Work Text:
Mingi lays in bed and tries to smell the tea Seonghwa’s made for him. He’s failing at the latter. No smell, no taste, no happiness, no joy, no whimsy.
Hongjoong called him dramatic when Mingi complained, but he’s just as bad if not worse. The whole friend group must tend to him if he feels even a little sniffly. But it’s not just being sick that’s making Mingi miserable. He’s soending Valentine’s day alone. Sick. Mingi was sick. Mingi was sick on Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day!! The day he’d been anticipating since the 1st of the month. The day he was supposed to go on a lovely all-day date with his boyfriend. The day he was supposed to splurge on chocolate and jewelry and plushies. The day he was supposed to go to Build-A-Bear and get matching stuffed animals where he and Yunho could put cute little ‘I love you’ voice messages inside.
All these plans ruined by influenza.
And yet, Hongjoong has the audacity to call him dramatic!
Speak of the devil, he appears with a knock on the door.
“Mingi, how’re you doin? Willing to accept a visitor?” Hongjoong asks through the cracked door. Mingi grunts in weak approval and looks up from his laptop to see a huge bouquet of flowers accompanied by two figures moving into the room.
Wooyoung puts the bouquet on the side table and goes to give Mingi a hug but is quickly pulled away by San.
“Hey, Dummy, did you already forget he’s sick?” San complains as he drags the shorter away.
“But he looks so pitiful! Mingi you look awful, are you eating well? Getting enough sun?” Wooyoung stops fighting San’s grasp but looks at Mingi with wide concerned eyes.
“Lovely way of putting it there, Woo. But yeah, Seonghwa is feeding me soups and teas and keeps the blinds and windows open for ‘daily vitamin d’. I think his maternal instincts are kicking in.”
Woosan nod in agreement. “Makes sense,” San says “He did the same when I got sick. Moved me into this guest room and called out of work for me and everything.”
Wooyoung giggles and points a finger at San “You loved it so much. I had to drag you back home even though you kept trying to convince us you were definitely still sick ‘cus you felt a little warm, but you didn't even hide the hairdryer well.”
San nods to confirm “It was so good, I felt cared for like I was 6 again. Anyways, we just came to give you flowers and see if you died yet. Happy to see you’re just miserable!”
Mingi laughs at the comment and says his goodbyes to them as they leave. He doesn’t want to spoil their Valentine’s any longer. Wooyoung has already told the chat his plans to drag San out to an arcade to make San get him the giant stuffed cat from the prize counter.
He looks over to the flowers brought in. It’s clearly meant for Valentine’s day, given the pinks and whites and reds of the array. Mingi picks it up to smell, but even with his nose touching the pollen he can’t grasp anything. This reminder makes him set the bouquet back down and go back to watching the video playing on his laptop. He wanted to finish The Way Of The Househusband, but he couldn’t watch without feeling petty about their happy relationship. Gachiakuta it is.
Halfway through an episode, Seonghwa knocks “You have more visitors, is that okay?” Mingi gives him a thumbs up and pauses the show. Yeosang and Jongho come in with a box of chocolates and a stuffed bear holding a heart. The heart most likely says Happy Valentine’s or something of the sort, however there is a pink sticky note thoroughly taped on that says ‘get well soon' instead.
“Hey, you look like you’re doing good. We got you chocolate and something to cuddle.” Jongho says, placing both of them beside Mingi on the bed.
“I picked the plush!” Yeosang proudly states “And Jongho helped with the edit.”
Mingi giggles as he inspects the amount of tape holding the sticky note in place. “It’s great, thanks. So what are you guys doing today?”
“Well,” Jongho wraps an arm around Yeosang's waist “We are going to go have lunch, and the rest is a surprise for him.”
Yeosang nods “I planned the first half of today, and he planned the second half! We made breakfast together, and then we made playlists for eachother that we listened to while we picked out books. We stopped by on the way to lunch.”
Jongho nods then glances at his watch “Lunch that we’re going to be late for if we don’t go right now.” He walks Yeosang towards the door “Get well soon, Mingi!” Yeosang echoes him and then they’re gone.
Mingi waves goodbye until they disappear behind the door. Once they’ve left, he opens up the chocolates box. Usually he’d get fed by Yunho but… I guess today he has to get his own hands dirty today.
He groans in frustration as he pressed play on the anime again.
Later, it’s time for Seonghwa and Hongjoong to go out on their Valentine’s date. Each of them had come into his room asking him if it was an okay outfit for the fancy restaurant they’re going to. He approves Seonghwa’s black sparkly long bodycon dress that makes him look like a glam Morticia Addams, and Hongjoong’s black and white suit and skirt that makes him look like a Victorian vampire orphan boy. They look good together but they also look like a lesbian couple. He hopes they confuse people of their gender all night like he knows they want.
Mingi hears a knock on his door and voices follow.
“Mingi, we’re leaving. Any last requests?” Hongjoong asks through the crack.
“No I’m all good for the night, Shoo shoo. Oh and make noise when you come back so I know when to put in my earbuds.” Seonghwa laughs as Hongjoong makes a scoff at being accused even though they all know how this night is ending.
“Fine! Well I hope I don’t come home to any suspicious noises either thank you!” He shuts the door and they walk off before Mingi can question what he means. Mingi is clearly not gonna jork it while sick and alone in bed. On Valentine’s day? That’s just sad.
He’s about to go back to finish the first half of the anime when there’s another knock at the door.
“Hongjoong? Forgot something?”
Instead of Hongjoong, a much taller figure opens the door.
“Hey princess! I’m sorry I was gone all day, I was rearranging everything.”
Mingi is shocked to see Yunho walk through the door with a giant stuffed dog with a heart in it’s mouth, a bouquet that rivals Woosan's in bigness, and two bags of who knows what.
“Yunho…what? What in the world did you bring, that’s so much! And what are you doing here, we can’t hang out or you’ll get sick.” Mingi sits up fully and sets aside his laptop as he watches Yunho set the stuff down beside the bed and sit next to Mingi.
“Who cares about being sick? I’ll be with you. You didn’t think I wasn’t going to come, did you? Valentine’s would actually be so awful if I didn’t get to spend it with you.” Yunho says as he gets under the covers and pulls Mingi in for a hug and a kiss on the head. “How are you doing, my princess? You’re still warm. Did you eat well today?”
Mingi could cry. Of course Yunho would come.
Mingi curls closer into Yunho, head resting on his chest. “I’m okay, I did eat good. Hongjoong has been doing better in the kitchen, apparently Seonghwa has been teaching him.”
Yunho gasps “No way, him? Are we sure he’s not just saying he’s cooking when really it’s still Seonghwa and he’s just getting ingredients out?”
Mingi snickers at him “That’s probably it. I don’t believe him either. Oh I was watching this new anime I think you’d like…”
Mingi and Yunho spend the rest of the night watching Gachiakuta from the beginning. Yunho feeds Mingi chocolates he can’t taste. They cuddle and Yunho fetches Mingi a tissue when he sniffles. When Hongjoong and Seonghwa come home, they plug in two headphone jacks and crank the volume up a little bit more.
In the morning, Mingi wakes up to Yunho sneezing.
