As Evidence I Left There On Purpose

Summary:

Eggchan prepares for the inevitable, which is his death.

or in other words:

How the "If I die" - book came to be.

set during the invis knight arc

I also recommend reading "Can You Find Me?" first to have the context, it's part of the Drag Path Saga

Work Text:

Eggchan wasn't naive. He was more than aware that sooner than later he’d leave the server and never come back.

It didn't matter who would ban him off the server, whether it was a player looking to have all of Wemmbu’s wrath focused on him, or even Wemmbu himself, not paying attention for a moment.

Fact was, Eggchan was vulnerable and his life only protected by the plot armor he had been enchanted to have. And when that ran out, the server had to be prepared for the consequences.

Eggchan had to write a book, a testament, a sort of checklist on what to do once he was dead. Because there were all his books that he had spent many hours on writing and there was his best friend Wemmbu and his friend MinuteTech. It was Wemmbu that concerned Eggchan the most, and therefore he was certain he had to write a book that his friend could never know about.

MinuteTech broke his train of thought for a minute as the guardian of the end came down to where Eggchan was sitting in front of his lectern.

“Hey Egg, how’s the writing going?” MinuteTech asked, walking past his chair to grab some shulkers at the side of the room.

“Very well, thank you. How’s the building coming along?” Eggchan leaned back to watch his current protector.

“Good, I’m finishing up the part around the portal to the overworld. It’s a bunch of redstone, so it’s taking me longer than I planned.” MinuteTech paused for a moment to sort his inventory, before opening a chest located at the wall behind Eggchan.

“I’d offer you my help, but I fear it would be no use.” Eggchan turned his head along with MinuteTech’s movements, as the all seeing eye could rotate his head as many times as he wanted with no issues.

“No, I’m sure you’d be. But I’d rather you stay down here, where I know you’re safe.” MinuteTech pulled his head out of a chest and came over to Eggchan to put a hand on his shoulder. “Besides, you still have to write in that book about the history of the server, no? You still have a lot to document.”

“That is indeed the truth.” Eggchan bobbed his eye in what could be perceived as a nod and turned his attention back to the lantern in front of him.

“I’ll leave you to it then. Text me if you need me, alright?” The guardian pulled some last items out of the chest he had been looking through.

“MinuteTech, what would you do if I were to die?” Eggchan closed the book currently laying on the lectern and observed the shelves full of books lining the wall.

“If you were to die… You mean, if you died under my care and protection? Then I wouldn’t forgive myself. If you were to die under Wemmbu’s care, I’m sure I’d harbor some anger against him, but in the end no one’s invincible. Why are you asking?” MinuteTech stepped closer again and without looking Eggchan knew that there was a concerned look on his face.

“Because I need to prepare for the inevitable. There’s a lot my death could be the cause of and I know it’ll have a butterfly effect on the server. I have to take responsibility and prepare.”

“That’s… that’s noble of you, Eggchan. I shall not interrupt you in your preparations then.” The guardian took a hesitant step back, before equipping his elytra and flying away.

Was it really that noble of him? No, truly not, as he was only doing the bare minimum, to minimize the damage his death could bring. After all, there was the chance that Wemmbu would grow such an anger over Eggchan’s death that he’d destroy the server for good and not just a little like he had before. Naturally, the one who’d kill would suffer the most under Wemmbu’s anger, but Eggchan knew it wouldn’t stop at one person. Hundreds would get banned and even more would lose everything in this worst case scenario.

He pulled an empty book from the shelf and refilled his ink holder with an ink sack. Then he pulled out one of the chicken feathers Wemmbu had brought him not too long ago. With a few, practiced cuts of his sword, the tip of the feather had the perfect shape to hold ink. And after a few practice strokes on a piece of paper, he was sure it would guarantee a clean handwriting.

Now it was time to write.

Dear Reader,
If you’re reading this, I’m very likely dead. If you’re reading this and I am alive, please give this book back to me and/or MinuteTech, as it will hold no information you could need. Thank you for respecting these wishes.

I want to go ahead and preface this by saying that there are multiple possibilities that all depend on how I die, and in the following I shall go over them from the least dangerous to the most dangerous option. Please acknowledge, that even I as the all-seeing Eye of the Unstable SMP might not know everything and I might have overlooked a possible outcome. If that is the case, proceed with caution and protect as many lives as possible and I wish you the best of luck.

Option 1:
Wemmbu killed me on accident.
He will not believe I am dead and search for anything that’ll prove I’m alive. During this period, you shouldn’t stop him, instead let him search until he comes to the realization himself or is starting to damage himself.
People that could have a chance at reaching him when he is in the denial stage are, starting with the most likely player: Flamefrags, MinuteTech, (JadenMAN)
Once he is no longer denying my death, he will become angry, then depressed. It is important that during the first few days of his grief he is not left alone. I fear his anger towards himself might lead to bad decisions.

Option 2:
I die to a mob under Wemmbu’s care.
He will be angry, but more so towards the game itself and will most likely only react aggressively towards players looking to challenge/annoy/command him. Proceed with caution and try reasoning (for legal reasons I want to say I do not recommend this action unless you’re Flamefrags/Clownpierce/MinuteTech/FerreMC/Manepear and therefore able to defend yourself against him).
If he starts directing his anger towards players, read through other options listed below.

Option 3:
I die to a player under Wemmbu’s care.
Evacuate and flee any area he is in. Warn civilisations and prepare for his TNT cannons. No one will be safe while he hunts down the player that killed me.
Do not try to reason with him until he has killed the player AND has stopped his killing spree. If both of those things aren’t true, DO NOT INTERACT OR TRY TO STOP HIM. He will either kill you or himself in the process.

Option 4:
I die under MinuteTech’s protection.
Say goodbye to the end and prepare to see what I have described under Option 3.

Further instructions will be added later in case I am still alive and you’re already reading it anyways.

I truly wish you the best of luck and if my dear friend Wemmbu ever gets to read this, I want you to know that I understand your rage, but do want you to move on and continue living. It would also make me very happy to see someone continue my books about the server after my death so all the stories will be documented and won’t be forgotten.

And now, dear Reader, you have reached the end of the book.
Please be so kind as to forgive Wemmbu his rage, as grieving is a long and hard path to be on. And if you yourself find that you are grieving me too, then I hope you find support from the ones surrounding you, or grieving alongside you.

I shall not live on to see this story to its end, but you will and I dearly hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed playing on this server. I’ve seen enough empires and civilizations rise for multiple lives, and I do not fear death. I know I am immortalized on this server no matter what.

And with that, I wish you an adventurous, prosperous life, and may the stars shine on you for many more nights to come.

Your Eggchan, the blind, all-seeing Eye of the Unstable SMP.

Notes:

I wrote this in under two hours cause it wouldn't leave my brain but I'd love to get some tips on how to write better cause I feel like this is lowkey one of my worst works.

also lmk if I missed any tags!

Thank you for reading!
