Kai’s arm was wrapped around Lloyd’s shoulders as they walked into the common room.
The others were still waiting inside.
Jay was the first to speak.
“Lloyd, we get that you’re going through a lot right now, but we weren’t cool with any of that stuff you said.”
Lloyd looked down. “I know. I’m sorry. To all of you.”
Jay didn’t respond.
No one did.
Kai squeezed his hand.
This would be the hard part.
“I was three months old.”
Nya made a confused noise.
“I was three months old when she left me.”
He heard somebody gasp, but he wasn’t sure who.
“She left me at Darkley’s for eight years.”
“Darkley’s? Didn’t they hit the kids there?” Cole asked someone.
Lloyd nodded slightly.
Somebody stifled a breath.
“I never even met her until today.”
Jay reached out to hug him, but seemed to think better of it.
“No pictures, no calls, no anything.”
Zane swore under his breath. “FSM, that lady - shit…”
“Whenever I needed a parent, I just got cold, empty air…”
His voice broke off into a sob.
Suddenly, Kai was hugging him.
And Cole.
And Jay.
And Zane.
And Nya.
His family.
His real family.
The family that cared.
The family that stayed.
He melted into the embrace.
Cole reached the bridge first.
Misako and Wu were talking over some tea.
Anger flared in Lloyd’s chest.
That woman didn’t deserve any of this hospitality.
The Ninja burst in, one by one.
At once, they all started yelling at Misako.
“You thought you could-”
“-a BABY!”
“-that school-”
“How could you?”
Misako just looked more and more guilty.
“He was-”
“Did you know-”
“-eight years!”
Finally, once they had all put in their thoughts, Kai stepped forwards. “
I will say this one time, and one time only.”
Misako gulped.
Kai stepped closer. “
Don’t ever come near my baby brother again. And get the hell off of my damn ship.”
FSM, Lloyd loved his siblings.
Misako couldn’t have gotten off the ship faster if she’d tried.
