Far Below Did It Live

Summary:

Winter finds a paper. (Added those strange things called "par-a-graphs" for something called "read-a-bility" or whatnot.)

Chapter 1: Short Intro

Chapter Text

It had been a short while sense his title was reinstated by Snowfall. He mostly spent his time at Sanctuary, communing with scavengers and conducting research. Every so often he did venture off to the Ice Kingdom, but it was infrequent. His home here sat next to the stream which ran down from the small tarn in the mountains. It was during his research he came upon a strange scavenger object.

It was the evening in Sanctuary, snow had recently fallen and there was a layer of fog covering the area. Winter was inside his somewhat-ramshackle house as he perused over some scavenger manuscripts at his desk in his study. One of them caught his eye. It was arcane in nature, strange sigils were written on it along with three pictures. One was of a black mirror, another was of a herb, the last one was of a jewel. He peered at it. He knew how to read scavenger decently well, some of the text he could make out, other parts he could not.

“An obsidian mirror, a bitter herb, and a… dark jewel?” He turned to his right and opened a drawer, he took out a small locked chest. Turning to his left he opened another drawer, he opened its false bottom and took out a key. Opening the chest with the key he pulled out the Obsidian Mirror. He had managed to convince Thorn to let him have it for short while, saying he would find it useful in his studies. Sometimes it was, other times it was disappointing, and it was always a hassle to find a willing dragon in Sanctuary to use it for him.

He put the mirror down next to the paper. “How could they have known… do the humans have something like this? No… must have seen a dragon use it.” He looked to the next item. A bitter herb, the one in the picture looked like wormwood. He had seem some around Sanctuary, but where? Next he looked at the drawing of the so called dark jewel. He scrutinized the drawing, looking at it if it was Qibli after he made another joke at him. It looked to be… black opal, rare. He thought to himself. He continued reading the text. “’Combine under the steady light of the north, of which only... precession effects. And there you shall be.’” He snorted sarcastically “How descriptive.”

He knew this light was the north star, and he knew that he would be visiting the Ice Kingdom soon so why not try it. Humans had no magic. “I’ll just test it out for the sake of it.” He said to himself.

It was the next morning when winter soaked himself in the stream by his home. Snow gently twirled down as he immersed himself in the cold, flowing waters. He cleaned his scales with the water and near by snow. He did not want the usual look of Sanctuary grime on him when he was visiting the Ice Kingdom. The early morning light wrapped itself around his scales as he cleaned off. After he was done he headed back to his house but was stopped as he noticed a herb sticking through the snow. He noticed it was the wormwood the paper requested. He plucked it from the ground and then entered into his house and started packing his things for his journey to the Ice Kingdom.
