Work Text:
- Prometheus
The first time Vala got a taste of Daniel’s lips was meant to be a distraction. She often used methods of seduction to get her way, it had worked so well in the past, so she assumed it would with him as well. Their fight was…interesting to say the least, and when she finally felt like she had him where she wanted him, she went in for a kiss.
She kissed him.
Once.
Twice.
And then a third time which she quickly deepened.
He yielded to her, and she felt like she had won. Then he did something unexpected…he pulled away. Men did not pull away from Vala Mal Doran.
“You’re a fruitcake.”
She had no idea what that was, but it was time for plan B. She headbutted him. What a shame…
Later on, after she had escaped the Prometheus and Daniel and was back on her way she still remembered the taste of him.
- Unending
Confusion. That’s what Vala felt when Daniel kissed her on the Odyssey after spewing all of those horrid words at her. She didn’t understand what was going on. He just told her that she was the last person he’d ever want to be with and then kissed her?
Then she opened her eyes and saw him smiling at her! Her confusion grew, but then as he said his next words, she understood.
“You better not be messing with me.”
Oh…oh. He was afraid she wasn’t serious, that she didn’t have real feelings for him, which was the reason for his tirade. But once he knew that she did have those feelings, he was finally ready to reciprocate.
He leaned in to kiss her again and she met him halfway, bringing him down onto the bed and into each other’s arms.
Now that was a kiss…and it led to much more. Fifty years of more.
- Ark of Truth
Shortly after Tomin left, Vala had thrown herself back onto her bed and contemplated what she had just done. She did care for the man, but their marriage was always one of convenience and she wanted to stay on Earth more than anything.
Okay…okay she admitted it, she was still holding onto the hope that Daniel would learn to care for her the way that she did for him.
Things were tense between them, mostly due to the deadly peril that they had just been through, and she knew that he did care about her, but she wanted more. She wanted him to love her, to be in love with her.
A knock sounded at her door.
Vala sat up and fluffed her hair. “Come in.”
It was Daniel, he was standing there rocking back on his heels looking nervous. “Vala, hi. Umm…can I?” He motioned into the room.
She nodded and patted the bed beside her. She expected him to just stand as he usually would, but to her surprise, he actually sat down next to her.
“What is it, Daniel? You seem nervous or confused.”
He sighed and looked down at his lap, took a deep breath, and then looked back at her. “I am confused, I guess.”
She turned more towards him. “About what?”
“I just saw Tomin leaving,” he motioned towards the door, “and uh he said you weren’t coming with him.”
Oh…that.
“That’s right.”
Daniel cleared his throat. “Oh, umm…can I ask why?”
He doesn’t know? He really doesn’t know? “My home is here now. On Earth…”
She thought she saw a brief smile grace Daniel’s lips. “Yeah, I mean of course. Happy to have you here.”
Was he? Did he really want her here?
“Are you?”
“Of course! I just thought…I mean you and Tomin were close and all…”
His words trailed off and she sensed something strange coming from Daniel, almost like jealousy.
“Daniel, what’s your point?”
He stood back up and started pacing, mumbling to himself for a moment.
Vala tried to wait patiently for him, but let’s be honest, patience wasn’t her best quality. “Spit it out, Daniel.”
He flopped back down on the bed next to her. “When Tomin was leaving he said, ‘Take care of her, Dr. Jackson.’ I asked him what he meant and he looked me straight in the eye and said ‘You know what I’m saying. Don’t let her get away.’”
Vala inhaled deeply at his words. Tomin knew all along how she felt about Daniel. She didn’t know how to respond to Daniel now other than to say, “Oh, I see.”
Daniel tilted her head up to meet his gaze. “Now I could play dumb and pretend I don’t know exactly what he was trying to tell me, or I can finally admit to myself that I’ve come to care for you…as much more than just a friend and coworker.”
Vala could hardly believe the words that were coming out of Daniel’s mouth. She struggled to keep her composure as she asked her next question. “What have you decided?”
His fingers grazed lightly over her cheek and she couldn’t help but shiver at his sensual touch. The rough pad of his thumb swiped slowly over her lips and he drew them closer together.
His eyes fluttered closed and hers followed. It felt like eternity before his lips actually met hers. But when they did, the gentleness of his kiss surprised her. His lips barely captured hers before he deepened the kiss, his tongue meeting hers.
She whimpered lightly when he broke off the kiss. “Wow.”
Daniel smiled. “I need to take things slow, Vala. These feelings could easily overwhelm me.”
