Work Text:

George was ill prior to the race weekend in Baku. By the time George and Charles arrived in Baku, the Brit still sounded really bad. A clip of George's voice from one of the practice sessions went online by Friday night. Charles cringed when he listened to George's voice. He sounded rough and tired. He made the point of spending time with his boyfriend in his hotel room on Friday night and mentioned it.

“I heard a clip from your own board earlier, you sounded rough.” Said Charles.

George laughed then coughed. Charles gave him a look that told him to take it easy.

“I'm fine, Charles.”

“I don't think you should be driving.”

George rolled his eyes.

“I'm sure Toto will insist I get checked out before Sunday and I'm sure I'll be cleared to race.”

Charles hummed.

“Just remember and take medication before bed.”

George smiled.

“I will.”

The following day was qualifying and Charles couldn't stop worrying about George. He met up with him for breakfast in the hotel and he looked pale and tired.

“Did you sleep well last night?” Asked Charles.

“I took a while to get to sleep.”

“You look tired.”

George sighed.

“I'll be fine, Charles.”

Charles refused to take his eyes off George as he ate slowly.

George did well in qualifying, he managed P5 in comparison to Charles who qualified P10. Charles was disappointed with his result but he was happy with George.

The Monegasque overheard George in the media pen. He still sounded rough. He made the decision there and then that he would spend the night with George.

George wasn't surprised when Charles turned up at his hotel room that night. He was surprised to find him holding a bag. He frowned.

“Why do you have your bag with you?” Asked George.

“I'm going to spend the night.”

Charles stepped into the room and threw the bag in the corner. George closed the door and turned to look at Charles.

“We had an agreement.”

“Yeah well, you're ill and I'm not leaving you on your own. You sounded bad in the media pen.”

“Charles, I am getting better. What if someone sees you leaving in the morning?”

“I'll be careful.”

George sighed but then he smiled.

“I can't get you to change your mind, can I?”

Charles smirked.

“I see I've won.”

George scoffed.

It wasn't long before Charles was making himself at home. He changed into some pyjamas and then made tea for himself and George. They lay in bed and watched the tv before they got settled to sleep. When he could see George getting tired, he rushed to grab some meds and made sure that George had some water. He watched as George took his medication and settled down in bed. Charles turned off the lamp and settled behind George who had rolled onto his side. It didn't take long for George to fall asleep. Charles smiled and leaned over to kiss George's temple before he lay back down and closed his eyes.

The following day was race day. George was able to get onto the podium as he finished P2. Charles was less bothered about his P9 finish and more bothered about George. The Brit had been really ill all weekend and had somehow finished on the podium.

Charles didn't get to see George until they met up in the airport. The Monegasque was finally able to give George a hug in the lounge that he had been waiting for all evening. Charles sighed into George's shoulder.

“I'm so proud of you, I'm glad this weekend is over and I can look after you.” Said Charles.

George laughed and pulled away.

“I can look after myself, Charles.”

Charles rolled his eyes.

“Its been a long weekend, let me look after you.”

George huffed.

“Fine, I'll let you look after me.”

Charles nodded happily.

“Let me get you a drink.”

“I can't argue with that.”
