Notes:

This is probably the quickest thing I've ever written. Inspiration struck and this fic was born within a week (for reference, I have another one that has been in the drafts for almost 3 months).

I edited this one pretty quickly so sorry if it's not too good but I just needed to get it out!! They are so cute :3

also I hate titles.

Work Text:

Toya wants to disappear off the face of the earth. Or maybe just curl up into a ball and cry. Except he can't because he has makeup on, and if it gets smudged, Mizuki might get mad at him.

Why does he have makeup on? Because today is his wedding day.

That's right. Wedding. Day. He's marrying Akito, the man of his dreams, and he kind of wants to die.

“Toya, lookie here real quick,” Mizuki says, taking a step back to evaluate the canvas (Toya's face). His worried grey eyes dart up to kind pink ones. He's glad Mizuki's his stylist - for free, even, because ‘it’s the least I could do on your special day!’, but also because if it were some random stranger, he would definitely be in full panic mode.

“You've got nice eyes, ya know that? Gotta really make ‘em pop!” Mizuki exclaims, going in again with a small brush and a smile, forcing Toya to close his eyes while powder is dusted over them. The feeling is unfamiliar but nice, and he lets out a little hum of affirmation.

He briefly wonders how Akito's doing. The redhead insisted that he could do his own makeup, but Mizuki gave him about a hundred details for how to match his look with Toya's. At the time, Toya trusted Akito. He still does, but the little ‘what if he gets it wrong?’ nags at his mind and adds to the mountain of other things that stress him out. And there's a lot of other things stressing him out.

What if there's a problem with the seating plan? What if he loses his vows, or just freezes up at the altar? What if it's boring? What if he's a bad husband? What if, what if, what if-

“Uh, Toya, you good?” Mizuki's voice pulls the man out of his spiral. He didn't realize he was staring so intently at the floor of the dressing room. “You look kinda… wound up.”

Toya almost implodes right then and there. If it's showing on his face, it must be bad. And if Mizuki noticed it, Akito definitely would, and then Akito would see how unfit he is to marry-

“Oh, sorry. I'm fine. You can continue.” He tries to keep his voice even. Mizuki gives him a long look before reaching for a different product on the side table.

“Worried?” The stylist asks, diverting the attention from his eyes to dab blush on his cheeks. Toya looks away.

“Mhm.” He fidgets with his hands. Due to the proximity, he can smell Mizuki's perfume. It's sweet, comforting enough to make him want to spill his thoughts into the welcoming silence. “Worried might be an understatement,” he mutters.

The brush on his face lifts, and those warm eyes are on him again. “Aw. Today's gonna be totally awesome, though. I know it.”

Toya swallows and manages a small shake of his head.

“No?” Mizuki asks with unwavering patience, as if consoling a small child. “What's on your mind?”

Shoot, he should have just agreed. With a shaky breath, Toya forces words out. “Um… Everything? There's just a lot that- that could go wrong, I guess.”

Mizuki frowns. “Well, I took a sneak peek at the food when I got here. You chose really well, ya know! And this venue is in-credible. Like, seriously pretty. I don't think it's possible for anything bad to happen in a place like this,” the brush is waved around in a vague gesture to the space.

Toya smiles. This should be making him feel better, but honestly, just thinking about the ceremony is stirring up anxiety. The venue is beautiful, and the food is great, and Toya knows he should be bursting with excitement but he just isn’t.

Tears gather on his waterline, and Mizuki's eyes widen. He forces them back by biting his lip so hard it nearly bleeds.

“Sorry, sorry,” he apologizes quickly, trying to maintain composure. This cannot be happening. He can't cry on what's supposed to be the best day of his life.

“Hey, don't cry. I know it's tough, but you're gonna be A-okay. I know it.” Mizuki says with a reassuring hand on Toya's shoulder.

“I don't know,” his voice wavers slightly. “I don't know what I'm doing. I don't want to disappoint him.”

“Hey, wanna know something?” Mizuki leans in as if exposing a secret. “Akito is down bad for you. I don't think anything you do could ever make him love you less.”

