Zane Boodram took notice as Ilya Rozanov approached Shane Hollander in the locker room. His hand extended out to the other man, as if expecting something in return. He couldn’t quite make out what the couple was saying from the opposite side of the room, but this exact scene had been playing out before every practice for the past month, so,Bood knew what was coming as Ilya sat and waited next to his husband.
He knows Hollander insists that the pair are the first of the team to arrive so by the time he shows up, Roz is either sitting and scrolling on Shane’s phone already or asking him to hand it over so he can then sit and scroll on it.
“Anyone else notice Rozanov is always taking Hollander’s phone?” He asked
“I didn’t wanna be the one to bring it up, but… yes. Every time we’ve seen them this month I’ve seen it happen.” Troy said
Hayes eyed the couple as he nodded in agreement “Yeah.. now that you mention it, I’ve definitely seen it too.”
The group watched as Shane sighed, shook his head, and handed his phone over to his husband.
They immediately looked back to each other, exchanging glances with varying levels of eyebrows raised and eyes squinting.
“The other day he asked him for it but then Hollzy pointed out Roz already had it, like he just forgot it was already in his pocket. Hollander didn’t even have his own phone when they got here..” Bood replied
The huddle of men quieted as Ilya’s gaze broke from the phone he held to scan the room and see how many players were still left to show up before they could start practice. When he saw there were still a couple missing his head dipped back down to resume whatever he was doing on the screen.
“Do you think Hollander really even does anything worth searching through? The dudes barely on social media professionally, never mind his personal life.” Hayes asked.
“Maybe that’s why he isn’t on it much... What if Rozanov won’t let him?” Bood replied, eyebrows raised.
“I don’t know guys.. every time you think something is wrong you end up regretting getting involved, and Roz doesn’t seem like the type to-“ Luca started
“Shane it is barely charged!” he spoke, voice raised loud enough for the group to hear now.
“I charged it last night. It’s not my fault, you’ve had it all day!” Shane yelled back.
“All day?!” Barrett whispered, shocked.
“That’s crazy. Should we say something?” Bood asked.
“You go right ahead. Have fun with that..” Barrett replied.
“I’m not accusing Rozanov of anything without solid evidence. I don’t need him turning on me. I’ve seen what he’s capable of.” Hayes said.
Bood rolled his eyes. “Maybe we should ask Hollander about it? Just to make sure everything’s okay? Haasy you’re basically their son, I’m sure Hollander would talk to you.”
“I guess I could try to bring it up…” Haas said hesitantly. He didn’t want to, but he could tell he really didn’t have a choice.
The group disbanded in a hurry as Rozanov stood with a shout to start practice.
____________
Luca Haas figured now was the best shot he would get to make sure everything is okay. Roz was off in a meeting with coach while Hollander was at his locker starting to pack up his gear.
“Hey.” He said awkwardly as he approached.
“Hey?” Shane chuckled. “What’s up?”
“Is everything.. okay?”
“What do you mean?”
“Like.. with you guys. You and Roz?”
“Uh.. yeah? Why wouldn’t things be okay?”
Luca turned his head to look from Shane, to the others huddled again on the other side of the room.
“The guys and I.. we just noticed that uh- Roz uh-“ he stuttered nervously and then paused to think.
How the hell do you casually accuse someone’s husband of doing something sketchy without upsetting them?
Shane stared back at him, eyebrows raised “Haas what is going on? Did Ilya say something to you?” He seemed like he was starting to worry.
“No just um..” he ran a hand through his hair nervously. “We noticed Roz taking your phone. Like all the time.”
“Why would that make you think things aren’t okay?”
“What is not okay?”
Luca jumped at the voice behind him. The distinct, deep, Russian one.
He turned in a panic to face the group across the room, internally cursing them and everything they loved for putting him up to this.
They all met his gaze, their expressions all equally as panicked as the one he assumed he was making.
He turned his head back to Shane who looked over his shoulder at Ilya, with a grin on his face.
“Haas here,” Shane slapped his hand onto Luca’s shoulder “was just asking” he gave his shoulder a playful shake, turning him around to face his captain, “if everything is okay between you and I.”
Luca wished the shake had been hard enough to knock him unconscious, throw him to the other side of the room, anything to get him out of this exact spot he was in, stuck between the two husbands.
“I’m sorry guys I really- I didn’t mean to pry I just - WE just” he clarified firmly, gesturing to the now equally nervous group “wanted to check in on you, Hollzy Make sure everything is okay.”
“Why?” Ilya laughed. As Shane stepped around Luca to stand beside him. “What is it you all think I have done this time?”
Luca turned to face the group of men that betrayed him, desperate for help that never came. They all shook their heads and held up their hands in their defense. “You guys are the fucking worst.” He mumbled.
“They noticed you've been taking my phone all the time.” Shane cut in.
