Summary:

Obi-Wan meets Anakin’s strange little friend.

Chapter Text

Obi-Wan stepped onto the ship, taking his time as he walked to the cockpit. He rubbed tired eyes as he came to a stop behind the cockpit chairs. He could faintly hear the sound of talking, though his tired mind paid it no mind. For the past month, he’d had to leave Anakin behind on Coruscant to take care of some negotiations between two species on the brink of war. It’d been endless hours of treaties and negotiations and revisions. He felt dead on his feet.

Now however, the Council was requiring he travel to the Mid Rim. This time to take care of some pirates encroaching on a Republic-owned planet. The senator of said planet had quite literally submitted a request for aid before he walked into the council room. Just his luck.

Obi-Wan’s eyes fell upon a head of blonde. “Hello, Anakin.” He yawned, registering the faint sound of his padawan’s acknowledging hum. His eyes blinked and slid to the other head of blonde in the other chair. Huh? Obi-Wan couldn’t stop himself from speaking again, an instinctual reaction at this point. “Hello, Anakin…?” His tired eyes flicked between the backs of two heads. The chatter had slowed to a stop without him realizing. Both the sentients, in their respective chairs, turned back to face him with confusion written on their features.

There his padawan sat, almost innocently if Obi-Wan wasn’t aware of his true hellion nature. So it was Anakin. Question was, if this blonde was Anakin, who’s next to him—

“Who are you?” Obi-Wan blurted out as he finally let his gaze stop flickering between the two boys and settle on the unfamiliar one. He too sported sun-bleached blonde hair and blue eyes, similar to Anakin. In fact, the more Obi-Wan stared at him, the more his everything was similar to Anakin.

He watched the stranger perk up at being addressed. “Oh, I’m Luke! Hi.” He waved.

Obi-Wan couldn’t stop his face from twisting slightly. Who was this “Luke” and why was he here? Was this one of Anakin’s little friends? Obi-Wan had originally presumed his Padawan hadn’t much interaction with the crèche, initiates, or other padawans in his age group. While it did certainly did warm his heart to see Anakin making friends, again, why was this boy here?

Obi-Wan took a moment to study this “Luke” further. He wasn’t dressed in traditional Jedi robes, though to be fair, the clothes Jedi wore were more of a strong suggestion rather than a dress code. An example of this can come from his very own padawan, with Anakin wearing darker browns and some blacks layered atop more traditionally-colored brown underclothes.

His little friend meanwhile just looks like a sith.

“Luke” was wearing form-fitting black clothes, as well as knee high boots. No flowing robes, not the slightest speck of any color, though he does have a Jedi cloak at least. It’s a deep brown, nearly black as well. He looks exactly how the crèche lessons described a sith would. In fact, the only reason Obi-Wan was sure the boy wasn’t a sith apprentice, was that his light in the force was just as blinding as Anakin’s.

Obi-Wan slowly turned a questioning gaze to his padawan who responded in kind. “Master, this is Luke. While you were gone we… befriended each other?” Anakin sounded slightly questioning, looking over to Luke as if to confirm whether or not that was true. Luke simply nodded with a small smile, causing a bashful smile to spread across Anakin’s face in return.

Obi-Wan blinked a couple times at the similar smiles shared between both boys. His hand moved to rub his eyes. “Okay, while that is nice, why is Luke here?” He asked tiredly.

“Oh, well he’s a knight and he told me that he could just come along.” His padawan explained carelessly.

“I— No… that’s not how that works. He has to be assigned to the mission with us.” Obi-Wan explained. You couldn’t just insert yourself into a mission with other Jedi. Not unless invited at the very least!

Luke, Obi-Wan was starting to get the slightest inkling that the boy was a little dim, decided it was his turn to speak, “I thought knights could do whatever they wanted.”

Before Obi-Wan could even think to refute that, Anakin decided to step in. His padawan let out a lighthearted snort with a roll of his eyes. “Sure they can—” Soon after, Anakin started poking some fun at Luke, the other boy taking in Anakin’s words with a mix of offense and also intrigue. Who was this boy’s master that they allowed him to believe that?

Obi-Wan cleared his throat to interrupt the two’s bickering. He looked to Luke, unable to stop the slight concern from seeping into his tone. “Why exactly do even you think that?”

He simply shrugged. “Oh well, because Jedi are peacekeepers, right? So why should anything stand in the way of them keeping peace?” Out of the corner of his eye, Obi-Wan watched Anakin cock his head at the other boy’s logic before he pulled a face that suggested he was thinking. He then gave a conceding nod. Obi-Wan had to stop a sigh from leaving his lips. He was too exhausted for this.

”I can’t even begin to list how many things could go wrong if Jedi truly lived by that.” The master sighed. He closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath. It took a while, but he opened his eyes, trying to give Luke a patient smile. “Please get off this ship. As I’m sure he told you, Anakin and I have a mission to attend to.”

”So you’re saying I can’t come?” Luke asked, identical frowns of dissatisfaction blooming on both his and Anakin’s faces.

Obi-Wan ushered him out of the chair, to which Luke got up surprisingly willingly. “Yes, yes. You’ll see Anakin a week or so, don’t worry. We really must be going now.” Obi-Wan wanted to wrap this up as quickly as possible so he could lay down. Perhaps he could have a Anakin pilot on his own while he rested his eyes?

Both the master and padawan watched the knight walk away. Luke then briefly paused and looked back like a kicked bantha. He then walked forward a step, and looked back once more. Was he trying to guilt trip them?

”Master, are you sure we can’t take him with us?” Anakin asked from beside him. This entire interaction was very reminiscent of a child begging to take a pet home. “Does he not look quite pathetic?”

Ignoring the sound of Luke’s offense at that statement, Obi-Wan rolled his eyes. “No— Luke, we’ll see you in a week.” Both boys let out groans at that before the Jedi knight finally left. As soon as Obi-Wan was sure the boy was gone, he turned to the chair Luke previously sat in and took his seat. He cast a glance towards Anakin out of the corner of his eye. His hands moved to start flicking various switches and pressing various buttons. “So how’d the two of you meet?”
