A Targaryen alternative.
What if Saera Targaryen's perversion is what actually ended up saving her house?
She would have never imagined it, nor wanted it probably, but the reason why the dragons were not completely and utterly lost is the birth of her bastards.
Silverwing and Grey Ghost were two of the very few dragons that survived the dance between the Blacks and the Greens and the consequent civil war. They flew to Essos, to Volantis, and remained there. Saera and her children took care of them and mended their wounds. Eventually, two of them, Viserra and Valerion, had the privilege of forming a bond with them.
Saera guarded the last two dragons of the dance out of spite for what she had been put trough. She would never have guessed that this is what saved them, all of them, from extinction.
80 years and 5 generations later, the third Saera Targaryen, of the essosi branch of the first Saera Targaryen, would be the one to change the course of history and bring the dragons back to Westeros. She will however be needing some help, and it will come from the most unexpected relative of them all.
