Work Text:
Even though he had graduated, Eddie was at his usual lunch time picnic table, dealing to his regular group of students. He had heard complaints that students couldn't buy weed and needed Eddie to come back, so he came back. And now Eddie spent some of his lunch breaks from the mechanic shop that his uncle owned, selling weed to students. Every graduate's dream.
Today felt different though, there were only a couple of students who came to buy from him and he was waiting for Dustin, who had some message to tell him. That was really the only reason he was here, Dustin radioed him telling Eddie to meet him at the picnic table. So Eddie listened and was sitting on the table as he waited for Dustin.
And when he saw Steve Harrington walking up, he was confused. The lovely Steve Harrington, hands shoved in his pockets mumbling as he walked through the trees. Eddie sat up straight, smiling to himself as he heard what Steve was saying.
“I’m getting my shoes dirty,” Steve mumbled as he got closer to Eddie. “I couldn’t find you.”
There was a small frown on Steve’s lips and Eddie wanted to kiss it away. He took in the blonde highlights and the red lips, was he wearing lip gloss? Eddie sighed softly. He had a huge crush on him, in high school and now. They didn’t really ever talk, but that was pretty much Dustin’s second mom right there. They attended a lot of the same things for Dustin and Eddie always tried talking to Steve, but it never worked or he always sounded dumb. So when he opened his mouth to say something, he wasn’t sure what had possessed him.
“Couldn’t find me, pretty boy? I didn’t know you’ve been looking for me, sweetheart,” Eddie smiled at him and watched him blush.
“Shut up, man,” Steve mumbled and pushed his hair behind his ears.
“What brings King Steve here?”
“Don’t call me that please, Eddie. It’s just Steve. Please,” Steve said softly.
“Sorry. Just Steve, haven’t seen you in awhile. How are you doing, pretty boy?” Eddie smiled and patted the spot on the table right beside him.
Steve sat next to him and shrugged. “You know. Wake up, go to work, go home, sleep, and do it all over again?”
“Ah yes, I know it all too well. How’s Family Video going? With Robs, still right?”
“Good. Good. I didn’t know you two were close?” Steve turned to Eddie, who shrugged.
“We hang out sometimes, yeah. And we talk about you alllllll the time, pretty boy,” Eddie bumped his arm with Steve’s, who blushed again. “You’re real pretty when you blush, sweetheart.”
Steve’s face was burning and he didn’t know what to say. Yeah, he liked Eddie. Yeah, they barely talked but whenever he saw him, he never had anything to say without sounding stupid. And he couldn’t talk to him in high school, he would have made it worse for Eddie. Steve didn’t say anything and then Eddie seemed to realize what he had said, so he cleared his throat and changed the subject.
“What brings you out here, Stevie? Come to buy?”
“It’s Dustin, actually,” Steve said.
“Dustin? What’s wrong with Dustin? Is he okay? Fuck, I’ve been waiting for him. He said he’d meet me here, shit!” Eddie balled his fists.
“No, no, Eddie, he’s fine! He’s okay. He sent me to tell you something? He told me to tell you that you guys can’t do D and D at his house?”
“DnD, baby, you don’t need to say and,” Eddie chuckled and Steve rolled his eyes. “But what do you mean?”
“Well he didn’t tell me all the details, but he just said no DnD at his house because something came up? So he asked if it could be at my house and I don’t have anything happening so you guys are playing at my house tonight. At six, okay?” Steve looked at him and Eddie was so confused.
“We don’t-”
“Eddie!” A voice called out and they both turned to see a girl with curly hair and a too big green flannel marching through the forest.
“Janie! My dear, how are you?” Eddie smiled big.
“Good! Hi, Steve! I didn’t know you would be here too?”
“Hey, Jane Jane,” Steve stuck his hand out, ruffling her hair as she giggled.
“Do you have it?” She turned to Eddie and he nodded.
“Wait! Woah, no, no, no, no! Eddie Munson, you cannot sell her drugs!” Steve practically yelled and grabbed the wrist to stop Eddie pulling whatever he was about to pull out of his pocket. “Jane Ives Hopper, you are grounded!”
Eddie burst out laughing and Jane followed. Steve frowned and quickly dropped his hand from Eddie’s wrist.
“Relax, princess, it’s nail polish,” Eddie smiled and pulled his hand out of his pocket, holding up a bottle of purple sparkly polish.
“Thank you, Eddie!” Jane took it and smiled as she looked at it. “Steve, can I test it on you real quick?”
“What? Yeah, quick though, I gotta get back to work soon,” Steve said and sat on the bench, placing his hands on the table.
Jane sat next to him and had a big smile on her face as he started painting his nails. Eddie couldn’t hide his smile. Steve looked so cute, watching Jane as she carefully tested this polish, even though it was her favorite color that she had Eddie find for her each time because Hopper could never get the right color. And it had been tested on Steve so many times, but he couldn’t say no each time she asked. So here they sat, Eddie’s heart full of love as he watched Steve and Jane. Once Jane finished, she smiled and closed her bottle, sticking it in the pocket of her magenta corduroy skirt. She blew lightly on his nails to dry them and then got up.
“All done, Stevie!” Jane smiled and Steve got up, so she could give him a hug.
“Okay, get back to class, kid,” Steve kissed her on the head and she nodded.
Bye, Janie,” Eddie said, getting up, hugging her.
