Work Text:
Axel trailed into the small shop behind Jakob. He didn't need to get anything but Jakob had been asking for a bottle of water since they first left the house so it seemed only fair to get him a bottle. He let Jakob head towards the fridge at the back of the store, taking a moment to watch him walk away. He had his usual flash of guilt for staring at Jakob's ass but then remembered that as Jakob's boyfriend, it was Axel’s right and privilege to watch that perfect ass walk away from him, and his sheer pleasure to delight in the knowledge that it would walk straight back to him.
He waited until Jakob had turned the corner before going to look for some mints. He wandered into the confectionery aisle, walking along slowly to give Jakob plenty of time to decide which water he wanted until a familiar wrapper caught his eye and he came to a sharp halt.
Kevin had a very specific favourite chocolate bar that he could only get from January to March, yet somehow they appeared to be on the shelf in front of him. Unsure if he was wrong, Axel walked as quickly as was socially acceptable towards Jakob who appeared to be deciding between two bottles of water. He turned at the sound of Axel’s approach, a quiet grin appearing on his face.
"Hello love. Was I taking too long?"
Axel shook his head. "No, no. It's okay. I came to borrow your brain."
"Sure. What's got you rushing up here to find me?"
"It's okay. Sort your water and then I'll show you."
Axel waited as Jakob glanced between the bottles again before he shoved one back in the fridge and turned on his heels with a grin.
"Right. What are you showing me?"
Axel grabbed his free hand and dragged him back to the aisle he had found the chocolate bars in. He came to a sudden halt which made Jakob walk straight into the back at him, but he ignored it and gestured at the shelf excitedly.
"Ouch. Right.... What am I looking at?"
Axel waved his hand in exasperation.
"Right there.... can't you see them?"
"I have to be honest, love. I have no clue what you are pointing at."
Axel huffed impatiently and grabbed one of the chocolate bars off the shelf.
"I'm talking about these. Are they-"
Jakob cut him off with what Axel could only call an excited rambling.
"Holy shit. Is that those caramel bars? The ones Kevin hoards like a little dragon."
Axel nodded as Jakob continued.
"But you can only get those between Christmas and Easter. What the fuck?"
Axel pulled out his phone and googled it quickly.
"Okay, so apparently it's a new thing and now they will be available on the run up to Christmas too."
Jakob smiled.
"Aw Kevin will be delighted. Do you think he knows yet?"
“No way he knows. He would have told us. Remember back in January the way he live-texted us as he went on quote unquote the best shopping trip of the year.”
“I don't remember most of the texts but I do remember that photo of him taking his first bite. A photo of Kevin with his lips around something mostly phallic shaped - it was the best day of my life until you said you loved me.”
Axel felt himself blush at Jakob's words, still overwhelmed to hear Jakob say that out loud. He darted forward and pressed a kiss to Jakob's cheek before an idea popped into his head.
“We should take him some! If we want to woo him we should bring him a gift. We can't buy him flowers but we could bring him some of these.”
Jakob grabbed his hand and squeezed excitedly.
“Axel, my love…. You are a genius. It's subtle but a good starting point to maybe get his attention.”
The blush that had faded quickly returned at the compliment. Axel forced himself to shake it off and respond to Jakob with actual words.
“Even if he doesn't realise that we are effectively taking him on a date and giving him chocolates as a sign of how much we love him, we'll still get to see his face light up when he sees the wrapper.”
“Given our flirting isn't working, I don't know if this will either but it can't hurt to make those green eyes twinkle at us.”
“And we would have to be clinically insane or dead to not want Kevin's eyes twinkling at us.”
They grinned at each for a minute before turning back to the shelf.
“How many should we get?”
Jakob picked one up and looked at it for a minute before turning back to Axel.
“Is 6 too many?”
“For anyone else I'd say yes. But for Kevin, definitely not. Let's do it, love.”
Axel watched as Jakob grabbed another 5 bars then spun back around.
“Shall we get going then?”
Axel nodded and dug out his wallet as he trailed behind Jakob to the till. He still couldn't believe their luck in finding one of Kevin's favourite things on the day they wanted to impress him. They wanted him to feel special, to see how perfect they were for him and this was the best way to do that. He stood silently as Jakob quickly paid then shoved the bars in his bag victoriously. Kevin was going to be delighted and Axel and Jakob got to be the ones to make him smile.
Jakob led them outside as he sipped his water and Axel couldn't wipe the smile from his face as they linked fingers and continued their route to Kevin’s flat to pick him up. This was going to be a perfect park date, even if Kevin didn't know it. They were going to do everything possible to make it perfect for him, to make him smile. Anything to get them one step closer to hopefully making Kevin theirs to keep.