It's true… probably, but no amount of logic can save this. Today needs to go perfectly, because Akito was looking forward to this like a kid on Christmas. If it isn't perfect, he'd be so upset, and Toya would be a crappy husband for doing that. He can't help it though; his thoughts are running wild, and he's already ruining the day by thinking about other things that could ruin the day, and who wants to marry a jittery mess who thinks like that?

When Toya doesn't say anything, the pinkette sighs. “Do you want me to get Akito?”

His head snaps up, and a fresh wave of tears threatens to spill.

“No!” He says a little too loudly before correcting his tone. “No, please don't get Akito, I'll be fine.”

There's no way Akito will see him like this. Akito would hate seeing him panic so badly. God, Toya's officially the worst partner in the world. He blinks quickly, trying to clear his vision, but it only encourages more wetness to gather.

Mizuki glances down at Toya's shaking hands, then up to his face where tears threaten to ruin his makeup. After a moment of thought, the stylist stands. Toya watches with an unchanging expression.

“I'll get something that'll make you happier, ‘kay?” Mizuki says with that same warm, comforting smile. Toya hesitates. What could possibly make him feel better right now? He supposes Mizuki is good enough with people to work some kind of magic, but there's absolutely no saving this mood. He's done for.

“Just trust me,” Mizuki adds, as if sensing the internal debate. There's no room to object when, with three quick strides, the door is flung open and the swishing pink ponytail disappears behind it.

Left to bask in his ever-expanding pit of dread, Toya accidentally lets a single tear fall. He doesn't do anything at first, but then remembers why he was here in the first place - makeup. He gasps, quickly wiping it with a finger. It should be fine, right?

Unless it isn't. And maybe he just messed up his makeup which Mizuki spent quite a bit of time on. Oh no.

Too scared to look in the mirror, Toya tries to sit still. It proves quite difficult when he remembers the time crunch, and the fact that guests will be arriving in… fifteen minutes. And he's here, panicking. This is going to go up in flames.

Another tear falls exactly when he hears the door open. Expecting the energetic stylist to reenter, Toya makes no effort to move. He just continues staring at his hands.

“Toya?” A much deeper voice says.

Toya nearly jumps out of his skin when he looks up and sees Akito step into the room, with Mizuki holding the door open. The pinkette flashes him a smile.

“Mizuki-” he stands, taking a step forward, but it's too late. The door shuts, leaving him alone with his now very concerned soon-to-be-husband.

His gaze drifts from the door to Akito, and Toya swears he feels genuine fear crawl through his spine. This isn't happening. It's all a bad dream, right? Soon he'll wake up next to Akito and laugh about how he dreamed of their wedding day going terribly. How silly, because Toya would never be so nervous about getting married.

And yet he never wakes up, because this is real life and he is nervous and Akito is here, watching everything fall apart.

“Toya, are you alright? What's wrong?” Akito rushes to grab his shoulders and evaluate the situation.

Akito looks so pretty. His suit fits perfectly, bringing out all his best features. It has a bunch of intricate orange details that match his styled hair, and he looks so perfect and composed and ready, unlike…

“Nothing's wrong,” Toya fools no one. He bites back more tears.

“Nothing's wrong?” Akito repeats, raising his eyebrows. He takes Toya's hand in his, rubbing soothing circles with his thumb. “Come on, Mizuki already told me. Spill it.”

The words would probably sound harsh to anyone who isn't Toya. Akito's straightforward way of doing things always makes him feel at ease, like his problems aren't so complicated. Realizing that they also have no time to dance around things, Toya decides to just speak.

“I'm scared,” he blurts. “I don't know what to expect, or do, and there's so many things to worry about.”

Akito nods. Toya continues.

“I know you wanted today to be perfect, but- but what if it's not? What if I do something wrong? And-” his voice breaks. “Akito, my dad's going to be there. He- he doesn't like you, what if he causes a scene? It's going to be…” he finally lets the dam break, covering his eyes so Akito doesn't see him cry.

“Toya,” Akito whispers, pulling him into a hug. Toya lets Akito hold him while burying his face in his shoulder, inhaling the unmistakable scent of his beloved partner.

