Chapter Text
Astrid
“It was one attack!” I practically scream, “they didn’t even get close to the main gate.”
My father looks down at me, disapproval written across his face, “The Kingdom of Ivor only gets more bold with their attacks, I won’t be taking any risks when it comes to your safety.”
“Then teach me to fight!” I beg, “wouldn’t that be better than paying some useless knight to watch me?”
The knight I’m referring to looks rather offended by my statement but I can’t find it in myself to care.
I’m losing my freedom.
“Knight Arden is top of their fleet, they were on track to be a general. I trust them to take perfect care of your safety.”
“Is there no other way?”
My father shakes his head, “I’m sorry my child, there is not. You will still have free reign to do whatever you wish, your knight will simply be accompanying you.”
“Fine.” I mutter, before storming out of the great hall, forcing my new knight to run to catch up.
…
“Do you have to be here while I sleep?” I ask, but my knight— their name was Arden, wasn’t it? Just pulls out their sword and begins to clean it.
I cross over and run my finger of the hilt, feeling the indents of what must be sigils, though I can’t read the language.
“Did you make your own sword?”
All I get is a curt nod in response, they don’t even glance in my direction!
“You can speak you know, it’s a little weird having an ever present person following me who won’t even talk.”
I don’t even get a nod this time, they just focus on whatever non existent blemish they are polishing out of the metal.
Maybe if I surprise them they’ll say something.
I reach out and snatch the sword and hold it over my head.
They look like they’re about to slit my throat, grabbing the sword from my hands and throwing me over their shoulder like a sack of flour.
“Let me go!” I yell, starting to wonder if they actually are planning to kill me.
But instead they plop me unceremoniously onto the bed and tuck me in as if I’m a child. then return to their seat, where I assume they plan on spending their night.
“Good night to you too.”
