Summary:

wooyoung is watching over their newborn daughter when he suddenly bursts into tears. san panics until he finds out the reason as to why.

Work Text:

San is currently stood in the kitchen, preparing lunch and humming along to the quiet nursery rhyme song playing in the lounge.

His heart feels so full, listening to Wooyoung’s gentle giggles as the younger watches over their newborn daughter. Soojin has been in the world with them for two weeks now, everything about her is perfect.

She sleeps well through the night, which came as a surprise to the both of them because neither of them did so as pups. Wooyoung has always had too much energy, San just preferred to sleep with his parents.

During the day, she’s quite content to stare up at the ceiling or cuddle in their arms. Wooyoung thinks that she knows how to daydream already even at such a young age, and San doesn’t doubt it. She often looks to be deep in thought.

Soojin drinks her milk with ease, and waits patiently for it. She cries to let her parents know that she is hungry, and then she stops and simply waits for the bottle or Wooyoung to meet her lips.

Her naps during the day often occur on their chests. She finds the heartbeats of her parents soothing. It lulls her to sleep in a matter of minutes. She dreams for hours sometimes completely undisturbed even if she has to go from one parent to the other.

Right now, Soojin is in her baby bouncer. It rocks her both easily and carefully side to side whenever they are not able to for whatever reason. She really likes it in there, she is always watching the glowing toy stars hanging above her with such awe in her eyes.

Her looks- she is a miniature version of San, through and through. She has Wooyoung’s giggle, they have heard it once before, but that’s about it. Maybe the Omega should be a little jealous that their daughter holds none of his own physical features, but he really cannot be.

San is incredibly handsome, their little girl is so cute.

The pack agrees, talking about the second part here, wholeheartedly. The first photo they had sent to the group chat of her was met with the same adoration they had all given Seonghwa and Hongjoong’s own pup when she was born two years ago.

Soojin hasn’t met the pack yet, but Mingi and Yunho are scheduled to visit some time next week.

The Alpha fills two glasses with water, he puts them to the side afterwards in order to collect some plates from the cupboard above the sink. The small smile that had been on his face fades a little as something pulls on his heart.

His shoulders suddenly feel tense, and there’s a pit of anxiety building in the base of his stomach.

San places the plates down and then turns the stove off, making a mental note to not leave the cooked chicken for too long otherwise it will become spoiled. His hands are trembling a little.

Something is wrong- he just is not quite sure as to what it is.

And then he is.

Wooyoung sobs heavily from inside the lounge, and so straight away every single one of his five senses heighten further. His mind is swimming with endless possibilities as to what could be wrong with his mate or even their child.

San’s instincts scream at him as he rushes into the lounge, panic growing with every step he takes. He needs to get to Wooyoung, and to their baby, as fast as possible.

He needs to protect them both, to save them from whatever has suddenly gone so wrong.

Soojin is in her baby carrier with a light frown on her face when he gets to the doorway, Wooyoung is still crying. He can’t feel any physical pain through their close bond as he rushes to his Omega’s side, which lessens his worry only by a little amount.

”Wooyoung,” San falls to both of his knees, bringing his hands up to cradle his mate’s face and then guide their gazes together, “my love, what-”

Wooyoung continues to cry heavily, tears flying down his face, the sound breaking San’s heart completely.

Soojin hiccups softly, sad to see her Papa in so much distress.

”Wooyoungie,” a little sterner this time while his own eyes fill with tears, “what’s wrong? What happened?”

But Wooyoung just shakes his head. Soojin’s bottom lip wobbles slightly.

”My love, I-”

Wooyoung slowly lifts both his hands up to curl them around San’s wrists. San moves to sit beside him, he places their foreheads together.

”It’s okay,” the Alpha whispers, releasing a scent into the air that helps Wooyoung to breathe a little easier, “it’ll be okay, love, I’m here.”

Wooyoung’s sobs are becoming quiet whimpers.

”Breathe, love,” San guides him, “nice and slowly.”

The Omega feels his Alpha’s thumbs slowly start to wipe his tears away. Soojin is teary herself.

Wooyoung’s eyes fall closed, he focuses on calming the overwhelmed racing of his own heart.

”That’s it,” San encourages, “you’re doing so good.”

San rubs the tips of their noses together in an action that brings further comfort, Wooyoung’s tears are no longer falling as fast. There’s an ache in his head, he registers the panic his Alpha is feeling.

”N-nothing is wrong,” Wooyoung shakily manages to tell him, “sh-she just- she just-”

”Soojin?” His thoughts continue to jump around his mind, “what did she do?”

Wooyoung detaches their foreheads so that they can look each other in the eyes. Another soft sob before, “she sm-smiled at m-me.”

San blinks, stunned. “Wh-what?”

”Sh-she smiled at m-me.”

Uncertain as to what’s going on, San starts to say, ”I don’t-”

But he’s cut off, ”she h-has your smile, Sannie.”

A confused, ”she has my-”

”She h-has y-your smile,” the Omega confirms with a growing smile of his own, “our baby has your lovely sm-smile.”

San doesn’t know how to reply.

”She r-really is a little you,” Wooyoung tells him with a sniffle. His heart is filled with so much adoration and love, “she’s perfect.”

San feels the tension steadily disappearing from his shoulders. The pit in his stomach fills and his hands fall from Wooyoung’s face.

”Th-that’s why you are crying?”

Wooyoung nods.

”Because she has my smile?”

Wooyoung sobs heavily again, San lets out a relieved chuckle, his lingering worry floating away.

The Omega’s scent sours a little. “Are you l-laughing at me?!”

”No,” San shakes his head, “no, my love, I was just worried, that is all. I thought that something was really wrong.”

Wooyoung wipes away his own tears. “I’m sorry.”

”It’s okay,” the Alpha promises him before placing a kiss to his forehead, “I’m just glad that you’re both alright.”

Wooyoung exhales shakily. “I didn’t expect it right now, th-that’s all.”

The Doctors had said that Wooyoung’s emotional state, like during his pregnancy, could be a little all over the place throughout post pregnancy too.

Of course the rapid change of emotions has never (and will never) bother San at all.

”I know,” San nods, “but,” and just because he has to make sure, “you are okay, yes? Both of you?”

”Y-yeah, we’re perfect.”

San goes to say something but a soft giggle captures their attention instead. They both turn to look at the pup who is watching them with a smile.

Wooyoung bursts into tears all over again. “S-see?!”

And San’s eyes fill with tears a moment later too, his heart practically bursting out of his chest.

Soojin really does have his smile.
