Summary
Flame Reaver is a professional witch hunter dedicated for years to the extermination of the species, but when he delves into the Grove of Epiphany to capture Cerces, the hermit of knowledge, he faces a green-haired beauty who makes his cold heart, trained not to feel, beat.
After a chase in which both risk their lives, the bound and subdued Anaxagoras, who turns out to be a man, claims to be merely "Cerces's body." Driven by distrust and resentment from a painful past that chains him to his cause, Flame Reaver takes Anaxa with him, determined to bring him before the Council to be judged and, surely, condemned to the stake.
During the return journey, dominated by a primitive impulse whose origin he cannot understand, Flame Reaver enjoys with deliberate passion that thin and fragile body until he's satisfied. Then, he's forced to make a decision. Maybe that man has cast a spell on him to let him go... or perhaps his story could have a happy ending after all.
