Chapter Text

Harken ran across the rocky surface—wincing at the pain of the side of her torso being completely smashed through. She clutched her glowing spear, her “heart” pounding in her chest.

Am I going to die?

Harken never thought she would get this close to death. She’d had close encounters with stronger constructs like this before, but this one seemed to be way stronger than what she’s used to.

Harken didn’t want to die. Life on FableHaven wasn’t amazing—but some parts of it were nice, like fishing with her father. It was one of her favorite memories.

But he’s gone now, so it doesn’t matter.

She had a bit of trouble jumping over the jagged rocks, but the other construct seemed to do it with ease. Harken noticed they were gaining on her.

When she turned her head around to look at the construct chasing her, she saw a large rock get thrown right at their face.

Harken stopped in her place and turned around to see a tall, slim jet black construct with a purple torso; with what seemed to be a purple flower on their head—antennas sprouting out at the top, covering their “face”. The other construct motioned with her hand to follow, quickly. Harken basically had no other choice but to follow.

Harken limped across the sand with the other construct that saved her. She was starting to really feel the pain now. Harken was clutching at what was left of her torso—a huge chunk of it ripped off from earlier. This would take a lot of time to fix. Of course, the most important part of her body was injured. She didn’t know when the stronger construct would come back, and she didn’t want to find out. But, she did know she was grateful for getting “saved”.

The other construct turned to look at Harken and cocked her head, pointing at Harken’s torso.

Harken stood for a moment and shook her head, basically saying “I’m fine, don’t worry about it.”

“My name is Nectere. What is yours?” Nectere clicked.

“Harken.” Harken clicked back, hesitantly.

“Thank you for saving me.”

If Nectere had any facial features, she would be smiling.

Harken turned around and started to walk off, but Nectere grabbed her shoulder.

“Wait. Follow me.” Nectere clicked, gesturing to Harken to follow her.

Nectere guided Harken through the bushes—at the end of the path, there was a tiny cave with even more bushes surrounding it. Inside the cave, there were all sorts of different pottery lined on the back of the cave. Nectere took a seat on the ground and patted next to her for Harken to sit. Harken was nervous. She had to be careful—you never know.
