Work Text:
“I think the Auditorium would be empty during the morning… let’s go “Friend”!” Rain said to “Friend”, his Oshawott partner, as they entered the Auditorium. “You can probably guess I’m not so fond of being watched while dancing”, Rain explained to “Friend”, “but it should be empty in he-” Rain stops talking as he notices another student at the Auditorium. He was talking to himself as well, but stopped when he noticed Rain as well. They are both silent for a moment.
“Oh Dialga, is this a bad time?” Rain says to the other student. “I g-guess we both thought the s-same thing, n-no?” The other student answered, referring to what Rain said as he entered the Auditorium. They both go silent for another minute. “Listen, I’m not going to tell anyone, if you are worried about that.” Rain says, breaking the silence. “Th-Thanks.” The other student answered, “You can stay here and p-practice dancing. If you w-want to, of course!”
Hearing this, Rain smiles and introduces himself and his partner: “Thank you. I’m Rain, one of the new D-ranks. And this is my Oshawott, “Friend”!” “Friend” waves to the other Student, who introduces himself as well: “Tony, f-from B-rank. It is n-nice to meet you b-both!”.
(This happens a day after chapter 3).
Rain couldn’t understand something. It isn’t the first time he danced in the Auditorium while Tony was watching. While at first he was a bit uncomfortable with that, now it isn’t. So why did it feel weird that Tony is watching him?
At first, he thought it was due to the whole thing that happened ever since he became a C-rank. The fight with Esrever and what happened back at Waterfall Passage was a lot, but it didn’t really affect his dancing that much. It was something else, a weird… excitement?
Was he really excited to dance in front of Tony? No, that is not it. As if being with Tony made him excited. But why?
(This happens after chapter 9).
It was another lunch period for C-rank, and as Rain was eating by himself, he couldn’t stop thinking about Tony. That happened a lot during the past weeks, and while Rain didn’t mind, he never understood why. He tried asking himself why he thinks about him a lot, but he didn’t get an answer. Not at first, at least.
His mind then went to think about how nice it is to hear Tony's voice, who always seems to be filled with kind words. How Tony’s hair always covered his face, which Rain thought was cute, and a part of him always wanted to pet his hair. Not to mention that his lips are probably sweet, and-
“OH” Rain thought to himself right after his last thought, his cheeks turning red as a Cheri Berry. Quickly finishing eating, he returned to class with a realization in his head: he has a crush on Tony.
(This happens somewhere between chapter 12 to 13).
The first day in B-rank for Rain was… hard. Not because there was a one on one duel with one of the students in his class, or because there was a quiz about the type chart. No, it was a trip to the Cafeteria for lunch. The real reason for this first day being hard was simple: Rain was with Tony in his class. He is supposed to learn with his crush until he ranks up again. And that made everything harder.
A part of him wanted to sit by Tony's side during lunch. But, since he was blushing like crazy from the moment he entered the B-rank classroom, he decided to sit alone, despite every part of him telling him to do otherwise. Rain tried to focus on eating, but he couldn’t stop looking at Tony’s direction every once in a while.
“The B-rank lunch period is over!” Mr. Bee said, and Rain couldn’t help but release a small sigh of relief as they all returned to the classroom. He looked at Tony one more time, and saw him giving him a friendly wave. Some part of him melted as he awkwardly waved back. He is madly in love with him, ain’t he?
(This happens before chapter 16 begins).
Rain couldn’t help but feel embarrassed from what just happened. He was just crying in front of Tony, for Arceus sake! And he helped him. Tony was by his side, helping Rain despite being unable to share all of his pain. And he couldn’t be more thankful to have such an amazing rival and best friend.
“But I should have maybe told him that I love him.” Rain thought, “Someone as amazing and cute as him deserves nothing but the best in the world.” As he quietly sat near his desk, he realized (once more) how much he is in love with his classmate. Though for once, he didn’t blush. He was accepting the facts: he really is in love with Tony. And that is the truth.
“Still… maybe it wasn’t the best time to tell him that”, He thought, “And I may have some hard time telling him face to face.” He quietly looks at his desk, trying to think what to do. Suddenly, it came to him: why not send him a love letter? Sure, it is a bit corny, but maybe this way he could be honest to him on how he truly feels about him.
