In Yuno’s prison cell, it was silent like the breeze. She sat on her bed and moved her legs back and forth as her gaze was locked up at the ceiling. She seemed to be waiting for something to happen. Yuno remembered the chaos that had happened yesterday and remembered having to help Mikoto and Muu with Shidou by finding bland snacks like crackers and bread—along with trying to calm Shidou down in a panic attack with Kazui present. She was glad that it was over and that nothing would happen in the future… hopefully.
There was one question was left from the top of her mind: What does the strawberry shortcake that Shidou had planned to make taste like? She lightly tapped her cheek with her pointer finger while she glanced diagonally to the right, staring at the wall. She remembered when she saw Haruka clean up the counter tops, putting away utensils and ingredients, she assumed Shidou would start on the dish later… but when was that? He couldn’t have started just after he recovered, so maybe he started it around dinner yesterday… or maybe he was working on it now. Shidou hadn't been around much since yesterday, so how was she supposed to know? That's when Yuno widened her eyes. Shidou must've been so tired… and he hasn't smiled. She remembered she had to find him today to continue her progress.
Yesterday, after Shidou fainted, she noticed Shidou wanting to talk to Mikoto about something, so she left and went with Muu to eat Maritozzi, a delicious pastry with cream in the middle. Yuno remembered how sad it was to see Shidou not smiling and asked Muu what to do. Muu suggested that she play Uno to cheer him up, which is how her journey to find Shidou everywhere in the prison started. She went to Kazui's cell and saw Shidou there, but it was the worse timing since she agreed with meeting Amane right after the round with Kazui. Amane wanted to talk about tofu pudding and Shidou for some unknown reason, which got Yuno pumped. After that, she resumed her journey, but it abruptly ended at night when Kazui had told her that Shidou went to sleep early. Today is the next day, which would be a great chance to find Shidou.
That's when a lightbulb had flashed inside her head. Today, she'll find a way to make him smile, except she did not have the Uno deck, as she handed it to Muu and Haruka. Just then, two knocks on the wall have suddenly got Yuno alert. She inhaled a large amount of air and let out a short breath of air. She shouted, "Come on in, I won't bite!" with a cheerful tone in her voice.
Yuno's pupils dilated. The person that she wanted to seek out before she had left her cell was standing head to toe right in front of her. Shidou seemed to have avoided eye contact from Yuno as his gaze was lowered onto the floor for a few seconds. He seemed to be holding onto a plate of some slice of cake with strawberries and cream, but Yuno didn't mind that for now. All she cared about at this time was Shidou.
"No way… you… I've been trying to look for you after I last saw you with Kazui!" Yuno exclaimed, not believing what she had saw. She slowly stood up and walked towards Shidou like she saw a new dog. "Words cannot express how much I was worried!!"
Shidou winced. He couldn't find the right words to explain it in further detail. Yuno had a lot to say about him and whatever had happened to the point where she took a few steps closer to Shidou.
"How are you now—I mean you seem alright. Were you able to get rest? Did you get enough sleep? Did you get any nightmares of any sort?"
"S-Slow down…!" Shidou let out a nervous laugh. "I can't process… that much questions."
"I know that but answer my three questions first!~" Yuno teased, poking at Shidou's shoulder.
Shidou let out a slight pause and tried to process his words. He firmly gripped on the plate with his fingertips and let out a short breath of air. "Yes, yes, and no."
"Wow, no nightmares!" Yuno shifted towards Shidou's eyes and gave a radiant smile to him. "I'm so glad you got some rest."
"Ah, but… you said you were with Mukuhara-san, right?" Shidou cocked his head to one side.
"Oh that…" Yuno pressed a finger on her cheek as she lifted her gaze. "Yes yes… I was—I went looking for him right after dinner, but Fuuta told me I cannot go to the smoking room because he knew I'd actually try it out!!
"Huh—"
"Wait but that one time I was with Kazui when you were sleeping on his lap, I played Uno with him."
"That's when you lost… right?" Shidou cocked his head to the side.
