Work Text:
“...You’re not upset with me, right?” Jirou asked, worried as she looked down, fumbling around with her hands. “I-I know that y-you love me and s-stuff, but…Valentine’s Day is supposed to be special, isn’t it?”
“I’m not upset with you at all, Kyouka,” Izuku smiled lovingly at her, running his fingers through her hair as they continued cuddling. “Valentine’s Day is special. That’s why I’m spending it with my special someone.”
“Y-You cornball…” Kyouka muttered to him, embarrassed as she leaned closer to him. As embarrassed as she was, she definitely wasn’t going to say no to cuddles from her Izuku. “...You’re my special someone too, you know.”
“I’m glad.”
“...But you’re really–”
“Yes, I’m sure, Kyouka,” he interrupted her worry. “I don’t mind that we’re not doing anything special today.”
“But we could go to a fancy restaurant or maybe to an amusement park or to a movie theater,” she brought up, which was a valid point.
“We could,” he conceded with a nod, gently kissing the top of her head as he brought it closer to his chest so she could listen more to his heartbeat. Not that she’d need any aid in doing so if she felt so inclined. “But would that make you happy?”
Jirou bit her lip, eventually shaking her head, “Is it okay if I don’t have the energy for that?”
“Of course it is, Kyouka,” Izuku lovingly whispered, kissing her again. “I love you in all your weathers, even the tired and drained one.”
Jirou pouted as she looked up at him, even though she kept an ear to his chest to listen to his rhythmic heartbeat, “You’re way too sweet to me, Izuku.”
“Nah,” he simply denied, making her pout even more.
She turned her gaze back to normal, which was literally just at the wall as she continued listening to his heartbeat. Normally, she wouldn’t really have an opinion on the heartbeats of others.
…Man. She never thought that she’d be this type of person in a relationship. She thought that she’d be the type of person to be a bit more distant and casual, but still loving. A sort of softer love.
But, man, as she listened to his heartbeat, which was quite literally a regular heartbeat that didn’t have an odd rhythm to it, she couldn’t help but love its sound. And she knew it, man. She knew it wasn’t anything else that made her love it so much other than the fact that it was Izuku’s.
“...I love you too, you know,” she eventually went back to his previous point. “And I want you to know that I’m so glad that you love me back.”
Izuku only smiled at that, holding her closer.
And, right then and there, Jirou regretted that she loved Izuku so much.
Grrrr!
“...You’re so cute, you know~” Izuku complimented. “Is there anything you’d like me to get?”
“Wait, no, no, no, you’re not getting me food,” she denied, gently resting her hand on his chest. “No.”
“Awww, why not, Kyouka?” He pouted at her in response, and she blushed at the sight of it, because she knew she couldn’t resist whenever he gave her those cute pouty eyes!
“Because you don’t need to spend money on me,” Jirou explained.
“Just because I don’t need to doesn’t mean I don’t want to,” Izuku countered. “So…do you want food?”
Jirou kept pouting at him, and it was unfair, because he was right, but she wanted to push her narrative and be right, damn it!
Unfortunately for her, her stomach did, in fact, feel like having some good food, and she did, in fact, enjoy being able to be pampered by her boyfriend. It wasn’t like she was being evil, right?
Even more unfortunately for her, she wanted to spend time with him! She wanted to see him, to blow him tons of kisses!
“I wanna be with you,” she pouted. “And if you get food, that’s being very mean to me because I don’t get to see your face.”
She savored the way Izuku blushed.
But she did not savor the way that the gears in his head were clearly turning.
God damn it, why did she have to fall for such a smart cookie!
The first time that Izuku spoiled her today was with food.
Now, she definitely started to feel evil about all of this, because Midoriya had actively gone out of his way and left the building to grab her some food, literally to a restaurant on his own to get her grub, and he’d come back with the same smile he’d left with.
And, not only that, but he’d also been so kind to FaceTime her in the process so that she wasn’t left alone missing him! The two of them were talking the entire time! And because she’d told him that she was feeling tired and didn’t wanna go anywhere, he offered to grab the food himself so that she got the exact order she wanted, because he also knew what special things she would’ve wanted!
Now, as he walked back into his room, by the way, wearing his hoodies, he had food with him!
“...You’re way too nice to me,” Jirou muttered, a heavy blush on her face as she thought about just how much he was pampering her.
“Well, ahem…about that,” Midoriya cleared his throat, a sheepish look on his face. “...You remember when I said that I needed to go to the bathroom so I ended the call for a bit?”
