Work Text:

"Ooh, this looks nice!"

The video store was bustling with activity. Many students crowded around after their classes to find something to do or watch.

Near the back corner, there was one blonde girl holding up an old camera.

"Wonder how much it costs.." Amelia muttered, brushing off the dust on the cover. It seemed perfectly fine other than the dust and a small dent. She flipped through the blurry settings on the back, fingers deftly moving between buttons.

"This is good. Maybe I can take some new photos with it." She grinned and placed the lens cover back on. "Maybe even take a photo of her.."

The girl moved with purpose towards the counter, easily slipping between the crowds of fellow classmates and strangers. She hummed a jaunty tune, bobbing her head up and down in a beat only she could hear.

As she neared the counter, her gaze caught on a familiar blue jacket.

Wait.. is that her? She shook her head. No way, right? The girl peered over the crowd to find a familiar head of white and blue tipped hair. She felt her cheeks heat up as she ducked back down. Oh my god it is her!

She clutched the camera close to her chest, cheeks still pink. Maybe I can approach her? Like, just a coincidental meeting. Totally. She mentally groaned. Definitely not stalking her by accident. No way.

She raised her head high as she approached the long line. The shark girl was right in front of her now, holding a movie disk in her arms.

Amelia stepped a little closer, trying to calm her racing heart. "Oh, hey there Gura-"

"Did you get the movie yet?" someone cut her off.

A purple haired girl stepped beside the shorter girl, smiling down at her. The shark girl nodded back, holding up the movie like a trophy.

Amelia felt her chest tighten. Ah, she's with someone else.

She stepped back.

I-I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up, she mentally chided herself. We're just classmates after all.

She set the old camera down on a nearby stack of movies and bolted out the store. People looked at her weirdly but she didn't care.

The bell chimed behind her as the blonde ran out the store.

-+-

I'm such an idiot.

Amelia ended up in a nearby alleyway, leaning against a graffitied wall. She hung her head low and sighed.

We're only classmates. She doesn't even know me at all.

Her hands shook as she reached for her pocket watch. The reflection revealed dulled blue eyes staring back at her.

This was a mistake.

She slowly turned the knob on top, winding back the hands.

Why did I bother? Why did I care?

Her thumb hovered over the button as she sighed.

About this girl named Gawr Gura.

The blonde vanished in a flash of golden light, leaving only a pile of gold ash in her wake.

-+-

Something's wrong..

Gura turned around, movie still clutched to her chest. Her cyan gaze caught a flash of gold from an alleyway.

Her breath hitched but she didn't know why.

"Something wrong, Gura?" Ina asked gently.

Gura shook her head, exhaling shakily. "It's.. it's probably nothing.."

Ina nodded and started talking about a book she was reading, but Gura's gaze still lingered on the empty alleyway.

I feel like I messed something up.

Notes:

(Authors note for the Valentine's story)
Very fun to write this. There was this MV for the song with the same title, and Amelia Watson actually sang it and Gura was there in the stream. Very funny moment I found during my boredom. The MV did have the same sort of scene as what I portrayed. I just turned it from an animation to writing prose and such. Idk. I like it and that's enough~ totally. Ijo!
