Work Text:

It was nauseating, first him and John were taking a break, stretching outside the car near a beautiful onlooking John was describing, then all the sudden are sent tumbling through some portal.

Arthur passed out after landing on something soft...

----

"Arthur..."

A low growl echoed in his head, "Arthur", the voice echos again. "ARTHUR!!" his name was roared, "AH!" Arthur jolted awake, feeling soft grass underneath his body, and his clothes felt different.

"ugh.... John? What... What happened? Why do you sound..." Arthur trailed off, "different? It seems that we were seperated, but by how you are acting, you are still blind..." John chuffed, making Arthur feel a gust of warm air, "Okay- just tell me our surroundings... Like usual..." he sighed.

"Okay... We are in a forest, I can hear water lapping against a shore and the sky is blue with some clouds, to our left is a small stream of water..." he paused, "... Now that I look at myself, I seem to be covered in bones, attached to my body it seems, underneath is smooth, dark grey skin that has swirling yellow patterns, I have two small arms and long back legs with long claws that also appear to be bone, my wings look gigantic, and when at my sides they almost look like a yellow cloak, mt face is a skull, long and sharp teeth, two horns and frills lay at the sides of my head." This time Arthur didn't hear any clicks, chitters, or growls.

"I... shouldn't be surprised from what we've faced," he sighed before continuing, "But I didn't hear any growl that I heard before." Arthur mentioned.

"I figured I should of tested it, but it seems we can speak telepathicly.." John conformed.

"can you hear me right now? Just a test if it both ways" Arthur thought, hoping for John to hear, "Yes, I can. At least that issue is solved if we run into other humans and you need to talk to them when I need to talk to you." John chuffed.

"I figure we should get going... don't want to see any residences of this island..." Arthur suggested, John growled in agreement.

"my side is infront of you, get on, it'd be faster and more effecent than letting you stay on the ground." he informed, "Brilliant..." Arthur sighed, feeling around for anything to climb on, John then letting his arm down for Arthur to use as a boost, Arthur's hands grasping the spine bones and pulling himself up, getting comfortable.

"Not the most comfortable. But it will do" he sighed, before asking, "John, what am I wearing right now?" he asked, hearing the sounds of bone clinking against one another and feeling John turn his head towards him.

"hmm... Looks to be a tunic, a blue tunic to be exact, wearing a brown furred sleeveless jacket of sorts and matching brown pants and brown leather boots..." He felt John move, picking something from the ground before turning back to nudge the bag against Arthur's hand, "The bag! If my clothes changed I hope nothing changed within the bag..." Arthur worried, it would be bad if any of the modern luxuries had changed through the portal.

He felt around... the lighter felt as it usually did, mask the same, the dagger and other items felt the same, and he decided to pull out the obsidian dagger, the tentril still on it if it made John flinch.

"Well, I can see the tendril without the need of the mask... So perhaps other dragons can too," John noted, "it would be best to keep it hidden until we need it most, from my reaction, it could be from a primal part of my brain to run away." he hypothesised.

"duly noted. Lets get going n-OOWW!" Arthur yelp-screamed when John flapped his wings and into the sky, holding onto the spine bone until they stabilized. "You- you could of warned me" And the only response was a sound akin to a laugh.

"You are sometimes insufferable you know that?" Arthur grumbled, "I'm the one flying here" John mused.

"I- okay" Arthur knew this was going to be a long ride.

----

There were vikings. Specifically, dragon trapping vikings. The worst part? Arthur could understand all the dragons.

He wouldn't let go of John when they were captured, so they put him in the same cage as him.

"John I can understand them- they won't stop screeching for help, calling for their parents... I hate this I hate this... This feels worse than the pit..." Arthur silently cried, covering his ears, and John had his tail around Arthur, and he quickly felt around before feeling a soft fin-like part of John's tail, the softness almost completely grounding him... Until he heard footsteps...

"Ohehehhehhe!"

That sounded like a deranged man if he ever heard one. "A dragon rider I've never seen! And- WOW! I have to say I've never seen a dragon like that before!"

"the man that stands before us has short red hair and a patchy red beard, his eyes are dark green, he has a long scar on the left side of his face that branch out, like on a tree, it goes up to scar his eyebrow. He also has blue paint that is in three marks-" John paused before continuing, "the armour he wears has a depiction of a dragon and looks well-worn." John stopped.

"wow, tough crowd huh?" the man then laughed uncontrollably. "I really don't like how he sounds similar to Kayne..." Arthur whispered, "I agree..." John growled back, before a whistling sound cut through the air.

The deranged man sighed, "EVERY single time something new and exiting happens!" he sounded annoyed.

"Thank the skies! The rescuers are here!" Arthur heard a dragon roar.

That brought some sense of comfort, if the dragons knew to trust whoever was about to free them.

"Arthur I think it'd be best for you to get on my back again" John suggested, and Arthur hummed in agreement, climbing onto John's back.

[----]

If you told Hiccup that he would meet another dragon rider while rescuing dragons from the beserkers, he'd probably think about the possibilites of it happening.

Now the riders had someone new, Arthur, if he heard correctly, and his dragon, John, while the twins bickered at different names for the skeletal armored dragon, both him and Fishlegs were trying to figure out the dragon's species.

"a Hybrid maybe?" Fishlegs suggested, making Hiccup hum... He looked back to the saddless dragon rider, and then to Arthur's dragon.

Some traits of both a boneknapper and deathsong prominently were shown, but the boneknapper part shows more.

The frills and underwing really show the deathsong half though, underneath the wings looking that of black and yellow eyes.

Same with the small arms, so hybrid it was, until then, they take Arthur back to Dragon's edge, get of where he came from, and how to get him home.