"Yep…" Yuno clenched a fist with a determined expression on her face. "As of today I am plotting my revenge to beat him in Uno!"
Shidou let out a faint smile, knowing how much fun Yuno had when talking to him. She seemed like a cheerful soul dancing in the wind. The grip on the plate had loosened up a bit as he saw her relaxed after that few seconds of determination. Yuno widened her eyes. She felt the need to discuss something that she felt the need to talk about with Shidou.
"Speaking of Uno, I went to talk to Muu-chan after I left the kitchen yesterday!" Yuno shifted back to her bed and plopped herself down. "I asked her what I should do he told me that I should play Uno with you. That's when I set the goal to find you."
"Really…?"
"Then I couldn't even find you. Lunch… dinner… then I tried my luck with Kazui again, ONLY for him to say 'Shidou-kun went to sleep early' when it wasn't even lights out! My hopes were dreams were shattered, but I didn't give up. That's why I decided today was the day… until you entered my cell!"
Shidou widened his eyes. "So the reason why you were in Mukuhara-san's cell during the time I was sleeping…"
"That's right!" Yuno snapped her fingers, flicking her hand to the left. "My original plan wasn't to play Uno with Kazui… My plan was to play with you!"
Yuno took her free time to find him… just to play Uno?
All that time he had tried to comfort himself alone, he would've played Uno with Yuno—though… there was also a possibility he wouldn't be in the mood that time as the situation yesterday was overwhelming. Another regret… though it wasn't much of a big deal unlike his other regrets. He let our a sigh and lowered his gaze until his bangs had covered his eyes. Yuno widened her eyes the moment she saw Shidou disappointed he hadn't noticed prior, but then another shock came to her the moment she saw the plate. The strawberries and cream she faintly saw… was without a doubt a strawberry shortcake… but first she wanted to confirm with Shidou if it was.
"Wait… that thought aside… is that Amane-chan's strawberry shortcake?" Yuno bent her knees to inspect the plate Shidou was holding.
Shidou widened his eyes. He didn't expect Yuno to notice now than earlier. "It was, but as always, she sent it back to me."
"Ah… so you're going to throw it away?" Yuno cocked her head to one side and shifted backwards. She let out a frown seeing something so fresh to soon be thrown away. "It's going to be a waste if you throw it out…"
"That would be a waste, so no," Shidou replied. He lifted his gaze to meet eye contact with Yuno. "I remembered that one time you invited me to play Crazy Eights with Sakurai-kun and Amane, and you kept pointing out my thoughts… when it came to strawberry shortcake and you pointing out all those embarrassing thoughts, I thought about you first, and—"
"THAT'S FOR ME?!" Yuno's muscles tensed the moment she heard about the strawberry shortcake. She too a few steps toward Shidou with her eyes locked onto the strawberry shortcake. "You… remembered… you knew I was wondering how yours would taste like, so you came to my cell just for this?"
"Yes, and—" Shidou lowered his gaze and extended his hands with the plate in his hand. "—If you would like to—"
"Hell yeah, I would LOVE to have it!" Yuno dashed up to the plate and snatched it from Shidou. "Oh my god yay, there's a spoon too! Let me sit down right now!"
Yuno shifted backwards until her legs had hit the bed. She plopped down onto the floor behind her and plated the plate on her lap, legs crossed. "Join me, Shidou-san. You must be tired standing up."
"I'm fine—"
"Sit down." Yuno let out a warm smile, cutting off Shidou's words. "You're just going to sit on the floor with me as I devour this!"
Despite the hesitation printed on his face, Shidou silently accepted his fate, slowly walking towards Yuno's bed until he hit the rim. He slowly knelt until he sat in seiza, avoiding eye contact as usual. After a moment, he averted his eyes towards the strawberry shortcake that Yuno had seem to dug her spoon in.
"Alrighty, it is time to eat this deliciousness!" Yuno quickly flew the spoon into her mouth. "Is this your first attempt?"
"Yes…" Shidou replied. "Please… swallow your food first then talk?"
