Chapter Text

Catnap stalked around Home Sweet Home, following the intruder, but his heart wasn’t in it anymore. At first he had been as loyal as any toy to the Prototype, but lately he had been feeling a sense of clarity only known to him when he was human.

“Was I ever human?” He thought, dragging his bloodstained claws through his dirty purple fur, “or was it all a dream?”

His ear twitched as he heard the intruder use his Grab-pack on a door, he remembered using a grab-pack once.

“What did I use it for?” He wondered, but then he remembered pain and shuddered, letting the Red Smoke hiss out of his mouth.

He went to the window in his room, it was dirty and broken, but he pushed it open, wanting fresh air, well, as fresh as you can get here anyway.

It surprised him when he smelled a familiar scent, it brought him back to the time before he became a toy, but he couldn’t put a name to the scent, all he knew was that he was going to find them.

He slunk through Home Sweet Home, heading towards the exit when he suddenly saw the Intruder in front of him, he stood, horrified as Catnap prowled toward him. At this point Catnap didn’t want anything to do with the Intruder but he growled half heartedly and exhaled red gas, the intruder ran farther back into the house, terrified. Catnap walked, following the scent to the Playhouse, when suddenly a memory flashed through his head, his ripping the legs off… someone, he couldn’t remember who. When Catnap entered the playhouse he exhaled a plume of red smoke, not wanting the annoying little critters there to impede his way.
He went along tracing the scent, it grew stronger until he entered a room lined with cages.

“A-are you planning to do torture me more, o-or are you j-just going to k-kill me this time?”
A voice asked.

Catnap whirled around and saw Dogday, leg-less and weak, hanging from chains bolted to the ceiling.

At the sight, a whirl of chemically suppressed memories burst into Catnap’s head, him a human boy, running around the play-care with another boy, now known as Dogday. Him getting electrocuted by a GrabPack. Him on a medical table being put into the Bigger Body. Him being conditioned to forget who he was and to kill mindlessly. Him mass murdering people during the Hour Of Joy. Him bowing to the Prototype. And finally him, Catnap ripping off the legs of his best friend, dogday.

“D-Dogday?” Catnap asked, voice scratchy from disuse, “did I do this to you?” “Weren’t we friends?”

“Y-you don't remember us?” Asked Dogday, surprised.

“He tampered with my memories to make me forget, but I remember now, everything except my name, what WAS IT?!” Catnap clutched his head, raking at his ears, so long his mind had been stuck in the fog, only relying on instincts that he now couldn't remember his own name.

“I am so sorry that i have done this to you, old friend, if there is anything i can do for you, ask.”

“There is o-only one thing you can do for me now, m-make sure the human here is able to get out of P-Playcare, he may be the one thing that is c-capable of saving us all.”
Dogday lifted his head slowly, as though it was a great effort, his floppy ears moving as he met Catnap’s eyes.

“I have one more q-question, what happened to th-the others? Are they alive?”

“...i do not know, but i will find out, for you.”

“Th-thank you.” Dogday winced as he moved, letting his head drop, “it hurts, so much you cannot believe.’’

Catnap took pity on the toy and breathed out a breath of smoke onto Dogday’s face.

“Sleep well my friend, may your pain not hunt you in your dreams.”

Catnap bowed his head and walked out of the Playhouse, intent on following the Intruder and keeping him safe, but he couldn't shake the feeling of something stirring in his heart.
