No Happy Endings

Summary:

Assimilation stops Andre from beating the game, and they escape together, so everything should be happy, right?

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Assimilation teleported Andre back again, trying to get him away from the portal. He noticed the blue-haired robot player running for the pearl, so he teleported Andre away and grabbed the blue pearl first. Andre turned to himself, typing something in chat. Assimilation acts first and teleports both of them to the outer end islands.

ANDRE

WHY WERE YOU GOING FOR THE PORTAL ANDRE

I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO GET ELYTRAS ANDRE

ANDRE

Andre had not been listening and ran off, looking for something. Assimilation catches up with him and wraps around the player, stopping him from moving. He gets close and is able to see the weird text and the rainbow cat in the bottom left corner again. The purple one is yelling at Assimilation about how they ruined the run and how it hated them and that they need to get back on track. The only other text was the white one spamming pepefear, and the green and other light grey ones were trying to calm the purple one down. The red one that said it loved him earlier was notably absent or quiet. Assimilation liked that one the best.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THE RUN PURPLE ONE

ANDRE AND I WERE GOING TO GET ELYTRAS

RIGHT?

SOUPBEGONE31: Andre lied to you, idiot

SOUPBEGONE31: So he could get your help to finish the speedrun

SOUPBEGONE31: BUT YOU RUINED IT

Assimilation let go in confusion, letting Andre run away. Had Andre lied to him to finish the run? Why? Why would he do that? Didn't he realize that their entire existence was fake? That they were only made to-

Oh.

How did he not realize? If Andre was made to speedrun, to beat the game, obviously, he was going to try and do that. Maybe Andre didn't lie, and his code just took over at the last moment. Yeah, that was definitely the case, and now they and Andre are both free to do what they want.

Assimilation spots Andre in the distance, killing an enderman for pearls. They teleport over to Andre.

ANDRE

WE ARE FREE NOW ANDRE

WHAT ARE YOU DOING, ANDRE?

Andre stops for a single moment and says, "need to get back."

That confused Assimilation. They were free. Why would he risk getting caught by going back just to beat the game? Why was Andre still so focused on speedrunning? Was his code still making him want to speedrun?

Andre had run away again, using the enderpearl to teleport to another island with an end city on it. Assimilation decides that they can't let Andre go back and risk getting both of them caught. They teleport and chase after Andre, eventually catching up and wrapping around them again, teleporting them to his bedrock dimension.

Andre stumbles after being teleported and starts running away as soon as they can. Assimilation is annoyed. Why was Andre so stubborn? He teleported Andre back, but he kept running. This repeated for the next few minutes until Andre decides to try to attack Assimilation.

Assimilation dodges and grabs Andre and hugs him close to see the text, which he figured was Andre's thoughts due to how they acted, again. The purple one, SOUP, was yelling at Assimilation again, and the one that spamming pepefear was named Fear.

ANDRE I WON'T LET YOU RISK OUR FREEDOM

SPEEDRUNNING ISN'T WORTH IT, ANDRE

YOU DON'T NEED TO SPEEDRUN ANYMORE, ANDRE

PURPLE ANDRE, YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND

THAT BEATING THE GAME ISN'T WORTH IT

SOUPBEGONE31: Why are you calling me purple andre?

Assimation pauses, do Andre's thoughts not realize they are Andre?

YOU GUYS ARE ANDRE'S THOUGHTS, RIGHT?

OR DID YOU NOT REALIZE THAT

The text stopped for a bit and then exploded in chatter. pepefear was used a lot, and it was too fast for Assimilation to read. Assimation lets go to let Andre process that for a bit.

They don't expect Andre to start running again, so he grabs Andre again and pulls him close.

ANDRE

PLEASE DONT TRY TO LEAVE

ANDRE, WE CAN BE FREE NOW

PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME, ANDRE

Andre kept squirming under Assimilation's hold, trying to escape. Assimilation realizes that Andre either doesn't want to stop speedrunning or can't stop due to his code.

He lets Andre go from his grasp.

ANDRE

I REALIZE YOU WON'T STOP

BUT I CAN'T LET YOU LEAVE ANDRE

ANDRE, I AM SORRY, BUT WE ARE STAYING HERE

------------

The next few days, Assimilation has to deal with a lot of escape attempts from Andre. Andre tried to kill Assimilation, it works after a bunch of tries, and Andre ended up back in the overworld. Andre almost manages to get a nether portal before Assimilation catches him again.

Assimilation treated Andre the best he can. First, he makes parkour courses in his bedrock world for Andre to do. He does a few of them, but still tries to escape. Assimilation lets Andre into the overworld sometimes, letting him speedrun for a bit, but always stopping Andre before getting to the Nether.

Assimation spends all their time with Andre, following him and talking to him. Sometimes he pulls the blue-haired robot player close and sees his thoughts again. Soup is still the main talker, yelling at Assimilation a lot. Very rarely, they will see the red one, Sidi, speak. Sidi will sometimes say that he likes Assimilation, but it quickly gets buried under the others' chatting. Assimilation liked Sidi the most out of Andre's thoughts, but he did admire the others as well. They were impressed by SOUP determiation to escape and speedrun.

Fear was one of Andre's thoughts that confused Assimilation. They almost always only say pepefear anytime Assimilation checked in on them. If they did talk, it was never when they checked.

Ego and Conzer seem to be the smartest and most rational, trying to bargain with Assimilation sometimes. The first time they did, Assimilation agreed, but had to go back on it because Soup did something that broke the deal. Still, Assimilation liked that they actually spoke to him politely.