Yuno nodded, chewing her food side to side with silence. This is where things had gotten intense. Consuming something Shidou had made was something she wanted to do, especially with strawberry shortcake. Mahiru's recipes were always the bomb for her, but now it's Shidou's baking she's trying. The awkward silence and witnessing Yuno chewing made Shidou a little worried—unsure if he had messed up on something. so he felt the need to ask Yuno.
"Kashiki-kun?" Shidou made eye contact with Yuno, tilting his head to one side like a confused puppy waiting for their treat.
Yuno closed her eyes as she still kept chewing on the cake. Her expression was quite hard to read. From Shidou's perspective, it's either she enjoyed it and would like to eat it again, or his first attempt was a terrible attempt and he messed up pretty badly.
Shidou had many doubts. His palms started to sweat despite having gloves on. He located his gaze towards the floor in front of him, believing that she didn't like his strawberry shortcake as Yuno wasn't saying a single word. After consideration, he let out a nervous smile, knowing what the outcome would be.
Kashiki-kun isn't saying anything… it seems… this attempt wasn't perfect. Shidou concluded, hands clasped towards his stomach. For a first attempt… it was expected, but—
"Shidou-san, this is delicious." Yuno interrupted Shidou's thoughts and finally spoke a word after a few seconds of silence. "This is almost identical to Mahiru-san's version… and the taste is just as how I imagined it to be!"
"You… like it?!" Shidou's eyes widened. He was surprised to hear Yuno say something about the first attempt of the strawberry shortcake.
"No… I love it." Yuno smiled. "Man, I can't even choose between yours and Mahiru-san's cooking, despite it being the same recipe—what's with the face?!"
Shidou's widened eyes had caught the attention of Yuno. She furrowed her brow, wondering why Shidou had made face that showed surprise—despite the fact that it was his first attempt. What else did he assume? She didn't like it? That wasn't the case at all… she loved it. It tasted like she was in heaven—lying down on a fluffy cloud. The sweetness, the flavors, and everything that was inside of it was the best she had ever tasted. However, she did let out a nervous laugh, admitting one thing.
"I'll admit it was a tad bit sweeter than Mahiru-san's recipe, but I still love it. Were you by chance… thinking about yesterday?"
Shidou narrowed his eyes and nodded, clasping his hands tighter. "Still… in shock. Still… think about it."
A curious gaze has rose within Yuno. Shidou averted his eyes and noticed her curiosity, so he didn't mind and continued on.
"Nothing seems wrong with me, my pulse is in it's normal range, I had gotten enough sleep, no symptoms of fatigue, I'm normal, my body has gotten stronger compared to how weak it was yesterday, but mentally… let's say… I… still have my thoughts on it."
"So you're telling me all of this?" Yuno cocked her head to one side.
"You were curious."
"Oh… dear." Yuno blinked her eyes rapidly. How do I become uncurious?
With a lot of thoughts set inside her brain, Yuno set the plate aside—leaving half of slice left on her plate and brushed her hands together. "Thank you so much for this delicious masterpiece. I'm surprised that you have thought about me and I appreciate it."
"Ah, you're welcome." Shidou helped himself up the floor, grabbing onto Yuno's bed rails so he wouldn't fall. "I feel like you need some space, so I'll be off."
"Who said you're leaving?" Yuno's tone of voice changed. The stern look in her eyes caused Shidou to furrow his brow. "Sit back down."
"Ah, I see where this is going…" Shidou pressed the knuckle of his pointer finger on his chin. "It seems you're going to imprison me in your cell…"
Yuno let out a playful laugh, signaling Shidou to walk back to the area he sat at so he could join back in, which did get Shidou's attention, slowly walking back to that seat and plopped down, repositioning himself back in seiza.
"What do you have for me today?" Shidou cocked his head to one side.
"There's one unspoken rule in my cell." Yuno pointed a finger up. "If you want to leave, you have to smile!"
Shidou understood the assignment. He curled the corners of his mouth, hoping he'd get a pass, but after one single glance at Shidou…
"That smile has to be genuine." Yuno stated with a serious tone.