Vala nodded. She finally had her Daniel and she would do anything to keep him.
- Caught in the Act
Vala and Daniel decided to keep their new relationship a secret, at least at first. It was all a part of taking things slow.
They tried to keep things professional at work and saved the relationship stuff for the times that he would sneak her off the base and into his apartment for the night.
Vala knew that it would not last long, someone was bound to figure them out eventually. They only had to review the security tapes to see that Daniel and Vala had been leaving together most evenings and not returning long into the next morning.
They were sitting in his office one day, working on translating an old Ancient artifact when it happened.
Vala had been trying so hard to keep her hands off of Daniel, at least the SGC, but he was looking particularly delectable that afternoon. His green BDU jacket was hanging over the back of his chair, leaving him in just a black t-shirt that showed off his muscular arms quite nicely. She couldn’t help but trail her fingers down his arm.
He shuddered at her touch. “Vala, we talked about this.”
She sighed loudly. “I know darling, but you are very attractive.”
Daniel stifled a laugh. “So I’ve been told…by you…many times.”
“Well, it’s true!”
He did laugh then. “One kiss, okay? I’ll give you one kiss then you have to behave yourself until we get back to my place later, alright?”
Vala nodded enthusiastically.
Daniel leaned over, cupping her face in his hands and kissing her softly. The feeling of his lips on hers never got old, and they had to have kissed hundreds of times by now.
She knew that she should’ve accepted his kiss and not taken it any further, but when she traced her tongue against his lips, he yielded to her and let her deepen the kiss.
Somehow, she ended up in his lap, their mouths moving almost aggressively against each other’s. A small voice inside her mind told her that they should stop, but Daniel’s touch was addictive to her.
“Whoa! What the hell?!”
Vala and Daniel sprang apart, their lips detaching in an audible ‘pop.’
She looked up to see who had interrupted them and it was bad…very bad.
Cameron was standing there.
And Sam.
And Teal’c.
Fuck.
Vala tried to laugh it off as she scrambled off of Daniel’s lap. “Umm…would any of you believe me if I said it wasn’t what it looked like?”
Her three teammates all shook their heads.
Daniel grimaced and sighed. “Vala, I think we have some explaining to do.”
- A Promise
A year went by. SG-1 attended the ceremony where the last Ba’al clone was executed and Vala stayed back to help the host.
The poor man was so hopelessly lost, but she did the best that she could to help him through the first few hours.
Something was off with Daniel lately. He was acting strangely around her, but any time she mentioned it, he told her that everything was fine and not to worry.
But Vala did worry. She couldn’t help it. The past year with Daniel had been amazing. Sure they had their fair share of arguments, but they were able to talk through them.
She had moved into his apartment with him a few months ago and they no longer had to sneak around to be with each other.
But still, Daniel was definitely not himself lately.
Vala was making her way to Daniel’s office one morning, a second cup of coffee in her hands to fortify him.
As she approached his office, she could hear him talking to Cameron. “Yeah, I’m going to do it soon.”
“Are you sure? Do you think Vala..”
She barged into the room at the sound of her name. “Do you think Vala…what?”
Daniel’s face turned an interesting shade of red and he sputtered. “Nothing!”
She frowned, not believing him. “Cameron?”
He put his hands up and shook his head. “Oh no, I’m not getting into the middle of this. I’ll see you two later.”
Daniel sighed and ran his hand through his hair.
“Darling? What’s going on? You’ve been acting so strangely. Are you, what’s the word…breaking up with me?”
His face softened. “Vala, no…of course not! Come here.” He motioned her over to him and drew her into his arms.
She looked up at him, confused as ever. “Please tell me what’s going on.”
He smiled before reaching into his pocket to search for something. “I was going to wait and plan something special for this, but…”
Vala watched as Daniel pulled out a small box from his pocket.
“Oh, a gift?”
He laughed lightly and then bent down on one knee before her. She was confused at first, but then she remembered all of the Tau’ri movies and shows that she had seen where this very thing happened.
Her hand flew to her mouth in surprise. “Daniel?”
“Vala, the reason I’ve been acting so differently around you is because I was nervous. I know we’ve only been together officially for a little over a year, but I love you. I love you so much and life is too short for this to wait any longer. Vala Mal Doran, will you marry me?”
Vala felt tears of joy starting to run down her face. She helped Daniel up and wrapped her arms around him. “Yes!”
His blue sparkled at her and his smile was the biggest she had ever seen. “I promise to love you forever.”
He sealed his promise with a kiss.
