Summary
Silco is one of those kids who spends his time as far Away From Home as possible. He gets into trouble constantly. He’s drunk, he’s high, he’s belligerent. He and the other no-goods he’s rolling with get it in their heads to ‘liberate’ some cows on what they think is the local dairy. They actually end up on Vander’s farm. Vander keeps guard dogs, and Silco, genius, climbs a tree to save himself from getting bitten. All his friends run off-property. Maybe they’re the slightest bit more sober, maybe they have places to go, people who might be wondering where they’re at if they spent a night in the local jail. Silco has no one.
Enter Vander, an old dog who raises bucking bulls for the rodeo. He’s got a bleeding heart and Silco’s just another stray he’s taking in. All of Vander’s feelings toward him are very fatherly. Completely platonic. Silco just needs a firm hand, and Vander happens to have two.

Like clockwork; check the time, numb the gums, wait for the bus, have a fag, start work, internally squirm under Vander’s undivided attention, make jaegerbombs on autopilot until his break, mood depending have a smoke out the back or a sneaky line in the bathroom, flirt shamelessly to no result, finish up and make the depressing early morning commute home.
Except nothing goes to plan tonight.