"Ah, right…" Shidou's cheeks had turned red. "I forgot… you could read others."
"Mhm!" Yuno let out a playful grin, lightening up the atmosphere around her cell. "This led back to the explanation on finding you yesterday and that Uno match I wanted to do with you. You weren't smiling at all yesterday… and that goes for the previous days too."
"There's one thing… I'd like to comment on." Shidou spoke in a quiet breathy tone that didn't seem like he was happy. "You didn't have to find me all this time for… Uno."
"Oh, but I did anyways!" Yuno tilted her head, still with a warm smile on her face.
"Ah…" Shidou lowered his gaze and let out a long breath of air. "Guess I missed my chance to do so… but I can make it up, right?"
"Yes… but I gave the deck to Muu-chan so she could play with Haruka-kun, I'm so sorry." Yuno made an apologetic look to Shidou, giving him a slight bow.
Yep… I blew it. Shidou let out a nervous smile. It seems I kept messing up every chance I get—
"Oh, but don't worry, Kotoko-san taught me another game and it's fun!" A light bulb flashed into Yuno's mind. She poked Shidou's shoulder to get his attention as she noticed he lowered his gaze. "Shidou-san, I would like to be the second to introduce you to this American game that I had first introduced and played with Muu-chan… Getting Warmer, Getting Colder!"
Yep… another international game.
Of course, he was unfamiliar with it, but considering Yuno had known the rules, this got him intrigued. Crazy Eights… was also an American game that Kotoko had introduced to Yuno. He had enjoyed it like it was a game of Uno, except no reverse or skip cards, even no draw twos and draw fours. A curious look in Shidou's eyes caused Yuno to remember she had to explain the rules before continuing.
"Kotoko-san told me that this game includes hiding an object and if you're closer to it you get warm but if you're far from it you get cold—well not literally, but Kotoko said that I'm allowed to make my own twist if I wanted to, so for this case, we're going to guess random events and if you are farther from the answer you get cold!!"
Shidou furrowed his brow. He wasn't able to understand Yuno's short explanation. Things that include an object being placed somewhere… but adding her own twist and guessing something else that's entirely different? However, there was a question that was bothering Shidou for quite a while. If Kotoko had introduced the game to Yuno, how come she didn't do a test run with her? With one look at Yuno, she already had an answer up her sleeve.
"Oh yeah, if you're wondring, Kotoko-san didn't want to play with me and instead told me to play with someone else… and then I played with Muu-chan!" Yuno snapped her fingers. "Oh yeah, Muu-chan got confused too so I explained my version of this game into a more easier way to understand."
Shidou winced. Yuno could tell by his facial expression he was that curious about why she didn't play with Kotoko. Of course… she could read the room, so it was expected for Yuno to call out what he was thinking… just like that Crazy Eights game. He remembered all the times Yuno pointed out his thoughts about sweets, especially the thoughts about a crepe cake and strawberry shortcake… who would've thought…
"Ok, the rules…" Yuno snapped her hands and took a deep breath in and out. "So… the rules of this game that I improvised on my own… you ask one person a random event that they have to guess. The guesser has unlimited guesses until they give up. For example, I will ask this question: What did I eat for breakfast today?"
Shidou remained silent for a period of time, unaware that he was the one answering as Yuno had asked the question. Yuno noticed his eyes were quite attentive with his head tilted to one side. She let out a smirk on her face.
"Awww, you look like a puppy waiting for a treat… so cute!~" Yuno chuckled, teasing Shidou before clearing up the misunderstanding. "Now answer the question."
Shidou winced. "I was supposed to answer?"
"Yep!" Yuno flashed a smile. "What did I eat for breakfast today?"
A hard tutorial question…
He didn't pay much attention to Yuno's plate during breakfast, so a guess had to be made. From the top of his mind, Shidou thought of only one thing Yuno would eat for breakfast as the guard gave everyone the opportunity to create their own breakfast meals. The first thing he had guessed from the top of his mind, was something quite simple.
"If I said you had miso soup for breakfast—"
"Getting colder!" Yuno let out a laugh.
