kiss back…?

Avoidance, Squared

‘Why did Robin kiss Nancy? Why would she do that? Is she psycho?! She must be actually insane. Why did it seem like Nance was going to kiss back?’ Robin’s thoughts were pretty consistently a repeat of that ever since she kissed Nancy Wheeler a week ago. What in the world compelled her to do that? No clue. Maybe it was that false sense of romance in that intimate and mildly romantic dressing room- ‘Yeah, a dressing room is SUPER romantic!’ Okay, Robin was fooling herself, she couldn’t come up with a logical explanation for why she did that if she tried. And she was TRYING. For the past week Robin has been a mess at work that even Steve noticed and asked what the hell happened when they went shopping together. Obviously Robin couldn’t tell him because she still was debating whether Steve seemed like he wouldn’t be a dick about her being gay.

Now it’s Tuesday around 3pm which was a lull in business, it was right after their lunch rush which was 90% annoying teenage kids that think it’s super fun to taste test every god damn flavor they had. So Robin was a bit off her guard since lunch was exhausting but Nancy had walked in and was making her way to the counter with a determined look in her eyes which could not mean ANYTHING good. Robin scrambles into the back and recreates an old memory.

Steve, man up and talk to your ex for me because I cannot serve her!” Robin whisper-yells in the same way Steve did that first encounter with Nance long ago (like a month ago but still). Steve seems shocked which makes sense since anytime before this Robin hopped over the counter to see Nance but now it was too awkward and she couldn’t deal with it- Wait. Steve is looking past her… behind her.

Robin slowly turns to see Nancy Wheeler with her arms crossed and a face that was so unreadable Robin could call herself dyslexic, even though that was kinda always how she felt when it came to reading someone’s emotions but that’s not the point! Steve- the pussy he is, gives himself an out of this very obviously tense situation.

“I’ll just… go man the register while you guys deal with… whatever you’re dealing with.” He hesitantly steps around Nancy and out of the backroom to go deal with any straggler customers. Robin winces at what she knows is going to be a horrible, uncomfortable, and above all awkward conversation.

“W-We should… go out there so Steve doesn’t evesdrop…” Robin mumbles in the awkward way she knew she would whenever this conversation came to existence while she points to the door leading to the back hallways of the mall where there were only ever really the random employee throwing out garbage. Nancy motions her as if to say ‘lead the way’ and Robin is a bit scared to turn her back to Nance for a moment in some primeval fear of Nancy stabbing her while she’s not looking. Not that she’d do that… probably. They were now both in that sterile hallway and Robin was leaning against the wall with her arms crossed and pointedly avoiding eye contact.

“Why- uh… Why’d you do that?” Nancy says in a voice that Robin hasn’t heard in a while, mousy and nervous. Robin glances up and notices that Nance is fiddling with her hair and seems as nervous as Robin is! The gall to be all tough and make Robin feel awkward and then look this adorable nervous! Should Robin tell her that she’s gay? Nancy would probably be able to figure that out on her own… She’s too smart to not know.

“I-I- Well… I just… It-um…” Robin had no explanation, she was trying to find one the last week and she had no idea what gave her the confidence to try that. Maybe it was how beautiful Nance looked in that dress, maybe it was how smooth her skin was, maybe the soft dim light of the dressing room, maybe it was the gentle voice Nancy used because they were so close… There were too many reasons and yet Robin couldn’t pin one particular big reason down.

“I… I have a boyfriend.” Nancy says the words that Robin dreaded to hear ever since she ran away from Nancy in that dressing room last Sunday… That was also a big reason for wanting to avoid this conversation. The boyfriend in question… Robin hangs her head in embarrassment as well as shame for kissing somebody who was already in a relationship, it was shitty to do and Robin wouldn’t forgive someone if they did that to her…

“But…” But? “I realized I didn’t… hate it.” Nancy finishes hesitantly as she glances between Robin and her very nice heels. Robin was shocked. But, boyfriend? Did that mean she wanted to do it again? What was Robin supposed to say? She’s probably supposed to say something! Wait, is Nancy-straight-as-an-arrow-Wheeler gay? But she’s dated guys… Maybe she swings both ways? Maybe she’s just trying to spare Robin’s feelings! That would suck really hard.

“So… If you would… want to try again…” Nancy prompts slowly as she moves a bit closer with a soft clack of her shoes that echoes off the empty halls. Robin is so surprised she can’t even for a coherent thought, it’s all just jumbled in her mind, her mouth is slightly open in shock at the drastic turn of events. Robin goes over her morals for a second… Cheating with someone when you know they have a partner is shitty… But passing up this opportunity to kiss Nancy Wheeler would be a crime! Shit this is actually super fucking difficult. Robin nods slowly with a bit of hesitance as she steps closer to Nancy and their lips meet in the middle, Nancy’s lips were super soft and plump, it was kind of insane how perfect Nancy Wheeler was honestly.

Robin feels herself hold her hands against Nancy’s waist and pull her closer. Robin didn’t have much kissing experience apart from a really really unenjoyable one in elementary school with some random ass dude and a secret kiss from a girl for seven minutes in heaven. This was… fucking amazing. Nancy was pretty demanding which wasn’t unexpected but the way Nance had her hand on the back of Robin’s head tangled in her hair was very enjoyable. Nancy’s lips tasted like strawberry chapstick and it was actually pretty tasty…

They finally broke off with them both breathing very heavily and both of their lipsticks smudged. Robin doesn’t mean to but she accidentally laughs softly at how strange this scenario is, Robin Buckley is kissing Nancy Wheeler messily in secret while she has a boyfriend… It’s insane.

Wha- Don’t laugh, you bitch!” Nancy berates but she’s laughing a bit as well, Robin’s lipstick must be smudged too. Nancy reaches soft spindly fingers up to grasp Robin’s chin softly and she wipes away what must be smudged lipstick. Nancy has this smile on her face that is indescribable… She looks so… caring. Kind. Robin swallows thickly and licks her thumb before helping wipe the smudges off Nancy’s face as well…

“Well… I- I should go… Maybe we could do this again?” Nancy said softly as she stepped away from Robin and had a shy look on her face. She steps back and goes through the door back into Scoops Ahoy probably to leave. There was no way this was actually happening for Robin!

Today has to be the best day Robin has ever had in her life.