“I can't stop worrying about- about everything,” he says between sobs. “I know you were excited for today, but I'm just-” his voice rises in pitch, throat closing around tears. “There's so much to think about, and- I'm gonna be such a- a bad husband, Akito-”

“Shh, it's okay,” Akito soothes, stroking his hair. “Can I see you?”

Slowly, hesitantly, Toya lifts his head. Akito cups his face with a soft smile, brushing the tears away.

“Dummy,” he mutters. “I don't think there's a single universe where you'd be a bad husband. This is just a fancy way to make you mine forever, but you always were, anyways. Right from the start.” He pinches Toya's cheeks playfully. “Mine,” he repeats, earning a small laugh from the bluenette before continuing.

“Yeah, I’m looking forward to today, but it's not because of the party. I don't give a shit whether that goes well or not.” He pauses, leaning in. “‘Cause either way, I'm walking out of here as the luckiest man in the world.”

Akito stands on his toes to plant a kiss on his forehead, nose, and lips. Toya lets himself be showered with affection until the redhead pulls back with a slightly determined look.

“And hey, is your dad the one getting married today?”

Toya scrunches his nose and shakes his head.

“Exactly. So who cares what he says? Let ‘em complain. Worst case scenario, we get a laugh watching security drag him out.”

Toya giggles, pulling Akito into another hug. “I love you,” he says softly. Akito runs one hand up and down his back while the other goes to tangle in blue hair.

“That's why we're here, aren't we?” the redhead replies. Toya squeezes him tightly before releasing, staring fondly into olive green eyes.

“Thank you, Akito,” he manages to take a deep breath, using the back of his hand to wipe away the remaining tears. That's when he remembers the makeup again, and quickly steps past his fiancé to glance in the vanity mirror. Akito follows curiously.

“Oh, no,” Toya sighs. Akito appears behind him.

“Heh,” the younger man chuckles. Toya glares at him through the mirror. His eyeshadow is splotchy, joining the eyeliner in messy smears around his eyes. There are lines on his face where tears paved through the blush and other products, vividly outlining their paths. It'll all need to be redone.

His attention is diverted when he notices some splotches on Akito's jacket as well, marking where he cried on his shoulder. Turning back to him, Toya reaches out to try and brush the colors off the crisp black. “Your outfit…”

Akito catches his hand and brings it to his lips for a quick kiss. “Don't worry about it.”

“But there's only,” he finds the clock in the corner of the room, “five minutes. Akito, there's only five minutes until the guests arrive!” His heart leaps into his throat. “I'm not ready!”

“Hey, hey, calm down,” Akito shushes him with a sweet kiss. “Mizuki can help you with that. I'll take care of the guests. You don't get to worry about a thing, ya hear me? This is our day, so take your time.”

Toya goes quiet. He sort of feels like crying again, though this time it's from the sheer love that washes over him like a flood, threatening to make his heart explode. Akito is so perfect. He's going to marry the most perfect man in the world and not care about what anyone else has to say.

“I love you,” he says again, though the words don't do his feelings justice. Akito huffs a small laugh.

“I love you too.”

Toya shakes his head. “No, you don't understand- I love you so, so much-”

“Toya,” Akito interrupts his rambling. “If you wanna prove it, get out there and marry me. Deal?”

Toya sniffles, the remnants of his tears trying to force their way out. “Mhm.”

“Okay. I gotta go, I'll get Mizuki to clean you up.” He grabs one of Toya's hands, dramatically bowing down to kiss the back. Toya can't help but think he looks like a knight in shining armor, bidding his prince farewell. “See ya, partner.”

“Bye,” Toya squeezes out as Akito releases his hand, fingertips being their last point of connection until the man is gone completely. He already misses him.

Toya lets out a breath, feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. He sits on the chair he was previously in, waiting for the stylist's arrival.

About a minute later, Mizuki nearly tears down the door with the amount of force used to push it open.

“Toya! Time to assess the damage~” The words are said in a sing-song tone, completely contradicting the meaning. However, Toya can't help but smile.

