i blinked, and suddenly i had a valentine

Summary:

“Uh, there’s a lot of ones with half the stars there, but I think that one there should be Lepus.”

Tyler paused in slight thought. “I thought it was Lupus.”

“Different constellations,” Logan replied, giving a slight laugh. “They are pretty easy to confuse name-wise.”

OR: Tyler takes an offhand comment from Aiden more seriously than expected.

Notes:

title is from valentine by laufey

happy "it's the very end of valentine's day in my time zone should i say happy LATE valentine's day" valentine's day lmao

anyways this technically ties into my spiderman aidlyn fic(check it out if you like aidlyn, it's not too long) but it's completely fine to read as a standalone, not heavy plot tie in at all

i lwky wrote tyler n logan as dorks in this one💀💀

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Tyler talked to Aiden a fair bit. He took most comments from the guy as something stupid and not to take seriously, which he would call a fairly good idea.

Aiden liked to tease people. A lot. And Tyler knew this, but there was still a little voice in his head—that sounded suspiciously like Aiden, mind you, the guy had weaseled his way into Tyler’s brain, apparently—that was telling him he should take the comments about Valentine’s Day Aiden had made to heart.

Should he get something for Logan? They weren’t even dating. It was like a…whatever Taylor called it, talking stage, situationship, some bullshit.

Tyler never made an effort for Valentine’s Day. He’d always said that Valentine’s Day was the most stupid thing that he’d ever heard of since he was a little kid. Admitting that made him sound kind of like the grumpy love interest in a rom com, but it was just true. He didn’t like celebrating things that were so cliche, even if complaining about the cliche of it all was cliche in itself. He’d thought of the word cliche one too many times, he might get fatigue.

Regardless, the holiday was not his thing. But there was this urge in the back of his mind telling him getting Logan something would not be such a bad idea. And the more he thought about it, why shouldn’t he? He could play it off as platonic, right? Just being nice.

Nothing to do with a stupid little crush on that nerd. At all.

(Tyler was not convincing.)

Time to get his mind off addressing…that. Gifts for Logan? Well, Tyler knew he liked astronomy, and he worked at a flower shop—or were they called florist shops? Tyler had to ask Logan about that now.

Ugh, you useless gay, Tyler.

Tyler knew he liked Logan. He was in denial, or not really, if he knew he was in denial. Giving him something for Valentine’s Day shouldn’t be such a hard thing to go through with, because he either needed to get over his crush, or do something about it.

Yeah…Tyler could get something for him tomorrow. Valentine’s Day was soon enough. It wouldn’t be that hard to get him something. Astronomy or flowers…both?

***

It was the night of February 14th by the time Tyler “toughened up” as Aiden would say and gave something to Logan for the holiday.

Tyler had got him a little book on astronomy a few days earlier, since that was what he had mainly been going off, and then stewed in anxiety over it for a decent amount of time. Tyler wasn’t sure if he was that great at gift giving generally, but he’d try a hand at it. Putting off dealing with the whole him and Logan situation was not a great idea, per the advice of Taylor, which he would probably agree with.

Tyler glanced away awkwardly as he held out the book to Logan, feeling some kind of heat creep up the back of his neck that could probably be blush, but he tried to push it down. He wished he could cover his face completely from sight like the mess he was, but his bangs were not nearly neglected enough for that(unlike Aiden’s).

From the corner of his eye, Tyler watched Logan open his mouth to say something, proceed to close it, and look down at the book for a good few seconds.

“...Thanks,” Logan said quietly, taking the book in his hand. He turned it over, eyes focused on the back of the book as Tyler practically burned with embarrassment. But, hey, he’d done it.

“I, uh, actually—” Logan started, not great at getting the full sentence out, but still catching Tyler’s attention quite well considering how his head practically perked up. “I actually got something for you too…”

Tyler was going to die in a ditch of pure mortification, and happiness.

Logan trailed back a little bit, opened up the bag of his sitting on the couch, rummaged through for a considerably short time—he must be organized—and pulled out a pair of stud earrings.

Oh, fuck, Logan knew him too well. Did he actually listen when Tyler had actually talked about loving ear piercing that one?

Tyler muttered out his own “thanks”, trying to focus more on not burning up with blush on his face. He turned over the earrings, figuring out that they were most likely stainless steel(good for avoiding infections, the voice in Tyler’s brain noted).

An awkward silence fell between them, something inevitable to happen when these two actually tried to deal with their feelings. Tyler felt like he was about to go entirely red with embarrassment, but he was luckily not pale enough for that.

“I thought…” Tyler trailed off, apparently not great with his phrasing. He decided to just beat around the bush. “Do you wanna go stargazing?”

Logan nodded.

The two of them ended up in Tyler’s car shortly afterwards, talking a little bit through the car ride, but inevitably being somewhat silent for a decent bit of it with their awkwardness. They only talked a good amount because of the longevity of it.

It was decently dark out when Tyler finally stopped the car.

The two of them settled down in the surprisingly green grass on a weirdly far hill slightly outside of New York. Tyler turned his head to look over to Logan for a quick second, whose eyes had already gone over to the stars spilling across the night sky.

They weren’t very visible, considering they were close enough to the city for the lights to have some effect on the sky, but Tyler could see the faint traces of the stars making up constellations.

“Do you see any full constellations?” Tyler questioned, gesturing vaguely to the sky as Logan finally even glanced at him rather than the stars.

“...Makes sense. Just, tell me about this one, I guess,” Tyler tried to recover from the mistake he considered embarrassing, but Logan seemed entirely fine with it.

“Well, it’s one spotted around Ancient Grecian times. It’s supposed to represent a rabbit being hunted by Orion and his dogs,” Logan explained eagerly, hands moving along with his words in excitement. He corrected himself at the end, saying, “Well, hunting dogs.”

“Which stars is it?” Tyler asked, a little curious about the little dots in the sky that it could be. He’d only figured out the vague area of it from Logan gesturing to said vague area.

Logan pointed to a various amount of stars, leading to a connect the dot style pattern Tyler could not see as a very anatomically accurate rabbit—constellations never were, were they?—but he was definitely willing to let Logan talk his ear off about it.

They fell into a silence briefly, reminding Tyler of how they had earlier. Though, now, they were just looking at the stars. Tyler easily gave into turning his head and looking over at Logan, the picture of somebody with a crush. He exhaled lightly, not even looking away at the stars as Logan’s eyes flicked over to him.

They both looked at each other, only a little awkward as Tyler got distracted by blue eyes. God, Logan made him so corny.

There seemed to some sort of mutual understanding between the two of them as their lips finally met.

Logan’s lips were cold from the wind against Tyler’s, and yet, the kiss was the best gift for Valentine’s Day plausible and when did he become such a softie?

Tyler and Logan pulled away after a few seconds, breaths mingling in the cold air. Logan gave a slight smile, and Tyler gave into the internally soft part of him, smiling back.

Maybe Aiden had been right about giving Logan something for Valentine’s Day in the end.

Not that Aiden was ever being told about this.
