Eye of the Beholder

Summary:

Emre and Freja are still navigating their relationship after reuniting. Now working for Talon, they are sent on a mission to take over a remote outpost.

Notes:

Hey all! This is an on-going work that I hope to update weekly! You won't be able to fully appreciate it unless you have a basic knowledge of the most recent Overwatch lore/story related to Emre and Talon, but I do my best to explain any relevant details. The romance of Emre and Freja is more of a slow-burn type of thing, so you'll have to wait a bit for any progress to be made. Hope you enjoy the fic! :D

Chapter Text

Chapter #1: New Mission

“Our biggest issue when taking over this lookout is the fact that our troops can't brute force their way inside. The base is protected either by the cliffs, mountains, or by these narrow tunnels.”

Vendetta pointed to two spots on the map at different sides of the base.

“Invece, if we were to send a small strike squad to infiltrate the base it could give our troops the opportunity to go through the tunnels without resistance.”

Vendetta looked up at all standing at the long table.

“Now, who will infiltrate the base?”

The room stilled. Domina broke the silence with, “Well darling, I don't think this is quite the job for one of my men,” taking a sip from her champagne glass, “Stealth isn't really our specialty dear.”

“A worthy consideration,” Vendetta said, “The Hashimoto would’ve been a good choice for this operation but I have them… preoccupied at the moment. In addition, they prefer to stay in their little corner of the world.”

She then turned to Emre.

“Emre, I will send you out with your little pet.”

Emre– no, it nodded. He would do as he was told.

“Shall I go now?” He said.

Vendetta smiled, “Why wait? I will arrange a plane to drop you and Freja near the site and give you some flairs. Once you have dealt with them, light the signal and our men will take over that base once and for all.”

He nodded once more and started walking towards the doorway.

“In bocca al lupo, Emre,” Vendetta said in a sinister tone.

Emre glanced back at Vendetta and replied,“Kurt ölecek,” before finally leaving the room.

Freja was pacing back and forth. She didn’t like Emre spending so much time with those Talon higher ups. They couldn’t be trusted, even for a moment. Freja was working with them for the moment, yes, but she preferred to keep her distance. Her only duty right now was to help Emre figure out what was going on with his… condition.

The door slid open and Emre walked in. The screen on his chest seethed with a red light in the dim room.  Freja halted, not wanting to worry Emre.“How was the meeting?” Freja and Emre were technically sharing a room, but the beds were on opposite sides along with two closets and a shared kitchen in the middle. Almost like a college dorm room, albeit much nicer. Vendetta would not have her top members in a subpar living environment.

“It went fine Frej, we just received another mission. We’re going to infiltrate a base in Finland to make way for her troops," Emre said.

Freja nodded, “How much is she paying?”

“Enough.”

Freja sighed; Emre always agreed to tasks no matter how measly the pay was in contrast to the danger it put them in. She didn’t want to pry, but she thought it might be because of the thing influencing him. Maybe even he didn’t realise.

“Any more leads?” Freja asked. They (mostly Freja) had been trying to do research into what entity or organization could’ve caused Emre’s condition, but nothing so far. After all, what else could you do other than search “Red Eye Brain Wash Organizations?” The people behind Emre’s new self were obviously good at covering their tracks, so Freja had decided to quit any Internet research and instead focus on anyone that could know something.

“Nothing. I can’t seem to focus whenever I try, anyway. It always slips my mind…” Emre said, his eyes glazing over.

“Hey, we’ll figure this out ok?” Freja stepped up to Emre and put a hand on his shoulder.

Emre smiled, a hint of anguish still lining his eyes, “Thank you Frej.”
