Work Text:
Climbing the vines is common in the journey 4c, Spidey, and “Jonathan” have been taking through the city. But 4c hadn’t failed to do so until now.
He’d just been climbing up normally, following after “Jonathan” as Spidey lags a little behind on the vines, scared to even be attempting to climb them. “Jonathan” had been encouraging her, and neither of them were paying much attention to 4c, which was absolutely fine… until it wasn’t. Maybe, if they were paying more attention to him, they would’ve noticed him stop on the vine he was climbing, a random spout of weakness and dizziness stopping him from continuing upwards. He tried to keep his grip, to pull himself the rest of the way up onto the roof of the building they were scaling, but a small coughing fit stops him, and the iron-tinted taste of blood in his mouth distracts him. He doesn’t feel very good, he feels weak and tired. And it’s that weakness that makes him lose his grip on the vines. “WAH-!” He yells when he falls from the plants, and that’s when Spidey and “Jonathan” switch their attention towards him.
“4c!” Spidey screams, watching as he smacks down hard into a jutted out ledge on the building they’re on. The crack of him hitting the ledge resonates loudly throughout the space up here, but it’s better than him hitting the pavement even further down.
“Ow…” Spidey hears him groan, but it means he’s still alive. At least the fall didn’t kill him. She wastes no time after that, already starting to carefully clamber her way down to him. She sees “Jonathan” practically swinging down a separate vine as he passes her, being less careful than she is. He does get down to 4c first though, and he immediately goes to inspecting the slime’s injuries.
Schpood carefully pushes 4c to sit up, muttering apologies and assurances as he listens to the other whimper in pain while his body’s being moved. He goes about inspecting all around 4c’s body as soon as he can, lifting his shirt to see a bruise already blooming on his back from the force of the impact. He feels around for anything broken, and upon finding that the slime didn’t really have bones to break, he’s relieved, albeit a bit disturbed. How the hell does he move around then if he doesn’t have bones?
Whatever, it’s a question for another time, as Spidey finally arrives down on the ledge and starts talking -to 4c, mostly, though with the next wound he finds, Schpood isn’t entirely sure he understands. His head is bleeding, it looks like an older wound reopened with the fall he took. He seems to be okay though, as he is talking with Spidey like normal, even if he sounds pained while he does so. 4c starts coughing then, coughing up blood. That’s not good, what of he was internally bleeding? There were many things Schpood could do, but curing internal bleeding was DEFINITELY not one of them. There isn’t really much Schpood can do for him, unfortunately. Though it hurts to see him in pain.
Once the coughing fit passes, 4c groans again, aching. “Ow…” he breathes, tears pricking the corners of his eyes. Schpood thinks a moment, then takes out one of the medicines 4c had given him earlier. He uncorks the bottle, scooching a little to kneel at 4c’s side rather than behind him.
“Here,” he says, handing the bottle to his friend. “Drink this, it might help.”
“Okay..?” 4c says, though he sounds a little confused. Then again, he always seems a little confused. He drinks the medicine, grimacing a little afterwards, though from pain or the taste, Schpood wouldn’t be able to tell. It works at least a little bit though, as 4c sighs in some amount of relief. “That feels better, thank you!” He says, ever the kind soul, even when he forgets half the things he’s learned since he three of them had all met.
“Yeah buddy, anytime..” Schpood replies, a little awkward with it. He isn’t really used to being thanked, gratitude is a little hard to come by in times like these. “Well!” He says suddenly, clearing his throat as he gets back to his feet. “We should be off now, daytime isn’t going to last forever. Can you stand, 4c?”
“I think so..” the slime responds, proceeding to push himself back to his feet with some effort and a small wince. Schpood then takes out some random blocks he’s been carrying, and he starts building up a staircase to the top of the building they’re on so that 4c doesn’t get hurt again trying to climb the vines. He tells the other two to follow him, and they comply easily, happy to follow their new-ish friend up a safer way.
“For the record!” Spidey says, her voice and mannerisms back to being more bubbly as they usually were, “This is why I do not like heights!”