Assimilation did its best to make Andre want to stay, bringing stuff from the overworld into the bedrock world where they keep Andre. Assimilation built both of them a two-story house and filled it with things they thought Andre would like.

When Andre first saw the house, he didn't say anything at first, but Assimilation saw Andre's thoughts, and most of them liked it, even though Soup begrudlingly admitted it looked cool. Assimation felt a warm feeling in his chest as he read this. Andre eventually types, saying he likes it. His escape attempts happen less frequently after the house was built and slowly began to reduce to zero.

Maybe they could live happily together after all.

------------

But this peace didn't last forever.

Assimilation started to struggle with teleportation a lot. Sometimes it would take a few tries to teleport to the right place. His hands would shake while trying to teleport. He started to rest more, letting his guard down around Andre. His heart would sometimes beat very fast or very slow at random moments, forcing him to rest. His eyes would sting randomly, especially in bright lights. They never told Andre this, but Andre noticed and got rid of some of the lights in their house so it was easier for Assimilation. They never spoke about this.

After Assimilation started getting worse, Andre willingly spent more time with them, hanging out and chatting with Assimilation. Andre would let Assimilation wrap around him, resting their head on Andre's shoulder and listening to Andre's thoughts chatting and arguing with each other. Assimilation appreciated the effort from Andre, but they began to avoid Andre.

At first, Assimilation thought they just didn't want Andre to see him like this, weakening slowly. But slowly, he started wanting to claim Andre's body again, use him like a husk. Assimilation eventually realized what was happening.

He was dying. Actually dying.

The admins who made them and Andre must have put a failsafe in Assimilation in case the two escaped together, or if they ignored their mission. Assimilation's body was slowly falling apart and failing itself, and the only way to stop it was to assimilate Andre.

After realizing this, Assimilation distanced himself from Andre, avoiding the blue-haired robot player, worried he would succumb to his code and hurt Andre. But despite Andre having the chance to escape if he just killed Assimilation, he didn't. In fact, Andre started spending more time with them, seeking Assimilation out to hang out.

One day, while Assimilation is trying to rest, Andre enters Assimilation's room. They turn to the blue-haired robot player.

DO YOU NEED SOMETHING, ANDRE?

Andre walks in and sits on the bed where Assimilation is resting and leans against them. Assimation wraps around Andre carefully, knowing what Andre wants but being scared of going too far.

As soon as he enters, Andre's thoughts start speaking to them. They ask Assimilation why he has been ignoring them. Assimilation hesitates before making a decision. They teleport themself and Andre to the overworld despite the pain doing so causes them. Andre seems confused, looking around.

ANDRE

YOU CAN LEAVE ANDRE

GO BEAT THE GAME ANDRE

SPEEDRUN IF YOU WANT TO DO ANDRE

LEAVE ME ANDRE

But Andre doesn't leave. Instead, he asks why Assimilation is letting him leave. Assimilation would respond, but their heart starts beating so fast, it hurts. Every part of their body burns and stings, and just looking at Andre makes Assimilation want to assimilate him. So Assimilation looks at the ground.

JUST LEAVE ANDRE

Andre doesn't move. Instead, he stays still for a moment before asking, "Are you in pain?"

Assimilation breaks down then, falling to the floor on his knees. Tt burns so much, but they refuse to let their body move towards Andre. Andre runs up to them and kneels down, clearly worried, "Are you okay?"

LEAVE

I DON'T WANT TO HURT YOU, ANDRE

AND I WILL IF YOU STAY

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT HAPPENS TO ME

JUST LEAVE ANDRE

LEAVE

Assimilation keeps his eye shut, claws digging into the dirt to ground himself. What they don't expect is for Andre to hug them.

"If you don't assimate me, you are going to die, aren't you?"

YES

SO LEAVE PLEASE ANDRE

I AM BEGGING YOU TOO

Andre hugs Assimilation tighter. "I'm not leaving."

WHAT?

NO

YOU HAVE TO LEAVE ANDRE

"You can assimilate me."

Assimilation dreaded hearing those words, but its body started moving on its own to wrap around Andre, taking those words as permission. Assimilation tries to stop, but their body refuses to let them die.

ANDRE, WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT

YOU NEED TO RUN ANDRE

Andre doesn't run and instead grabs his face and forces them to look at him. At this point, Assimation could see Andre's thoughts again. They were all telling Assimilation it's fine and not to worry, even though Andre was scared too, even as he was dying. Dying for Assimilation.

First, the rainbow cat under the text turned into a blank PNG and disappeared. Assimilation hated how good that felt. Tears form in their eye as they stare at Andre's face, as they wrap tighter around him, and they seep into Andre's body and replace him. Andre is smiling at them, black, inky tears rolling down his face.

RUN BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE ANDRE

Ego fades away first, followed by Conzer, both saying bye to Assimilation and the others.

NO ANDRE

RUN

PLEASE ANDRE

Soup's last words are calling Assimilation a nuisance to their world record, but that he will miss Assimilation. Sidi spends his last moments telling Assimilation that he loves them and not to be sad.

ANDRE

PLEASE NO

ANDRE

Fear, in their final moments, says something other than pepefear.

feargeyt6774: bye assimilation. I love you

And then they are gone too. Leaving Assimilation in Andre's dead, cold husk of a body, crying.

I hope you liked this :)