Suddenly, Jirou wanted to take back every word she said.
“Are you actually evil?” She asked, her voice dripping with simultaneous hate and love for him at the same time.
Izuku cleared his throat again, though his sheepish look was replaced with one of pure affection, “I might be, but if this is what being evil is like, I might need to invest more into it.”
Jirou narrowed her eyes at him, even as she pulled his blanket further over her, “What did you do…?” For somebody who seemed like she was going to rip his head off (affectionately, of course), she sure was enjoying the fact that she was covered from head to toe in his belongings.
“So, while I was, you know, definitely using the bathroom, I may or may not have come across a fun little smoothie place…” Midoriya put down one bag of food, and held out another. “And I remembered all about how much you like blueberry smoothies…”
Jirou’s jaw dropped, “No. No, you didn’t.”
She snatched the bag away from him, clutching it tight before finally looking at it with a sharp movement only to see two smoothies in there. An avocado smoothie, which made sense, because Izuku loved avocados.
And a blueberry smoothie.
“...This is for you.”
She said it as if it was a demand, holding both smoothies out to him.
Only for him to respond with a sly smile, pushing the blueberry smoothie back to her and grabbing the avocado smoothie for her.
“You know how I don’t have the biggest appetite,” he teased as he took a sip from his smoothie. “And I know how you don’t like wasting food. But if you’d really like, I wouldn’t mind taking the blueberry smoothie from you. I know that you hate blueberry, right?”
She couldn’t resist glaring at him before holding the smoothie closer to her chest, her grip getting just a little bit stronger.
“...I hate you.”
“I love you too, Kyouka,” he laughed as he finally sat down. “And I love you so much that I got you your favorite food, too, and I made sure that your favorite utensils were washed for when we ate.”
“F-F–I didn’t tell you I had favorite utensils!” She squeaked out, embarrassed at the fact that he even knew about that. Had he really been paying that much attention to her?!
…
Part of her felt really special that he thought she was worth so much to him that he wanted to pay all that attention to nobody except her.
…
Man. It was nice to have so much faith in Izuku as a partner like that.
“You didn’t have to, Kyouka,” he lightly laughed as he handed them over to her. “Whenever you’re in my room, you’ve literally sifted through my utensils before to get the ones you want.”
Kyouka pouted at him, “You weren’t supposed to know that.”
“Are you actually upset with me?” Izuku prompted her, and she shook her head, pouting even harder.
“No, but I’m flustered, so it doesn’t matter!”
“If you say so, Kyouka.”
A Few Minutes Later…
The second time that Izuku spoiled her today was with chores.
“You did your laundry earlier, Izuku?” Jirou casually remarked as she was eating, pointing her chopsticks in the direction of his laundry basket.
Midoriya swallowed, before grabbing a little sip of his avocado smoothie and then responding, “Yeah, I wanted to get it done yesterday since I knew that the two of us would probably be spending a lot of time together today. That way I could fully focus on you, you know?”
If she was drinking something, she probably would’ve choked on it. It was so unfair, how he was casually dropping lines that were actually super sweet in nature, but at the end of the day, he didn’t even know that they were sweet because it was just who he was!
“Have you done yours yet?” He turned the prompt around and asked her, only to receive a head shake.
“Nah, I’m saving that for later,” Jirou hummed. “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’ve kinda felt a little lazy recently.” She tried to stay a little calm from the fact that he’d dropped that line before asking that question, but by the way that she felt that little bit of heat in her cheeks, she knew she wasn’t doing too hot at that.
…
“Uh, Izuku?” She asked after finishing another sip of her smoothie. “You gonna say something?” For whatever reason, he’d gone a little quiet, as if processing something. Was the laundry that deep to him?
Nah, it couldn’t be. She was overthinking it for sure. He was probably just a little out of it considering how delicious the food was, and she couldn’t blame him. She was probably a little dazed from the delicious meal, too.
So, she just let it slide, and continued eating while talking with Izuku. Luckily, right now, she’d decided to take the blanket off, but still continue wearing his hoodie. She was willing to get a piece of clothing dirty, because that was normal, but getting a blanket dirty was something she wasn’t willing to risk right now, because she knew just how tedious it could be to clean that properly.
Then, only a few minutes later of talking, the topic had switched over to videogames. Izuku had apparently gotten into the Tekken series, because Iida (surprisingly enough) had been the one to recommend it, as fighting games apparently helped train reaction time in a safe environment.