“I do not do it that much.” Rozanov replied, rolling his eyes dramatically.
“In their defense,” Shane laughed. “You really do though.” He turns his head back to Luca before continuing, “So what exactly do you think the problem is? What do you think he’s doing with my phone?”
“Ask them.” He said pointing to the group. “I’m done here. They had all the conspiracies. I’m just the one they elected to speak on it. Unfairly!” He added as he crossed the room to his locker.
“Well?” Rozanov asks as he looks at the huddle of men in the corner.
Bood speaks up first, “Well you know, usually it’s a thing that sometimes partners go through each other's phones.”
“People do this? For what?” Roz asks.
“To check on things?”
“Things? What things?”
“Come on Roz, People do it if they think their partner is cheating or doing something shady.” This time it was Barrett that answered.
Ilya couldn’t control the loud laugh that escaped him in response. “You think Hollander could be doing shady things? Look at him. He is most boring man I know.”
“Hey!” Shane yelped. “Aren’t we on the same side here?”
“Sorry, my love.” He turned to flash him a cheesy smile before turning back to the group.
“Well… sometimes it’s the one checking the phone that’s actually doing something shady. Like controlling what the other can post or follow or who they can talk to.” Hayes said.
“Oh, so is me that is being shady?!” Rozanov replied, pointing a finger at his chest.
“Well, kinda…” Hayes spoke, and then immediately dropped his head in regret.
“I am not being shady. He said defensively If you want to see shady I can show you real sha-“
“Okay okay, take it easy!” Shane cut him off, “guys he’s fucking playing subway surfers!” he added unable to contain his laughter.
What followed was an uproar of loud comments. Nobody could make out which ones came from which of the men in the room.
“WHAT?!”
“You’re fucking joking.”
“I can’t believe this shit!”
“I quit.”
Luca watched in stunned silence as Shane and Ilya each grabbed the others arm to keep from falling over with how hard they were laughing.
“You fucking assholes!” He yelled, whipping his head back to face the group of his teammates he had hesitantly conspired with, all of them now arguing with each other. They all stopped, surprised at the outburst.
“I told you this was a bad idea!” He yelled, pointing to the two men collapsing into each other with laughter.
There were a couple mumbled apologies. Not enough in Luca’s opinion.
“But why doesn’t he just play on his own phone?” Bood asked.
“Yeah, Rozanov, why don’t you use your own phone?” Shane asked, sarcastically.
Roz rolled his eyes but now he looked somewhat guilty “becausemystorageisfullandmyphoneisdead” he mumbled quickly and quietly.
“What?” Almost all of the group instinctively said at once, unable to hear the man whose voice has never been so quiet in all the time they’ve known him.
“Because he plays too many stupid games and saves too many memes, his phone storage is full. He couldn't download the game so he made me do it for him, and he plays so much that his phone is always dead because he also never charges it.” Shane explained, shooting a playful glare at his husband.
“Holy shit…” Hayes muttered, a grin growing on his face, “Roz is an iPad baby.”
He would deny it until his last breath but Luca could swear he saw a slight blush creeping onto the captains cheeks as he visibly stuttered and scrambled for something to say.
“What do you mean iPad baby? I am not baby.” He finally managed to huff out.
“You know, the running joke online of how little kids sit locked in on their iPads, getting greasy Cheeto finger prints all over it, just staring at the screen for hours.” Hayes explained.
“No. Is not for hours. I do it to pass time here while I wait for slow idiots to show up late for practice.” Rozanov replied.
“And what about at home?” Troy asked
“Yeah..” Shane smiled, “what about at home?”
“What happened to being on same team?” Ilya scoffed, “okay so waiting for slow idiots and when being ignored by husband.”
Shane rolled his eyes. “I did have to tell you you’re not allowed to eat while you play on my phone. You do leave gross fingerprints.” He said as he playfully shoved Ilya’s shoulder.
“Why would you tell them this? Why do you betray me?” Ilya groaned.
“I would say we should get you an IPad so I can have my phone back but I’m a little afraid I’d never see you again. You’d get lost in that thing.” Shane added, laughing.
“You are all so dumb.” Ilya huffed.
“Who would’ve guessed. Our very own Roz. iPad baby.” Barret said, shaking his head.

A month later, they watched as Rozanov tried to act irritated when he unwrapped his birthday gift from the team, a brand new iPad complete with a case. A case made for children, bright green with ridiculously large bumpers on the edges and handles on the sides.
He couldn’t help but smile as he shook his head “Idiots. All of you.”
“I’m gonna have to monitor your screen time on that thing, seriously.” Shane laughed as he playfully bumped his shoulder against Ilya’s from beside him on the couch.
“Now you can live to your full IPad baby potential.” Hayes laughed.
Ilya couldn’t help but smile as he just laughed and shook his head before thanking his teammates.
