Shinichi groaned as the light filtered through the window, shining straight into his eyes. He yawned, slowly sitting up and deciding he probably wouldn’t be getting anymore sleep, so he might as well just get up.
It was a pretty average day at Camp Half-Blood, all things considered.
Shinichi exited Cabin 13, stretching as made his way down to the dining pavilion for breakfast. It wasn’t that early, but it was still pretty empty. There were about twenty campers in all, seated and milling around with their food. Most of them were sitting with their friends, not explicitly at their own cabin tables.
Shinchi grabbed some food, before taking a seat at his grandmother’s, also known as Cabin 6’s, table where his only currently-awake friend was at. “Good morning, Shiho!” The aforementioned child of Athena raised her coffee in greeting.
“Shinichi!”
He turned around and spotted two of his other friends heading towards them. Ran, Sonoko, and Sera, daughters of Demeter, Aphrodite, and Zeus respectively, sat down across from them. “Good morning! Sorry we’re a bit late, my siblings were arguing about the best environment for a bat flower and blocking the door. Kazuha went to wake up Heiji,” Ran explained, before taking a bite of a strawberry. “Bat flowers? Don’t those only grow in Asia?” Shinichi asked quizzically. “Yes, which is why I’m not even sure why they were talking about it in the first place,” Ran sighed, and Shinichi laughed.
A few minutes later, they were joined by Kazuha, Ran’s half-sibling, and Heiji, who’d somehow slept in late through the usual ruckus of Cabin 5.
About half an hour after that, a group of Hephaestus campers trudged into the pavilion covered in soot and glitter. Trailing behind them was one enthusiastic son of Hermes, Kaito, and two exasperated children of Apollo, Aoko and Hakuba.
“Do we even have to ask?”
Kaito grinned.

After breakfast, Shinichi participated in a canoe race, during which he got to witness a fight between an Ares kid and an Apollo kid, which ended in three capsized canoes. Then there was archery, where he ended up being narrowly missed by an arrow from one of the Ares kids, who'd just found out he'd been cursed to be terrible at archery by the Apollo kid he'd fought earlier.
So maybe today was going just a bit downhill.
But it could still get better!!
…or at least, that’s what he told himself, until he entered the dining pavilion for dinner, sat down with his food for about five seconds watching the campfire sing-a-long, and then was called to the Big House. Which in his experience usually ended in a prophecy, a headache, or more commonly, both.
As he entered the Rec Room, he saw his friends gathered around the ping pong table. At the front was their oracle, Akako. “What happened?” he asked. “There’s a new prophecy,” Heiji said. “Or well, there’s a new Great Prophecy, and another one that will possibly end up related later that’s for you,” Kaito elaborated. Shinichi blinked.
Akako cleared her throat, and everyone turned to face her. “Listen well, son of Hades.” With that, Akako’s eyes began to glow with an otherworldly light.
“When death’s own son steps into day,
And wisdom’s blood will guide his way,
Three born of youth and golden cup
Shall stray before their time is up.
A forge-lit mind shall show the road,
Though not by him the quest is owed.
If shadow heeds what spring reveals,
The bloom of youth at last shall heal.”
Shinichi committed the prophecy to memory, letting out a small breath. It didn’t necessarily sound too dire. He just had to find three kids that were probably children of Hebe. Easy.
Akako paused, before turning to the room at large. Everyone held their breath; they knew what was coming next.
“Beneath black wings that blot the sun,
A bitter cup shall pass as one.
What gods once poured to grant new breath
Shall now be laced with silent death.
The child of graves with inherited sight
Must walk the line of wrong and right.
The son of death shall stand between
The light unseen and fate unclean.
The silver mind with wisdom’s brand,
Once maker’s hand, now breaker’s hand,
Shall face the storm her making wrought
Where years are stolen, names forgot.
The trickster’s coin, the war-born blade,
The twin spring hearts in green array,
The sun’s bright pair, the storm’s lone heir,
And love adorned in jeweled snare.
When trust is poured and glasses raised,
One vow betrayed, one bond erased.
If death and wisdom turn aside,
The ravens feast on youth denied.”
Yeah, Shinichi really shouldn’t have gotten up today.