Now, as she did her research, she was personally of the opinion that no series needed more than 50 games in it (she specifically thought of the Mario games when she stated that), but that was neither here nor there.
Now, their video game tastes were rather different from one another, and she knew it. She also knew that she was lucky that Izuku was a lot more flexible in which games he played compared to her, because he also took interest in the games she liked to play, whereas she found it harder to get into the games that he found fun.
(Some part of her found one idea incredibly amusing. That idea, of course, was that somebody got their ass kicked in a game, and the person kicking their ass was quite literally All Might’s successor. How absurd would it be, getting your shit rocked in a video game by the next Number One Hero?)
Either way, the point was that the topic of video games was relevant because Izuku was pulling out his laptop right now while they were eating.
“You wanna watch somethin’?” Izuku suggested as he opened the laptop up. “I remember you wanted to watch that one video essay from that one video game, right? Disco Elysium?”
Of course, Jirou wasn’t the type to actually play video games, despite the efforts or her friends (namely Kaminari, most of all) to get her to do so. That said, she could absolutely understand the appeal of how video games were uniquely equipped to tell stories in certain ways, and how their mechanics could be manipulated to enhance certain aspects of them. In a way, she liked the game design and its products rather than the gameplay, something that, again, Kaminari just couldn’t envision her properly appreciating the former without appreciating the experience of the latter.
All that to say, really, Jirou was very good at roping him into watching content about games she was starting to get into, and man, this one was something she absolutely loved. She couldn’t recommend it enough, honestly.
So, as Midoriya pulled up the video for them to watch, one that was abnormally long (by normal standards, not by video essay standards), both him and Kyouka got comfortable, having finally finished their food. They’d both gotten under one of his blankets, and they were both laying on his bed while watching the video.
They made a little small talk while the video was going on, though it was mainly remarks about certain things the video had actually said, or things that it’d reminded them of. During that, they always made sure to pause the video, because they wanted to make sure they could give full attention to one another. It really enhanced the experience for them, because it was them spending time together watching it, not just happening to be together while the video was on.
However, after a few minutes…
“I’ll be back in a bit, mmkay?” Midoriya smiled and gave her a kiss on the cheek, which she happily accepted. “I’m just gonna use the bathroom.” He stood up and stretched for a bit before starting to leave.
“You sure you’re not tricking me again and you’re gonna secretly grab me more treats?” Jirou joked, and he laughed. She took that as her cue to get back to watching the video, and felt a light thud on her back before hearing footsteps walking away.
Huh. Must’ve just been him patting her back lightly.
…
It’s important to realize that Midoriya did not provide a response.
Jirou did not realize that.
So, after a few minutes passed, a few minutes too many to be either a piss or even taking a dump, Jirou started to get a little suspicious, but distracted herself further by buying more into the video essay that she’d been watching.
Until, of course…
“Wait, where’d he go?” Jirou blinked, having snapped out of her stupor and realizing that Izuku was, in fact, not in his room anymore.
She started to stand up before she realized that she wasn’t just wearing one blanket, but three! That was what’d actually thudded on her back earlier!
…
“That asshole!” She cursed, because he’d taken advantage of one of her weaknesses! Being warm in his blankets! God DAMN it!
Eventually, she was able to stand up (after about another minute of realizing how coooozy she was), and made her way to the door, flinging it open and sticking her head out.
She looked to the left.
Nothing. Nothing except and evil aura emanating out of Mineta’s room, but…that was always going to be there, even after they graduated from U.A.
Then, she looked to the right.
And there he was.
Izuku Fucking Midoriya.
Holding…
“NO!” She shrieked at him. “YOU DID NOT!”
He only smirked teasingly at her, nodding, “I sure did.”
Because Midoriya Izuku was, in fact, holding her now empty basket that she used to hold her dirty laundry.
“Why did you do my laundry?!” She glared at him, because he just had that loving smile on his face and clearly giving her all his love even in his smile, and GOD, he was just so sweet and, ugh, she had the best boyfriend ever! It was unfair!
“‘Cause you said you were feeling too lazy to do it right now, so I thought I would take care of it for you so it doesn’t build up too much!” Izuku chirped, still happy as ever as if he didn’t just commit the sin of being too sweet to her while the two of them were madly in love with one another.
“You said you were going to the bathroom!” She pointed a finger at him in an accusatory fashion, and he nodded.