"Hm… I see how it works now…" Shidou pressed the knuckle of his pointer finger against his chin. "I won't get it on the first try…"
"Eh, it depends on the severity of the question…" Yuno tapped her pointer finger against her cheek. She then pulled back her finger slightly as she widened her eyes. It seemed like she had thought about another question from the blue. "Let's try this question: Why did I look for you throughout the prison?"
"To play uno with me," Shidou straight up answered.
"Getting warmer." Yuno crossed her arms and leaned back against the side of her bed.
"That's… not the reason?" Shidou cocked his head to one side. He was sure Yuno went all over the prison to find him and play Uno, but was that not the answer?
"Oh that is, but we're getting specific." Yuno leaned forward and smirked.
Shidou hung his head low as his cheeks turned red. This was the most embarrassing thing he had said… yet it was so simple. To think Yuno would actually go this far to go very specific… what if she asked another question that he knew would get correct but then she says 'getting warmer' until he actually got the full answer? He's a doctor, he does know a lot, but not to that extent. Although answers have a chance to be specific… it's still a hard guessing game. For this, Shidou had to put his brain into action and space out just to find out why.
If it wasn't because of Uno… then surely it would be something else of the sort… Shidou pondered, staring at his fidgeting hands. Kashiki-kun would for sure… point out my lies… and go deeper into the explanation… so it can't be Uno. Another reason… would surely be that she was worried about me…
When Shidou fainted yesterday, it caused chaos to the entire prison. Yuno, along with Mahiru were the two that were watching over him before Muu and Mikoto arrived. Fuuta only came at a brief time and Haruka brought in chairs and left a little later. Amane was the only one who didn't come because of her beliefs, but considering in Shidou's mindset that she is a child, he forgave her. The thought that Shidou had put a burden on everyone made a comback and there was no way that it was able to exit his mind. He narrowed his eyes, knowing that the reason why Yuno went looking for Shidou, was…
"You were… worried… about me…"
"DING DING DING!!" Yuno snapped her fingers and shouted. "You got it correct!"
Though Shidou got the answer correct, he'd be shocked to see it was correct, but he didn't respond to Yuno, which got her slightly concerned. His gaze was still lowered, causing Yuno to be taken aback a few seconds later.
"Shidou-san?" Yuno poked him on the shoulder. "Hey, are you alright…?
Silence filled up the cell for a few moments, then transitioning into a long sigh coming from Shidou. "Sorry…"
"Ehhhhh? For what?" Yuno swayed her body side to side. "Last time I checked you did nothing wrong."
"Everything that happened yesterday… I ended up worrying everyone." Shidou explained. "I didn't consider my own health… which led up to the events that happened yesterday. I fainted… and worried Kayano-kun… which led to extra help…"
"That's good!" Yuno tried her best to lighten up the mood.
"True, but…" Shidou clasped his hands, which then started to tremble. "Had I not made that mistake…… I wouldn't……… I wouldn't have worried everyone… Mukuhara-san… and I wouldn't have to put a burden on everyone…"
"That's why we stay here and play until you stop thinking about it and smile!" Yuno clapped her hands together and let out a warm smile. "Remember I told you that you aren't leaving my cell until you smile?"
He totally forgot about it…
The unspoken rule that Yuno had explained to Shidou was what he forgot the moment she explained the rules of the foreign game, Getting Warmer, Getting Colder. He seemed interested to the point where he got too focused to remember the rule. A slight laugh came out from Shidou.
"Then… let us continue."
"Okay!" Yuno bounced back against her bed. "Now that we know the rules you shall start off."
The official game has started. This was a chance to forget about yesterday and think about events or questions that either Yuno and Shidou can answer or forget. A few moments of silence surrounded Yuno's cell as it was Shidou's turn to ask, since Yuno was the one who had asked the example questions. A few seconds later, Shidou was finally able to think of one single question… something hard for Yuno.
"Kajiyama-kun…" Shidou started off.
"Fuuta?!" Yuno widened her eyes. Fuuta appearing in Shidou's question was an unexpected thought.
