Chapter Text
Finns pov:
Today was a beautiful day; the sun was shining, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. It was a perfect day to go fishing. So I grabbed my fishing supplies and headed to my usual spot. It was a quiet spot, but I still liked it.
As I walked on the cobblestone path, each footstep made me slightly more excited that I could catch something today. I heard noise from the dock, I couldn't see because of the thick trees, so I walked over as quietly as possible, but the cobblestone path made it difficult. I pushed away the thick leaves that blocked my view. I almost gasped with excitement when I saw Shrimpo sitting at the edge of the dock, looking over the water. I walked over to him happily.
"Hello, there shrimpo! Nice day, huh?" I said, being friendly as always.
I tried my best to become good friends with him in the past, but it never fully worked, but today felt different!
"Yeah." He said, not even caring to spare me a look.
"Do you wanna fish with me?" I said, hoping that he would say yes, as I sat down next to him.
I could see his expression shift slightly from normal to surprise. He looked at me, trying to hide his surprise (it wasn't working)
"Yeah, sure, fine." he said, with a voice that tried to sound like his normal angry self, but failed.
I smiled, and handed him my rod and took the spare one that I always bring just in case. We both cast our lines in the sparkling water; the sun danced across the water as it rippled. For a few short moments, nothing happened, but then something exciting happened. Shrimpo's line was caught; it was a fish.
"Oh my cod! Did you catch one?" I asked, not believing my own eyes.
"Yes, I got it, and it's fine." he said as he reeled it in.
As he did, I watched the fish at the end of the line come out of the water. It was one of the biggest ones I've seen on a fishing trip. Then something unexpected happened; the fish somehow unlatched itself from the rod and flung itself toward us, and knocked over Shrimpo. In all my years of fishing, I have never seen anything like that before, so I was just staring for a few seconds before I realized I had to help him. I tried lifting the fish off of him, then the fish slapped my face and rolled off him it was so fast that I fell on top of Shrimpo. Sure, it was only for a second but, it was awkward. Shrimpo sat back up, looking at me and wrestled the fish into a cooler.
"Sorry about that, heh," I said awkwardly.
"Yeah, whatever..." he said, turning away.
But I noticed when he turned away, I could see a flicker of emotion on his face; It wasn't mad like usual, it was a smile. Shrimpo never smiles. Just seeing that made me smile a bit, too. I don't know why.
"Well, I think I'm going to go back now since the cooler can't hold anything else. Do you want to come with me?" I said, as I stood up, offering my hand.
"S-sure." his voice trembled slightly, trying to act mad but still failing.
We started walking back, and the silence felt painful, so I decided to start up a conversation.
"What should we do with it?" I asked.
"What do you normally do with the fish you catch?" he asked back.
I didn't have the heart to tell him that I've never caught anything before, so I just stayed silent, and the rest of the walk back was filled with more painful silence, but I couldn't think of anything else to say. What was there to say? We finally reached the doors of Garden View. I pushed them open, we walked in together, and as we entered I Heard a Voice chime from the darkness.