When Mizuki plops down in front of him, two warm hands are on his face, pulling him close. It's as if he's a precious stone being inspected.

“Aw, poor thing,” Mizuki coos as the tear lines are spotted. “You look a lot happier than before. Was I right? Akito helped?”

Toya lets out an embarrassed huff of a laugh. “Yes, I feel a lot better. Thank you, Akiyama.”

Mizuki grins. “See, told ya! Now it's time to work some magic!”

Sleeves are pulled up, brushes are snatched from where they were abandoned on the vanity, and Toya is back to being a canvas. He can't help but giggle every so often, excitement bubbling up inside of him with every passing minute. Even when Mizuki tells him to relax his face so she can reapply his eye makeup, a glow remains in his eyes the entire time.

He's making Akito, the man of his dreams, and he's never felt more ready.

The wedding ended up being a huge success. Toya doesn't think he's ever smiled so much in his life. It was everything he ever dreamed of and more.

He was glowing while walking down the aisle, arm in arm with Akito. Toya swore he even saw his dad smile. The vows were so beautiful they made him tear up a little, but he didn't care.

“I now pronounce you married,” the officiant declared after exchanging rings and ‘I do’s. “You may kiss.”

Honestly, the kiss wasn't great. They were both grinning too much for it to work, their teeth bumped a little, but Toya reminded himself that there would be many more to come. Plus, no kiss with Akito could be truly bad.

His favorite part of the buffet was when he and Akito cut the cake. It was cheesecake, so Toya only had one bite (which Akito forced him to try), but he enjoyed watching everyone else dig in. He vividly remembers Ena calling Akito a ‘gluttonous pig’, though each sibling had two slices on their plates.

Everyone was in high spirits when they moved to the party, which could only be described as organized chaos. It was where the real fun began, as drinks were served and the dance floor opened. He only planned to get a little tipsy, but that was quickly abandoned after his slow dance with Akito, when An and Kohane pulled them away to do shots.

The rest of the night was an intoxicated blur. Toya might have had about ten different alcohols in his system by the end. From what he remembers, though, the party involved a lot of singing, some sloppy making out (he really hopes no one saw that), and a whole lot of fun.

“Toya,” Akito slurred when they stumbled into their bedroom after miraculously getting home alive, practically falling on him in an uncoordinated attempt at a hug. “You're my favorite husband, y'know. ”

Toya couldn't help but erupt into drunk, bubbly giggles as Akito nearly caused them to both topple over. “Then you're my favorite… wife,” he grinned, falling onto the bed and pulling Akito on top of him.

“Heeeeey,” Akito pouted as he buried his face in Toya's chest. “I ain't anyone's wife.”

“Pfft,” Toya laughed again. Why was everything so funny? “You’re… mm…” he quickly lost his train of thought. “I dunno.”

Akito gasped and attempted to whack Toya on the shoulder. “Meanie! You're sooo mean, we-” he hiccuped, “we just got fuckin’ married, say somethin' nice with that pretty mouth.”

“‘M sorry, Aki,” Toya managed to mutter. “I love you. Lots. More than... a lot of things. More than- more than coffee. Mhm.”

"More than coffee?" Akito giggled. "'S a lotta love." Toya just gave him a messy kiss, slightly off-centered due to the alcohol coursing through him. Akito was quick to reciprocate, deepening the kiss and parting his lips.

"Wait- Aki, Akito," Toya mumbled, pulling back as if remembering something important.

"What?"

"...I'm really tired."

Akito took a minute to process the words before going back to lie on his husband's chest. "Hm. Me too."

Toya sighed. "I wanna sleep," he said slowly. Akito replied with a hum, as if the mention of sleep drained all his remaining energy. Toya lazily draped his arm around Akito's waist.

It didn't take long for the room to fill with soft snoring, putting an end to the busy yet happy day.

Notes:

Never been in a relationship before. Never been to a wedding. Also have never gotten drunk, sorry if the dialogue was a bit off there. I wasn't totally sure where to end it so...

They're so silly I might make a pt 2