She waved to both of them before heading back to the school. Steve watched her go and then when he couldn’t see her anymore, he checked his watch.
“Shit! I gotta go, but remember, Eds, six pm!” Steve called and rushed out of the woods and back to his car, not leaving Eddie time to say anything.
—
Once it hit six pm, Steve frowned. Why wasn’t anyone here? Maybe Eddie was picking everyone up and they were just running late. He was looking forward to not being alone tonight. He bought pizza and drinks, and had everything out on the table for everyone. Steve looked out the front window and sighed before sitting on the couch. Maybe Dustin’s house was available again last minute and they didn’t bother to call. He wouldn’t blame them for it. A knock pulled him out of his thoughts and he jumped up. Steve swung the door open and his big smile started to fade as he only saw Eddie, who was holding a six pack of beer. Not that Steve wasn’t excited to see him, he was confused as to where everyone else was. His stomach flipped a bit, seeing Eddie in a sweatshirt with his jeans, and his curly hair pulled into a bun. He looked so relaxed and Steve felt butterflies.
“Not happy to see me, pretty boy?”
“No, no, I am, I mean, you’re the first person to show up,” Steve mumbled and let the man in.
“Yeah, about that, sweetheart, we don’t have DnD tonight? I don’t know what Dustin was talking about when he told you we couldn’t play at his house. We never play at his house,” Eddie said as Steve closed the door.
“Oh. I… You don’t have to stay, Eddie. You probably have better things to do,” Steve said and Eddie shook his head.
“No more Eds? I quite liked that name,” Eddie smiled as they wandered into the kitchen.
“Eds, yeah, sorry,” Steve chuckled, a bit embarrassed. “I didn’t mean to call you that, I was kind of in a rush, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, baby,” Eddie set the six pack on the counter and pulled one out, using one of his rings to open it and hand it to Steve.
Steve had to turn away, taking a sip to distract himself from how hot that was. Eddie opened his own and took a sip. He stared at Steve and chuckled softly before pushing off the counter to stand next to him.
“You bought pizza and drinks and everything, babe?” Eddie asked and looked at Steve, who was nodding.
“Yeah, yeah, I did. Uh, you can have some if you want,” Steve said softly.
“Lets watch some movies, Stevie. What do you want to watch? It will be me and you, all night, sweetheart,” Eddie smiled and Steve nodded.
“Perfect, baby, grab the drinks, I’ll grab the pizza.”
They grabbed the food and drinks before moving into the living room. Steve grabbed lots of blankets and then picked out a selection of movies, putting his stack next to the pizza. Eddie grabbed a slice and took a bite as he watched Steve run up the stairs and then return wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt. Eddie smiled to himself and looked at the movies Steve picked out.
“Uh, did you want to change? I can never wear jeans when I watch a movie,” Steve grabbed a piece of pizza and took a bite of it.
“Uh, yeah, sure, if you’re offering?” Eddie shrugged and Steve nodded.
“I put a pair on my bed, you can run up there and change,” Steve said and watched Eddie head up the stairs.
“Fuck, Stevie, these are nice!” Eddie called as he ran back down the stairs. “Thanks, babe.”
Steve nodded and pulled two movies from the stack. “Which one, Eds? Sixteen Candles or Pretty in Pink?”
“Oh Stevie. Let's start with Pretty in Pink, yeah?”
“Yeah.”
They put the movie on and ate the entire pizza and Steve had never felt happier. After they watched Pretty in Pink, Steve put Sixteen Candles on and sat back, closer to Eddie this time. He was feeling fidgety, wondering why Dustin had lied to them both. He tried focusing on the movie but found himself picking at his nails.
“Baby, what's wrong? You’re picking off the nail polish.”
“Oh fuck.”
Eddie had grabbed his hand, lacing his fingers with Steve’s. Steve turned red and looked at their hands but didn’t pull away. Eddie tugged him closer, Steve pressed to his side and their laced fingers in Eddie’s lap.
“I know why Dustin lied to us, princess,” Eddie murmured and Steve looked at him. “I believe we have been set up.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. He either wanted us to get to know each other or, my other theory, and my god if this goes wrong, I’ll never recover. But I think Dustin picked up on the fact that I like you. And maybe you don’t like me but shit, baby, I like you so much,” Eddie murmured and Steve couldn’t believe his ears.
“Y-you like me? Actually? Eddie, you can’t be joking around right now,” Steve uttered seriously.
“Baby boy, I’m not joking. I like you, Steve Harrington. Since high school, pretty boy,” Eddie squeezed his hand and brought his other hand up to the male’s cheek.
“God, Eds. You make me dizzy,” Steve chuckled, shaking his head. “I like you too, babe, fuck, I like you a lot.”
Eddie laughed out loud, a laugh of relief before wrapping his arms around Stevie and pulling him in close. Steve smiled and wrapped his arms around the man’s neck. He moved into Eddie’s lap, sighing softly.
“Can I kiss you, pretty boy?”
“Yeah, obviously.”
Eddie’s lips felt so nice against Steve’s, he never wanted to part. Eddie kissed him deeper, earning a whine out of Steve. Steve blushed, kissing back before pulling away to catch his breath.
“Should we watch another movie?” Eddie mumbled against his lips.
“Yeah, Footloose or Grease?"
They ended up watching both, but they spent the majority of the time kissing and Eddie could not recall a single detail of either movie, but that was okay with him.