“And I did! I went to the bathroom, and then I just happened–” he accentuated that with a dramatic shrug. “-To get lost and accidentally end up near your room, and it just happened–” he accentuated it with another shrug. “-That I remembered about your laundry, so I decided to do it while I was already out!”
“...Evil,” she pouted at him.
“Again, I’d gladly be evil if it meant I could spoil you like this,” Izuku smiled at her, blowing her a kiss that she begrudgingly returned. “So, what’d I miss in the video?”
The third time Izuku spoiled her was with a treat.
A rather expensive treat.
“Izuku, there is NO way that I’m letting you do that,” Jirou put her hands on her hips, doing her best to keep her resolve.
Her eyes darted between his laptop and his eyes, and she looked like a goddamn cartoon character trying to resist the smell of some equally cartoony apple pie.
Her voice was shaky as she kept denying, “Izuku, no. I’d feel horrible if you did that!”
“Why not, Kyouka?” Izuku couldn’t help but smile. “I was saving up just for this, you know.”
Jirou only sputtered, turning more red by the second, “N-N-No, you weren’t!” It was a faulty defense that had literally no basis to it, because she had literally no way to tell him legitimately what he was using his hard-earned money on.
“Yeah, I was,” he shut down that thought process. “I was saving up so I could buy us some concert tickets for three months from now. They’re supposed to come within a few kilometers of U.A., right?”
“Just because they are doesn’t mean I have to attend!” Jirou lied through her teeth, because, yes, she did have to attend. She had already planned to ask her parents if they could get her any work opportunities so she could save up to get them, but here Izuku was, already ahead of her!
Of course, her lie didn’t get past him, who only shot her with a raised eyebrow, “Put that on somebody’s soul.”
“Kaminari’s. Done.”
“Put it on Uraraka-san’s soul.”
“No.”
“There we go,” Izuku smirked triumphantly at her, and she only could sulk in defeat at the fact that he’d read her like a book.
“...You don’t have to come with me, you know,” Jirou muttered. “Or I could just pay for my own ticket and you pay for yours…”
Again, a defense that didn’t work because it completely went against the precedent, and, man, Jirou never regretted what she chose to ask Izuku out on a first date to. She couldn’t believe that wanting their first date would be treating him out to a concert would backfire like this!
(No, she would not take criticism of the first date choice being geared towards her. They’d already confessed, so boom, suck it, they already knew they liked each other by this point!)
“Orrrr I could pay for both of our tickets,” Izuku offered. “If that’s too much for you, then I can just pay for yours and not go.” He tried keeping the satisfaction out of his voice, but it failed, because Jirou knew what he was going for, and she knew that he was aware of what he was doing, too!
“No,” Jirou repeated for what must’ve been the billionth time today, though she was no more upset by it than she was at the start. The only thing she was feeling when she said it was utter love and affection, because she was saying it not out of a place of malice, but out of a place of concern for him and his time. “If I’m going to a concert, then I’m going to it with my wonderful boyfriend, mmkay?”
For as many losses as she was taking today, she would gladly take the win that was being able to make him blush like that.
Not that it mattered, because even as he blushed, he took advantage of her wording, “So then we’re both going, which means I’m taking care of the tickets, right?”
Jirou sputtered, indignant, “Where on Earth did you get that from?!”
A moment of silence sat between them, even as they still stared into each other’s eyes.
“...Seriously, Kyouka, I would love to treat you out to this concert, and I wouldn’t spending money on it,” Izuku gently smiled at her, and she knew he was telling nothing but the truth. He genuinely, from the bottom of his heart, wanted to treat her out to the concert tickets, and she knew that, from the bottom of his heart, he did it all because he wanted to see her happy.
She stayed silent for a little longer before eventually grumbling, “Are you sure, Izuku?”
“100%,” he confirmed, and his voice didn’t waver.
Another moment, filled with quiet consideration.
“...I love you so much, Izuku.”
“I love you too, Kyouka.”
“No.”
Izuku tried sidestepping her, but Jirou was playing some elite defense, not letting him get past.
“But, Kyouka, I–”
“No, you don’t need to go out,” Jirou denied him yet again. “What you need to do is to cuddle me!”
“But–”
“No buts!” She shut him down once more. “You’ve been spending alllll day pampering me and treating me out to things and doing super nice things to me, and it’s super unfair, because you’re the best boyfriend ever!”