(This happens after chapter 19).
After returning back to his room from helping Vain in Dragon’s Den, all Rain wanted to do is sleep. That is until he saw the mountain of failed love letters he tried to write to Tony. Seeing this, he blushed for a moment before starting to organize them. Even though none of them were good, he didn’t want anyone entering his room and seeing this mess of a love-life he had.
The thought of talking with Vain about this crossed his mind. While he was certain his mentor didn’t have anything going on himself, he knew by now Vain may have some form of advice… but a part of him wasn’t able to talk to anyone about this.
As he finished to organize the love letters, Rain fell onto the bed and wondered if he even had a chance talking to Tony about this. Sure, they still see each other but they are no longer in the same class… and it made him somewhat sad.
(This happens a bit after chapter 24).
Rain was sitting in Dreadna’s room, wondering why she called him here. Something made him worried, but he didn’t know what. “I guess you want to know why I asked you to meet me.” Dreadna said, and Rain nodded. “Then allow me to cut to the chase”, Dreadna said, “I know you are in love with Tony.”
Rain immediately blushes, trying to think of what to say. Finally, he asked: “How… do you know that?” “OH, please”, Dreadna said, “I saw the googly eyes you made toward him ever since your first day in B-rank. It was very obvious.” Rain once again goes silent.
“Now, I don’t care why you are in love with him, that isn’t my business.” Dreadna continued, “But I have two things to say. One-” she then takes out her Bewear, “if you, for whatever dumb reason, break Tony’s heart, me and Bewear will break you. UNDERSTOOD?” Rain quickly nods, scared for his life.
“Good”, Dreadna says as she returns her Bewear, “and two: when will you confess to him?” Rain looks at the floor, and says: “I don't know. I tried to write him love letters, but it never worked.” “Oh my Arceus, you are a hopeless romantic”, Dreadna says, “and here I thought I was the one with relationship problems.”
Rain goes silent again, and Dreadna says: “Look, if you won’t do this, you may miss your shot. My advice? Put a note in his pocket that asks him to meet you somewhere, and then confess your love. It is better than keeping this to yourself.” “Got it. Thanks.” Rain says as he begins to leave the room before asking: “Do you… know how Tony feels about me?” “That’s for me to know, and you to find out.” Dreadna says with a smile. Rain leaves, with Dreadna calling: “Tell me if you become official!”
(This happens a day before Chapter 28).
Rain was walking nervously near the school docks. Yesterday, he gave Tony a note to meet him near the school docks in the evening, but Rain was waiting from around late afternoon, mainly because of his nerves. He knew what he was about to ask Tony. While at first he wanted to send a love letter, he didn’t manage to write anything good, and frankly, he just wanted to tell Tony the truth and be over with this.
“I’m here!” Tony said as he walked toward Rain, “You gave me a note saying you wanted to tell me something.” “Oh, y-yes!” Rain said, feeling like he can barely talk, “I… ahem. I w-wanted to t-tell you s-something, but…” Tony looked at Rain as he barely managed to form a sentence, and asked: “You good?”
Rain couldn’t help but begin crying. Why is it so hard to say “I love you”?! Those are just three words, for Arceus sake! “Rain? What is wrong-” Tony began asking, but Rain cut him off as he shouted: “I LOVE YOU, OKAY?!” Tony stood there, shocked by what Rain just confessed, as Rain continued to talk while crying: “I wanted to say that, but I never could. So I tried writing you a love letter, but that failed as well, and now this attempt is going down the drain and-”
Rain’s panicked speech was stopped the moment Tony gave him a kiss on his cheeks. He began to blush like a Cheri Berry as he looked at Tony, stunned. Tony was also blushing, a bit shocked with what he did as well and said: “I… love you too.” They both stared silently at each other for a moment, before Rain asked: “Can I… can I kiss you as well?” Tony nodded.
Rain moved the hair that covered Tony’s eyes, and looked at them for a moment. They were filled with both embarrassment from what he did, and some happiness as well. Rain closed his eyes for a moment, took a deep breath, and gave Tony a kiss on his lips, with Tony kissing back. This kiss continued for a few moments, and when it was finished, Rain said: “That was… amazing.” “The feeling is mutual.” Tony said, smiling. Seeing this, Rain couldn’t help but smile as well.
