Chapter Text
Strobbing lights pulse crimson and violet streaks across the mansion, noise bustling alongside the pungent smell of alcohol. Yes, Sukuna has found himself in another trivial party yet again. However, this time round it was Satoru who dragged him along, single-handedly fucking up his evening. Whatever, he told himself, at least there's free alcohol. A sip, then another, and it looks like he already craves a new can of beer. Gosh, capitalism is getting insane- there's barely any drink in these cheap cans!
Everyone makes way for the imposing muscle wall walking towards the cooler. That's his style- Sukuna doesn't mingle or flow, he interrupts and intimidates, even when he isn't particularly intending to. His stiff nature gets terrifying, many preferring to sit in the background around him like props than to even meet his scarlet eyes for too long. Oh, staring at him is enough to earn a mean punch and who in the world, with some semblance of self-preservation, would ever want a punch from muscle man over here?
The cooler is right before him, his peripheral gaze resembling a fuzzy, uninterested camera. But suddenly, his eyes have already chosen a new source of entertainment tonight and for the first time in forever, his heart also has a say in this ordeal. And right now it's screaming 'fuck who's she?' in morse code. Each beat gets more erratic than the last, his hand stopping half way, inching towards the ice cold beer. Sukuna's expression manages to not change much at all actually, not counting that cocky smirk that slowly forms across his face.
"Hey, you new? Haven't seen ya before."
A gruff voice interjects your thoughts. Thoughts on how you plan on spending the rest of your evening, hopefully managing to shower before knocking out as soon as your cheek hits the fluffy relief that sits on your bed. Your eyes match the deep voice you heard to the man in front of you: the infamous Ryomen Sukuna. Yes, the very same man who's a rumoured felon, beats up people just for breathing wrong and is somehow still well liked even after all of this. You wonder if he has a PR team- you'd gladly ask for their email since they must be miracle workers.
"Nah I'm not new. Think you got the wrong girl."
"I'm sure I haven't."
Sukuna can't pinpoint this novel rhythm banging against his ribs, but he also can't deny how it has his adrenaline rushing. He'd never say it aloud though. Nobody would believe him if he admitted to getting the hots for a nerd like you, not even himself!
"Do nerds like you always come to parties?"
"Not a nerd."
"Yeah, you are. You have no friends."
"How do you think I got here buddy?"
Man he's gone. What sold him was your lack of energy; you didn't even care enough to reply with more than a sentence. Plus, you do look pretty cool, arms rested on the counter right beside the cooler, leaning forward whilst your hip pops out slightly behind you. Hell, you aren't even drinking, just staring off at the view and occassionally catching up with friends. That sliver of skin exposed between your low jeans and your top has the dude salivating now. Sukuna would rather die before he comes to terms with the fact that he doesn't just want to sleep with you.
Silence echos between you both for a moment, nothing you mind. To him though, it only reinforces how far out of reach you are, the stilling quiet serving as a harsh reminder that not every girl begs to be in his bed.
"You always this quiet?"
A question hangs in the air, the sarcasm he intended to be laced into each letter has ended up as residue on his lips. Words fell out too fast to really add his usual rudeness to them.
"I'm not quiet. I'm actually pretty loud."
Is that kinda a lie? Yeah. Do you really care? No. With such conversations, you figure it's best to just be as annoying as possible. Maybe then he'll scurry off to someone who'll kiss his ass like usual.
"You? Loud? And I'm a dinosaur."
"Well... the lights do make ya look a little green."
While you're busy laughing at your own trash joke, Sukuna lets out a little huff of amusement. Yeah, not much to the average joe, but from that guy? Congrats, you've managed to move a mountain!
"HEY SUKUNA! SPIN THE BOTTLE! GET OVER HERE!"
Boys chant, Toji ushering the brute over to join in. As soon as his lips parted to voice his obvious denial, he's already being swept away by his friends, who also decide they can tease him about finding a girl. Though, like most of this night, it's different- he can't bring himself to laugh along. Fate has never been generous enough to invite someone like her into his life; he'd rather not laugh at a scarce opportunity.