“Nuh uhhhh,” he tried convincing her, unsurprisingly to no avail.
“You’ve spoiled me three separate times today, Izuku,” Jirou pointed out, her hands on her hips once again. “Food, laundry, and concert tickets?!”
“Hey, those just all happened to come along,” Izuku defended himself weakly, and it was weak because he couldn’t conceal a single bit of the truth from being revealed on his expression.
“And I just happen to need kisses and cuddles!” She pointed her jacks threateningly at him.
“Well,” Izuku started, trying to get by her again before he realized that he would not be able to get by her successfully with the presence of her jacks. “I need to go get you some brownies from downstairs! Sato-san already baked them!”
“And why can’t I go?!” Jirou crossed her arms, standing still in front of the door as her jacks still hovered threateningly.
“Because I wanna be nice to you!”
“Then be nice to me by kissing me and cuddling with me!”
“You just don’t want me spoiling you!”
“Mhm!”
…
The fake tension remained in the room as Izuku did a few more experimental movements, trying to test certain possibilities, before, finally, he sighed in defeat, lowering his arms and getting out of his stance.
“You wanted kisses and cuddles too, didn’t you?” Jirou teased as her jacks lowered back to their normal stance, and she walked up to Izuku and embraced him in a loving hug.
“I diddddd,” he moaned dramatically as he melted into her arms. “I wanted to be in your arms from the first time you brought it up.” As he melted, the two of them eventually transferred over to where his bed was, and the two started cuddling there, with Jirou holding his head against her chest this time around.
Then…Jirou started her attack.
“So does that mean I can spoil you now?” Jirou half-teased.
“Nope,” he answered as he popped the ‘p’ there, but unfortunately for him, he’d thought that it was full-teasing, and not half-teasing. As a result, he wasn’t ready for the next part of the assault.
“I don’t think I was actually asking, My Number One,” she smirked, and from there, Midoriya knew that he’d lost the battle he didn’t even know he was part of. “I’m going to spoil you now, okay?”
Midoriya furrowed his eyebrows, before he felt Jirou’s forearm clench a little, so he squirmed around a little to flip around so that they were spooning, with him being the little spoon.
Only to come face to face with Jirou’s phone.
Open to his favorite website that he used to grab new hero merch that was being released.
His eyes widened, and his heart dropped, “No.” His voice was quiet and breathless, but agonized nonetheless.
“Yes,” she answered, and he could hear the satisfaction in her voice. Even if he wasn’t looking at her face right now, he could imagine the smug smirk plastered on it.
Izuku tried to defend himself, “Kyouka, you don’t need to spend money on me.”
He could tell that she was being even more satisfied as she shot back, “Just because I don’t need to doesn’t mean I don’t want to.”
All of a sudden, he could feel the regret surging through his body, because he vividly remembered telling her that exact phrase when he realized that she was hungry.
“You said you wanted kisses and cuddles!” Izuku moaned again, still dramatic as before, but she only nodded.
“And I did! I wanted cuddles, and then I just happened–” it was pure evil, the way that she shrugged the same way that he did when justifying his laundry trip earlier. “-To open my phone and I just happened–” again, a purely evil shrug of malice (love) and hatred (affection). “-To come across the website you buy your hero merch from!”
He blushed further, both out of realization that she was turning the tables on him and from the kindness she was showing him.
Then, she was silent for a moment before assuring him, “...Seriously, Izuku, I would love to treat you out to some hero merchandise, and I wouldn’t mind spending money on it.” She gently smiled down at him in her arms, and he knew that she was genuinely telling the truth. She legitimately, from the bottom of her heart, wanted to buy him some merchandise solely because she wanted to make him happy.
“...Are you sure, Kyouka?”
“100%,” she confirmed.
Another moment of silence, filled with quiet consideration.
“...I love you so much, Kyouka.”
“I love you too, Izuku.”
Yet another moment of silence sat between them.
“...Happy Valentine’s Day, Izuku,” she whispered to him.
“Happy Valentine’s Day,” he whispered back as she buried her face in his hair, holding him close for just a moment longer before she pulled just a little bit away, but still holding him in her arms.
“So, what do you want?”
“...Well, if you’re sureeeeee, then…”
Jirou may have taken quite a few losses to Izuku, who’d been one step ahead for all of today.
But she was more than willing to take those losses if it meant that she could get this big win on him.
Because, just as he loved spoiling her, she absolutely loved spoiling him, too.