"Yes…" Shidou let out a chuckle. "Do you know what he ate for breakfast today?"
"Oh my gosh this is easy, I sat right next to him during breakfast today." Yuno was confident that she had an answer prepared to the point where she shouted, "Eggs with meat!"
"What kind of meat?" Shidou asked.
"I have to answer that?!" Yuno was taken aback.
"You said you sat next to Kajiyama-kun during breakfast time, so you should know." Shidou gazed up at the ceiling.
"I kinda lied, hehe." Yuno chuckled. Why did Fuuta want to eat western food all of a sudden?!
Yuno took a little time to think, swaying left and right as her gaze was fixated toward the wall. What Fuuta ate for breakfast was the most unexpected question that was asked… yet she didn't sit next to Fuuta. Yuno widened her eyes as she thought of an answer to add on.
"Usually western breakfast has the use of bacon, so I will say that!"
"Getting colder…" Shidou replied in a monotone voice.
"DANGIT!!" Yuno shouted. "What about sausages?"
"Yes, anything else?"
"Tea!!"
"Getting colder…"
"Water!"
"Still getting colder…"
"NOOOO!!!" Yuno covered her face with her hands in disbelief. She slid both of her hands down from her face and leaned towards Shidou. "You mean to say Fuuta was drinking juice?!"
"Getting warmer," Shidou glanced at Yuno.
"I HAVE TO GUESS THE FLAVOR OF THE JUICE TOO?!" Yuno's pupils dilated. "Oh dear we're getting more specific…"
"You like being more specific with your questions… so I thought I'd do the same…" Shidou pressed the knuckle of his pointer finger against his chin. "I thought your way would be enjoyable if things were turned up a notch."
Right…
Yuno realized that she liked getting more specific with the questions, even though it wasn't her turn to ask. She smirked at Shidou, plotting on what answer she should give for the juice Fuuta was drinking. Here was the thing: who would drink juice during breakfast? That thought went straight into Yuno's mind and she never seen anyone drink juice. Mostly, she'd see Mikoto drink some type of coffee and Muu occasionally drinking strawberry milk, while some other prisoners including her, drank water—even Fuuta were one of the people she saw drinking water.
However, Yuno remembered she saw the color of Fuuta's cup. He drank juice out of a clear cup and saw what seemed to be orange juice from her perspective. Without further hesitation, she shouted, "Orange juice!!!"
"Correct." Shidou was able to finish off the round.
"Yay!!" Yuno celebrated by pumping a fist in the air. "Despite being surprised that you knew what was on Fuuta's plate, I am so glad that this round is over!"
It was now Yuno's turn to ask a question. This time, she wanted to go easy on Shidou. Considering that he was new to the game, surely an easy question would work. Before proceeding with the round, she asked one question to Shidou.
"Do you know your cats, Shidou-san?"
"I do," he replied with confidence, but his gaze was fixated on his hands. "Go on."
"What cat am I thinking about?"
Cats…
It was unlikely that Yuno was thinking about cats. Usually, she'd be more interested in dogs rather than cats, but what if it was a test to see if he ACTUALLY knows his cats. However, he wanted to start off with something simple.
"A black cat…" Shidou muttered.
"Getting colder!" Yuno shouted and smiled as she heard what Shidou answered under his breath.
"Ah…" Shidou noticed that Yuno would point it out anytime he had guessed, and let out a sigh. Even if he muttered… Yuno would still figure it out. "How about a white one…?"
"Getting warmer!" Yuno shouted, swaying her body left and right.
Colors… were getting nowhere for Shidou. A puzzled look on his face showed that he didn't understand what he was trying to guess. However, a cat breed… he can guess that. Like Yuno had said, she liked getting into more details with the answer and possibly make Shidou suffer with the amount of tries he had to get in order to find the correct answer. Though… the moment he realized he was getting nowhere, he let out a long sigh and asked…
"Can I just guess the breed?"
