Work Text:
Whenever Hypno steps outside his pyramid, the first thing to draw his eye is XB’s giant copper golem, nine times out of ten. And it always brings a little smile to his face.
(The other one-in-ten, he’s facing the wrong way.)
It’s worked out nicely, making bases right next to each other this season. Corners just aligned, just spaced–like two hands resting on a bench, not needing to touch to be held. The color palettes are similar, but just different enough to tell where one blackstone-and-copper-and-grass base ends, and another copper-and-moss-and-stone base begins. Greens and blacks and the copper range.
Hypno gets all the grass he needs, and XB gets all the grass out of his overflowing storage room. Hypno builds a pyramid up, and XB takes a mountain down, and they both live inside the hollows underneath. There’s even been talk of a tunnel between them, though Hypno’s still wary after last season.
And with XB constantly gathering large amounts of materials and flying away to pull off his “FedXB” persona, there’s plenty of opportunity for Hypno to borrow from his storage room with a reasonable chance of getting away with it. (And even when XB does catch him, he doesn’t say anything. They both know he’s also stealing from Hypno–it’s the Hermitcraft Way.)
They have plans to make farms together later as well. Mostly for Hypno–he needs so much blackstone for his pyramid, and there’s only so many bastions you can delete. (He remembers why the original version back in season 1 was made of regular stone) XB knows gold farms like the back of his hand, and Hypno can handle the bartering farm it’ll fuel. So, in a way, they’re farm-neighbors-to-be as well.
Even their starter houses had a similar feel to them; the classic wood and stone, reworked in more modern techniques. Key word being ‘had’, because Hypno’s has been immortalized, and XB’s has been burnt to the ground. As you do.
Even when they don’t have a chance to chat, it’s easy to catch a glimpse of XB darting in and out of his base, and Hypno’s sure that XB feels the same about him in turn. Two black-jacketed bugs zipping about; a quiet togetherness. There’s no rush to sneak any time together. No running out of hello’s anytime soon. It’s a calm, casual, pressureless tandem existence, and Hypno appreciates it.
He’s gonna have to figure out how to get XB back for moving Buttons over to his pyramid, though. He can’t just return the snowman; that’s against the spirit of the traveling prank.
Oh well. The season’s just started; Hypno has plenty of time.
