Chapter Text

The scent of coffee filled the air. Sage was scrubbing the counters while music was blasting in his ears. He loved soft, calm, music. “SAGE!” A girl with long pink hair shouted. “Huh!, oh sorry sugar did you need something?” He responded with a small giggle. “Ugh, I was shouting your name for a while, anyway the shop is going to open in a moment. “Right..”

This was his life, a cycle really. He would wake up, skip breakfast, and work a 6 hour shift at the milk delight. It wasn't the worst life really. Maybe the fact that he was in suffocating debt and couldn't find a second job ruined it. It wasn't always this way. His mother fell greatly ill and he spent all of his savings for medical bills. He was younger and desperate, incredibly desperate.

He made a deal with the wrong crowd and has been in debt since. Even after all he had been through for her, his mother didn't make it out of that hospital alive. He only had 3 months left until the deadline to pay them back was over. He tried not to think about it. “SAGE!, ugh pay attention there are customers here!” A familiar face shouted from behind him yet again. “ Right, sorry!” He said quickly rushing to the counter.

He looked up to greet the person at the other side of the counter. A man stared back at him, he had black lipstick and eyeliner, with a dark suit with red studs down the collar. Oh sage was smitten as soon as he looked into those eyes. The man was looking at his phone and glanced up at him with a scoff. “You gonna take my order or just stand there?” The man said with a condescending tone. “ R..Right, sorry sir. What may I get you?” He said turning away slightly to hide the blush spreading across his face. How could he be so stupid, he shouldn't have a crush on a man just by looking at him. Wait, was he gay!? He thought to himself. He shook his head to snap him out of his trance

“Tch. Get me a black coffee, with milk.” The man said. “Alrighty! Could I get a name for that?” Sage said with a bright smile. “Mgh. Truthless Recluse, just put truthless if you want though.” Truthless said as he walked to a nearby table, scrolling his phone. Sage started brewing the coffee while Sugar walked over with a sly grin. “I saw that blush~ does my little Sage have a crush!” She said teasingly. Sage's eyes widened while the blush threatened to come back. “N..No! What makes you think that!” He practically shouted. “Oh that face you made the whole world could know, and I know love better than anyone so don't try to hide it. Sugar teased again.

“Ugh whatever, maybe I have a teeny crush, but you better keep your mouth shut about it!” He huffed at her. She just giggled, Sugar loved teasing Sage a lot. He finished up the coffee and called out for Truthless while Sugar finished up a different order. “Here you are sir! I hope you like it.” Sage said with a big smile. “Thanks..”He took a sip and his eyes seemed to light up ever so slightly. He grunted and tossed a 20 into the tip jar as he walked out the door.” Thank you sir! Have a wonderful day! Truthless didn't respond, in fact he practically bolted out the door. Strange, Sage thought to himself. Probably just a busy man.
