Work Text:
Sage’s cold palms press into Reyna’s chest, sinking against the fabric of her uniform. What once glowed a familiar violet light had faded into nothing. The monk’s heart pounds so hard it feels like she has to chase it across the sanctuary.
No.
She can’t be—
Crystals begin forming along the healer’s arms, crawling up her spine. They push through her skin like blades, sharp and merciless. She grits her teeth and forces her power forward once more.
Nothing.
The healer remembers how vibrant and lively Reyna is. Now her face is pale. Cold and still. Something Sage is not comfortable seeing, even if she’s seen her team mates like this many times. Sage’s vision blurs. Tears spill down her cheeks as she tries to call her resurrection. It flickers weakly between her hands, dimming with every attempt. She is getting weaker.
But she doesn’t stop.
Throughout her lessons in the monastery, she practiced how to stay calm through any storm.
This isn’t a storm. It’s a nightmare.
Countless hours passed, the monk’s attempts to revive the queen were never successful. Sage sobbed violently against Reyna’s chest, pain shooting through her body from the crystals that had spread across her skin. Hearing Killjoy’s cries crack in the background only made it worse. It felt hopeless.
What should I do?
Panic clawed at Sage’s mind. All those years in the Valorant Protocol, leading younger agents, guiding them to stay calm through the fight — and now her mantra felt useless. The healer couldn’t bear to look at Reyna. The air was cold, thick with smoke. Sage inhaled deeply, exhaled slowly, grounding herself as she focused on her trembling hands.
“Reyna, I won’t leave you — even if it kills me” she whispered, tracing her fingers carefully along Reyna’s cheek.
Sage's heart felt hollow, but she couldn't afford to be. The monk placed her palms against the vampire’s body once more.
Drawing from the radiant energy deep within, jade light danced across her hands, and suddenly, hope filled the healer’s heart.
A weak gasp fell from Reyna's lips as her eyes fixed on her own trembling body. Sage's hands glowed with jade light, pouring every ounce of energy into the resurrection. The radiant energy shimmered around them, leaving trails in the air like faint glowing sparks. But the effort was too much. Sage began to fade, her body giving out, unsure when she might wake.
She barely managed to call out, “Reyna…” before collapsing. The healer slumped against Reyna’s chest, unconscious but alive. Her heartbeat, faint yet steady, pulsed like a drum beneath Reyna’s ear. The lingering glow from Sage’s jade energy wrapped around them both, warm and comforting, as if whispering that hope still lived.
