Summary
It didn't take long to find the same clearing he had laid his snare in last time. The one that he hid carefully with fallen leaves, the one his last catch had screamed in as it whipped it up into the air, breaking its leg and making an agony out of its final moments before The Hunter took up his gun and ended it all for the miserable creature.
Soft fur.
Softer ears.
The softest, most tender, most delectable meal The Hunter had eaten in a long time.
Usually when The Hunter laid a trap, he would venture away to lay more, not wanting to disrupt the site of his hopeful kill with his purely human scent, or the sounds of his leather gear sliding under the metal of his gun. But The Hunter had the taste of blood still on his tongue and he wanted to be sure that the next bunny he caught was from the same family, assuming that they would all be just as delicious.
It took hours. Hours of patience and waiting. Hours of letting the changing light filtering through the branches make hallucinations out of the morning mist evaporating and the chypre scent of summer sun drying wet leaves scenting the air.
The Hunter waited, and waited, and waited.
