Work Text:
His heart broke. Kon stared at Tim, his best friend, the person he loved most standing next to someone else.
They looked at eachother with such…love, he almost felt a little jealous. Not a little. He was jealous.
Kon remembered it as if it were yesterday, when it was just the two of them…and Bart. The good old days when they were always up to the wildest shit imaginable. Kon had missed it, albeit they were still close.
Tim was now a person Kon could and probably would never have. It felt as if Tim were just a fingertip away from his reach.
Seeing Tim so happy with someone else, it…broke something in him.
Well…not exactly but can’t a guy just be dramatic for once in his miserable life?
Hah. He is so god damn pathetic, isn’t he?
Kon was snapped back into reality when he heard Tim calling his name—God how he wished he could hear that sound on repeat for the rest of his life—and trying to get his attention.
“—Kon!”
“What—yeah? Sorry…dozed off.” He mumbles at Tim. He was trying not to stare too intently at the couple, fearing what expression would be frozen on his face…
Ugh…I'm gonna be sick.
The thing is, Kon never got over Tim. He was still madly in love with him, albeit all his efforts on trying to move on. He wanted to forget about Tim. He didn’t want to be stuck in a constant state of yearning for someone who might never notice him.
Kon knew Tim would probably never love him. Maybe it was for the best. Maybe they weren’t meant to be…
He looks at Tim and Bernard, really looks at them. They are happy. They seem adorable together.
Kon wanted to feel happy for Tim. He was his best friend, and Tim would never be in love with his best friend.
Tim was smiling at Bernard; Bernard smiled back at him. Gosh, they were so sappy it was irritating.
Kon had to admit, he wished he could’ve had that relationship. It was something only he could dream about and wake up next to no one.
Kon decided that it was getting too awkward for him. “Hey, Tim. Didn’t you tell me just a few months ago that you didn’t like guys? I thought you said you weren’t gay.”
It was a few months back, Kon had realised that he was in love with non other than Tim fucking Drake of all people. Why him? He had asked. Why did he have to fall for someone who would never reciprocate his feelings?
Because of his utter stupidity, he confessed to Tim. Sadly, Tim did not feel the same. He even admitted that he didn’t feel attracted to the same gender. Of course he wouldn’t. What was he thinking? Why would he every believe Tim Drake would actually like him as more than friends.
“I’m sorry, Kon, but I’m not gay. I hope we can still be friends thought…” Tim had said. Kon had never felt more embarrassed in his entire life. Getting rejected was one thing, getting rejected by his best friend was another.
He should’ve seen it coming…he already knew Tim wouldn’t even want to date him. He was too…cocky, too stupid. Everyone just say him as arrogant or flirty.
Tim Drake wasn’t gay…was he?
Tim’s face grew a deep shade of red as he excused himself, looking embarrassed and not wanting to engage in any kind of conversation of sort.
He didn’t want to seem jealous of them, although he was. He also didn’t want Bernard to get the wrong idea, that he was just some sour prick who couldn’t handle other people being happy.
Bernard seemed like a good guy. He should be glad that Tim found someone good for him.
“Kon, uh right? That was your name, was it?” Bernard tried to start some small talk when Tim left to get more tea.
As if it wasn’t obvious enough.
“Yeah! And…you are Bernard? Tim’s new lucky boyfriend! Congrats! You two make a great couple.” Kon said, trying not to seem salty about it.
“Yep, that's me! So…you and Tim. You two are really the power duo!” Bernard piped.
Yeah…and we could’ve been a power couple if it weren’t for you getting in the way—
“Heh, thanks. Me and Tim, we go way back.” Said Kon, crossing his fingers
“You two have an interesting dynamic—Oh, Tim is back with the tea.” Bernard’s attention was suddenly drawn back to Tim. They were so lovey dovey…
“Mhm” he hummed in response. Kon didn’t bother to continue the conversation anymore. He was too bored.
Hah…its funny to think that Tim turned out to be gay.
Kon still couldn’t help but feel a sense of longing for him. Maybe in another universe, they could’ve been together.
