Work Text:
“You smell like fries.” Lucy says when Tim enter the storage closet. Actually this whole closet smelt like fries and burgers but—
“Sorry.” Tim says and his mouth twitches into a smile. He’s still wearing that ridiculous hat, and she’s not sure if it’s because she hasn’t been this close to him in days or the fact she finds the hat sexy because it’s Tim. And he made a full sleeve tattoo and greasy hair hot.
“It’s fine.” She says. And she steps closer to him, “I’m just glad I’m here. And you are here. How much time do we have?”
“Maybe 15 minutes give or take.” He says. “They will miss me out there and the cars—”
“Okay.” Lucy says and she puts her hand on his chest. And really she’s more amused than anything. Tim is taking his job seriously even if it’s at a burger joint. “You know you don’t actually work here right?”
“I am aware.” He says and he moves to fix the hat. “I have to keep up appearances and in 15 minutes they may come looking for Drew.” Lucy rolls her eyes and steps a little closer.
“Well tell me.” She says. “Can you resist me even as Drew?”
“I’m not that strong.” He mutters and suddenly his lips are on hers and she’s backed up against a wall with his hands all over him.
Oh how she dreamed about this the past few nights.
His big, warm, perfect hands all over her. In her hair and everywhere he could reach.
Lucy pulls away breathless and puts one front up on the wall behind before pulling him closer by his apron.
“Did you ever have an after school job at a burger joint?” She asks. “You seem like a natural.”
“Believe it or not. This is my first one. And I can’t even put it on my resume.” He says shrugging. “I guess I’m just good at stuff.”
“Cocky too.” She says grinning up at him. “It’s brave of you to flirt with a customer.”
“Oh that’s what you think I was doing huh?” He asks and then his head is in her neck and she feels a warmth go through her that only Tim could bring.
“Yes.”
“You were pretty bold too.” He says. “You are sucker for a man in uniform. So you use that on all the guys?”
“Just you.” She whispers. Tim sighs softly and raises his head to look at her. There’s love and awe in his eyes but also desperation because they will have to separate soon. Nyla was covering for her because she covered for her with James.
“I’m not sleeping.” He says. “At home.” Lucy looks at him and runs her finger to trace his jaw.
“Tim—”
“I can’t sleep without you Lucy.” He says his voice firm. “Don’t worry James offered me his couch. He’s not sleeping much either.”
“Oh.” Lucy says and she’s glad he has someone who understands what it’s like to be away from the one you love. “So you are sleeping on James’s couch. You are sleeping?”
“Yes.” Tim says. “James meets up with Nyla. Although I’m not suppose to know that.”
“It’s fine.” Lucy says waving him off. She covered for Nyla, and even if this was one of the only places they could find on such short notice. It was worth because at least she could touch Tim, and feel him. At least she knows he’s willing to do anything for her.
“This hasn’t been easy on either of us.” Tim nods and tucks some hair behind her ear.
“I wish we had more time.” He says and Lucy watches his face fall a little. “I really, really need you back home.”
“I need you to be waiting for me.” She says and she’s not afraid of Tim bailing again. He wouldn’t do that but the thought of him waiting for her at home made her want to solve this case. As soon as possible.
She didn’t know what she was expecting when she agreed to this job. When she volunteered it. She knew it would tear her away from the man she loves, her friends and her actual job. She just didn’t know it would have to much of an impact on her. She just wants to get him and to her own bed.
“That’s a guarantee.” He says. Lucy nods and scans his face. She knows how he feels about undercover work, they discussed it before she left. But there was still this invisible string between them. She knows he’s willing to talk about it if she wants to but—
“How are you okay with this?” She asks. “Going through this again? How—”
“Because you are different. I am different.” He says with confidence. “I’m not going to hold you back from this. Ever. I will always be on the sidelines cheering you on or right by your side. I will be serving you at a burger joint if I have to.”
“Okay but—” Lucy swallows. She hates bringing up his ex wife but she needs to know. Undercover was one of the reasons they almost broke back then and it was something they swept under the rug. “Isabel.”
“Isabel was never the love of my life.” Tim says and he leans in closer. “You are. And I love you enough to put on this silly apron and hat.”
Lucy has to hold herself back a little. The love of his life. The love of his life. “The things you do for love huh?” She says. Tim nods and leans in to kiss her.
“The things you do for love.” He repeats back. “I hate to do this but—”
“You have to get back out there.” She says. “And so do I.” Tim nods and he does look regretful.
“Yes.” He says. “But maybe we can meet up again?” Lucy nods and stands on her toes to kiss him.
“Count on it.” She says. Tim sighs and then pushes back and goes for the door. Lucy is behind him and her eyes follow as he reaches for the door knob and starts to open it.
“Wait!” She says suddenly and he turns back to face her. The ridiculous hat is lopsided now.
“What?”
“Make sure you bring that apron home.” She says. Tim stumbles forward a little and the door opens. “I’ll make this all worth it.” She steps out first and looks behind her at his stunned face.
Bingo.
