Notes:

Hi guys!
This is my first time posting my own work on AO3!
I'm usually very busy and unmotivated (writer's block ;-;) but I'll try my best to upload often! Maybe like once or twice a week? I'll work extra hard during the weekends!
I'm still deciding on whether this story should be more on the lighthearted and fluffy or the super angst side, but... You'll see!
Anyways, I hope you'll enjoy this short series!

Chapter 1: (0) Prologue: Officially Dating

Summary:

“I like you. In a romantic way, Diane.” Lacey’s eyes drifted forward.

There she was—Diane Evergreen—the campus beauty, her best friend, as well as her secret crush since the start of high school. Well, it wasn’t a secret anymore.

Diane had good grades, a nice personality, and an irresistible charm that drew everyone towards her instantly. Not only that, she was as beautiful as a swan. Her skin was fair, her hair was long, black and silky, and her face was like a goddess’. Bathing in the sunlight, she glowed in an ethereal way. She was too perfect to be true.

And here Lacey was—a normal girl with ordinary looks and absolutely horrendous social skills. She was the type of girl that people forgot five minutes after meeting. The only thing she had was her grades. But of course, she could never compare to Diane.

Notes:

Chapter Text

Say it.

Just say it.

The words sat at the edge of her tongue, heavy and terrifying. If she said them, everything would change.

If she didn’t… she would regret it forever.

“I... like you, Diane.” Lacey bashfully confessed, her head tilted downward and her eyes fixed on the floor.

“What?” Diane said, taken aback by the sudden confession.

The classroom was draped in a golden sheen of sunlight, the curtains fluttering in the light afternoon breeze.

“Ever since I first saw you, I felt so strange,” Lacey laid her right palm on her chest, her fingers twiddling with her shirt.

“I suppose it’s because…this is love?”

Diane gazed at the shy girl in front of her. Her eyes were as beautiful as ever—those dreamy, dark eyes that can trap anyone in their allure. Like a pretty venus flytrap luring insects with its saccharine honey. And Lacey flew right into it.

“N-Never mind, you don’t have to care about what I just said…” She hurriedly glanced somewhere else as her cheeks flushed red.

Diane took a step forward, as if urging Lacey to look at her. Her voice was soft as a whisper.

“You’re my best friend, how could I not care?”

Lacey laced her hands together, like she was praying earnestly. Her skin was profusely dribbled in sweat as blood rushed to her face.

“Well, I thought you would be uncomfortable…”

Diane smiled. It was like looking at the dazzling sun. Lacey couldn’t tear her gaze away.

“What’s there to be uncomfortable with? Your feelings are genuine.”

“I don’t know…”

“Why?”

Lacey finally looked away. Not because Diane’s beauty was too overwhelming, but because she wanted to hide her guilt. If people saw them together, they’d laugh. They’d wonder what Diane was thinking.

“...You wouldn’t want to date someone like me.”

Diane stared at her and frowned, immediately starting to comfort Lacey.

“Why do you say that? You’re such an amazing person-”

“-It’s okay! You just need to know how I feel about you. That’s all I need.” Lacey interrupted, unable to contain her emotions.

“I know you have a lot of followers… It would certainly look bad if I were in a relationship with you.”

Diane furrowed her brows discontently. She placed both of her hands on Lacey’s shoulders, giving her a reassuring squeeze.

“Listen, I don’t care about them. They can judge all day and never get tired. I can date whoever I want, and they don’t need to meddle in my business. ”

Lacey paused, “...So will you date me?”

Diane lowered her voice, uncertainly, while trying to soothe Lacey, “I don’t know… I’ve never really dated anyone before…”

Lacey sighed heavily. “You know what? It’s fine, really. I’m glad to get this off my chest after all–”

“-No! No-I mean yes! I’ll date you!” Diane said, panicked.

“Really? Do you mean that?”

“Yes! Yes…I do.”

“Seriously?!” Lacey squealed, clutching Diane’s hands, “We’re official now?”

Diane smiled, a hint of hesitation still lingering. “Yes! Yes, we are…”

“Great! I’m so happy!” Lacey beamed, pulling Diane into a tight hug.

Diane muttered tentatively, a smile tugging at her lips.

“Yes! I’m happy too..!”
