Chapter 1: Finding Her

Chapter Text

It was just like any other day within the Pitt. The doctors and nurses were dealing with their usual barrage of patients. The medical students trailing after the residents, occasionally helping Robby with a patient as well.

But that's when it all changes. That's when Robby feels it. The pull. The exact same pull when he met Jack, his first soulmate. And it's coming from the ambulance bay.

Without thinking twice, he acts. As both the doctor: the attending, and as this patients soulmate.

"Dana," he calls to the charge nurse as he makes his way towards the bay, putting on gloves and a gown. "Call Jack, tell him he needs to come in. They're here."

He doesn't need to say anything else, doesn't even need to look back at Dana. He knows that she'll understand what he means. He's known for years now, she understands the situation, she'll make sure Jack comes in.

He makes it to the doors just in time for the paramedics to wheel the bed into the emergency room. That's when he finally gets to lay his eyes on her, on his and Jack's missing soulmate. He has to force himself to focus on the reason behind why she was brought in.

He quickly scans her over, it takes less then a second for him to see the root of the injury. She has a large laceration on her left shin, that is actively excessively bleeding. He places his hands over the wound, in an attempt to stop the bleeding as they transfer her onto a hospital bed.

"Perlah," he calls out, "start an IV with saline. Mel, take over applying pressure to the laceration." He quickly goes to work, even thought the injury is not fatal. This is still his soulmate, and he is still going to do everything he can for her.

Ten minutes later; they have her laceration stitched up, a steady IV drip of saline, and have her cover in thermal blankets. Seeing as she had a slightly lower than normal temperature. They expected her to wake up soon. And that's when Jack walks in, a panicked look on his face.

"Robby," he breaths out, quickly making his way over to stand next to the other man. "How is she? What's wrong?"

He doesn't even need to say that he feels the pull too. The only thing that matters in this moment is if their soulmate is okay. Neither of them could imagine loosing her so soon after finding her.

Robby places a gentle hand on Jack's shoulder, "It's alright. She had a two inch laceration and lowered temperature. We have her all stitched up, on an IV drip, and under a thermal blanket. She should be up soon."

Jack nods, taking Robby's hand for comfort. He gently drags the other man over to the bedside chairs. Dana had called in another attending physician to take over for Robby. Allowing both of the men to focus on their new found soulmate.

They both sit in silence next to each other for a moment, simply allowing themselves to process what is going on. That's when they see her hand twitch on the bed. They both immediately perk up, knowing it's better than to immediately crowd her.

After a moment her eyes flutter open, and she lets out a small groan. She studies the room for a moment before her gaze lands on the two men sitting at her bedside.

"What," she starts, her throat dry from unuse, she clears her throat before attempting again. "What happened? Where am I?" She questions.

Jack quickly speaks up, using a more gentle tone then he normally would use with other patients. "You're at the Pittsburgh Trauma Center. You had an accident, but it's okay. You had a cut, which required stitches, and are also on an IV to help give you fluids."

She blinks at them for a moment, before slowing nodding. She takes a deep breath, grounding herself. It takes a few moments, but then she's finally calm enough to recognize a sensation she had never felt before.

It feels like something inside of her is begging for her to reach out to the two men. It feels like finally being able to have a drink from your water bottle after practicing your program. It's like a fire that it's only just been lit, but a fire that makes everything feel safe.

Wait. This was always how her mother described the pull of finally meeting your soulmate was like. Does that mean?

No.

There's no way.

"Are, are you my soulmates?" She breathes out shakily.