Yuno widened her eyes the moment she heard Shidou's sudden request. "How did I not realize that?" She glanced at the ceiling for a few seconds, then glanced back at Shidou, confirming his request. "Ok guess the breed!"
Shidou covered his mouth and let out a smirk. Of course… he did his research before he woke up in MILGRAM and knew most cats as he remembered wanting one, but not getting the chance to do so. There was one cat breed that he remembered seeing one time. It was at a humane society, when he and his wife were looking at a few cats to show to their children. They seemed to enjoy the presence of cats, but there was one—a cat with a chocolate point and blue eyes. It's ears seemed to be darker than most of it's body. It was a fond cat Shidou remembered seeing one time at a pet store. He slid his hand down from his mouth and stated his final answer.
"A Siamese cat?"
"DING DING DING!!!" Yuno shouted, letting out a laugh later on. She leaned back to the side of her bed and gazed up at the ceiling. "I was thinking about a Siamese cat for some reason because I wanted you to understand what animal I was guessing, but then it came to the point where I forgot about dogs since I like dogs more than cats, but you get what I mean!"
Suddenly, Shidou let out a slight laugh that had caught Yuno's attention, causing her to lean forward and glance towards Shidou, with his lips curled up and eyes crinkled. Yuno widened her eyes as she noticed the sudden smile in Shidou's eyes, but before commenting on his smile, she said something else to lighten up the mood.
"I see you're smiling, Shidou-san.~" Yuno poked Shidou on the shoulder to try and get his attention. "What's the occasion?"
"I remembered a long time ago… my family had a liking of cats, especially my wife. We always… wanted to own one, but didn't have the chance to do so." Shidou started talking about his family like how a normal person would talk about their daily life. However, despite him wanting to hide that smile, he was able to show it to Yuno, causing her to look amazed that he was showing it. "It was… a fond memory."
The silence was loud between the two. Yuno's amazement to Shidou's smile caused Shidou himself to worry if he had done something wrong. He glanced down to his fidgeting hands, trying to figure out how to apologize to Yuno as randomly talking about his family lead to dead silence. However, instead of a apology, he heard something he didn't expect to hear…
"You have reached the requirements… to leave my cell!!" Yuno gave a round of applause as she shouted. "Congratulations Shidou-san you have SMILED!!!"
Shidou winced. The suddenly shouting that Yuno gave out of the blue gave him quite the surprise. Maybe fond memories were interesting to talk about… which caused him to smile when remembering that. Yuno noticed Shidou's shock, and wondered if he was feeling alright, waving her hands infront of his face.
"Hellooo?" Yuno tilted her head slightly. "Shidou-san?"
"Ah, right…" Shidou glanced at Yuno. "I had a lot of fun playing that game."
"Even if it's not the original…?"
"Even if it's not the original. I think I wouldn't be good at the original…"
That was unexpected…
Yuno didn't expect an answer like that from Shidou, but from her perspective, she believed that even if Shidou knew the rules of the original, he'd have fun. However, she didn't question it because after the entire chaos from the crazy eights game, she promised herself that she won't point out any crazy things in front of Shidou. Instead, she flashed a smile at Shidou.
"It was fun playing, was it?" She asked. "Even though I wasn't able to finish up the strawberry shortcake, I was able to enjoy myself like how you enjoyed yourself!"
"Ah… maybe I did—" Shidou slowly stood up on his feet, heading towards the exit of Yuno's cell. "—enjoy myself."
Yuno slowly carried the plate to her lap to finish up the sweet and savory taste of the strawberry shortcake that was originally for Amane—who turned down Shidou's offer a little while ago. When she glanced at the exit, Shidou glanced back at Yuno with a smile melting on his face.
"Thank you, Kashiki-kun."
After those words came out, he stepped out of the cell, about to do his own thing. Yuno made a fist pump in the air, happy that she had made Shidou smile after the chaos that had happened. She took a bite of the strawberry shortcake, them glanced up at the ceiling. What should she do next? Does she want to continue to make others smile while time passes? With all those questions in her mind, she hoped that Shidou would find his spark and enjoy himself during his free time.
